So, just so everyone knows, we're not guaranteed the itemization update on the 25th

I think it would be a monumental mistake if they did that.

I personally think they said it to put everyone’s mind at ease.

Benefit of doubt.

that made me giggle.

Slight correction: I am not actually part of said communicating party, having no employment record with Fatshark and no authorization to communicate that kind of information. I just happen to be in a position where I am well-informed enough to know what the announcement post was supposed to convey, regardless of how the English came out.

You’re not crazy for reading it the way you did. It’s why I decided to speak up in the first place. I thought it better than to keep you guys (the ones confused about the meaning) in the dark while Fatshark’s intention was to be more transparent.

I would like to see some demographic breakdowns of the forum to get insight on which parties understood/interpreted this as anything other than “the update may not ship with itemization changes depending on testing results.”

… It feels weird to be @badwin aligned, but here we are.

Obviously there were numbers significant enough that @Hank_jw felt the need to provide clarification

My bad, I got my wires crossed and misremembered what you said in the other thread in the heat of it

all looks good here boss

Polls are a thing iirc. Go start one.

more like guaranteed not guaranteed.

I don’t have any insight into that sort of telemetry, my decisionmaking was entirely vibes-based.

You made a good call. Fatshark is not exactly communicating with the community all that well at the moment, so clarifying this statement allows me to temper my expectations back to what they should be (i.e. middling).

Didn’t catfish say several months ago to hold onto your broken crafted weapons? Am for one still not expecting any meaningful itemization update in June, July or August. So will be surprised if and when it does get implemented.

But they already mentioned it here:

So I wouldn’t expect for it before that dev blog.

the words ‘of the update’ mean that itemization would be part of the update. I really don’t know how people manage to read the exact opposite.

It’s pretty obvious to me that “still working” means “not ready”.

I honestly had no expectations for this to drop in Q2 anyway, and expected for crafting to be updated towards the end of the year…so this is good news from my perspective.

If FS 100% knew and felt confident that itemization would be part of “the update” they would’ve listed it under the bullet list properly.

There is reading things literally and there is a little thing called inference. There are people who can infer things…

By talking about itemization couched in a footnote, I infer it to mean that they they would like itemization included in the update, but it’s still being tested and depending on how things go it might not be ready for the update. They are giving themselves an out.

So yes, one can read their words literally and I can see why one would conclude that itemization is part of the update. But that ignores the context of how the words are being presented and framed, which one can infer a different meaning from.

Bottom line that we can all agree on is that Fatshark is awful at framing what should be very simple and clear communications. I don’t know if they are trying to play clever word games or are just bad at writing. Same result either way - people get frustrated.

All this reading and inferring has hurt muh brains; and I used to read stupid IT docs and lame corporate papers.

So basically a good number of people who’re saying it’s ‘clear they weren’t promising an update’ are just…filtering it through Fatsharkese? Rather than taking the clear meaning of the words as written?

I question if Fatshark’s PR team understands English well if they manage to screw up ‘we might not get the itemization update out with this Machine God update’ to the point of the plain text meaning the exact opposite of what they ‘wanted’ to convey.

That or they’re just lying.

Exactly. Choice of words was extremely unfortunate with what we now know.

Of course, maybe they meant it as a “series of updates”, like thematically together or something. But that too is something I do not read from these sentences.

But… That’s just how the language works. Part of the update means… part of the update.

Those documents are probably clearer on what goes where and why than the updates we get presented by Fatshark on the occasion.
