Hiya Fatshark! Just wanna let you know, crafting is the bigger deal here

Hiya there, buddy. Been a minute since we’ve chatted and I thought I’d just kinda swing by and let you know that if you haven’t yet noticed, by and wide, the new level is nice but every single communication you make between now and when you reveal anything is going to be about crafting.

You can say that any particular piece of communication you have between then and now isn’t about crafting, and I’ll even throw you a bone and believe you if you say you aren’t lying about it! But if you do, you have made a miscalculation as to the importance of the various things you’re updating us on.

Itemization is still, like a bloodied albatross, hanging around the neck of your product. It’s been blatantly unfinished for years, especially after the first time you “finished” it and then the second time you “fixed” it. It’s awful, it’s predatory, it makes your product worse, you don’t need it, please remove it, etc, so on, so forth, you already know all of these things. The new mission and new weapons will be nice when we get to play with them how we want which will take time and effort because our ability to do so is hamstrung by your reliance on RNG. I suspect that’s part of why you’ve been so dead, it’s because you’ve finally determined that there’s a new negative news cycle every time you update the equipment because of how badly you’ve implemented this.

In your devblog, whatever it is you say about itemization and progression - it could be a whole writeup, it could be a few hints, it could be “We’re not discussing crafting in this blog, that’s for next time”, it could be nothing - it’ll be the most important thing you say.

So please. For the love of Mike. For the love of your fans, who want to recommend your game to people. Please, tell us about itemization pretty soon. And understand that when you don’t, it’s as important as when you do.

My money is still on us getting the full trailer at one of the upcoming Game preview shows and us getting a blog at roughly the same time.

I don’t know all of them, the Balkinization of E3 has made keeping track of everything brutal.

Summer Games Fest is this Friday.

PC Game Show is this Sunday I’m pretty sure.

Darktide was featured on both of those shows in 2022 but that was trying to build hype release so idk if they can get on them again.

Haven’t checked when the Microsoft event is, if there is one and that could feature them as well.

thanks, I’ll keep an eye on em
I guess if the update is really big and they figure it might lead to a revival it would probably show up huh

Tossed the thread in the bin

(But yeah I won’t be bothered to try out the new weapons in the existing crafting systems).

I am cursed enough to be giving it a go on one of them.

There’s actually something I can’t understand, where are all these rumours about ‘redesigning the crafting system’ coming from? Yes, it HAS to be done as soon as possible! But hey, it’s the Fat Sharks. This patch will just add a map, a few weapons, cosmetics, and maybe change some specific talents that affect balance again. That’s it. I don’t know what else you guys are waiting for.

I assume its pretty much based on the “we are making an itemisation change” and “hold on to your bricked items” comments (paraphrasing, I cant be bothered finding the exact quotes).

Neither comment explicitly means a crafting update, but they do insinuate it.

Doubtful…but, okaaay…

Just for clarification, which bit are you doubting?

If its laying doubt on the update being the crafting update we all want I fully agree. Insinuation isnt explicit and they seem to have been careful not to explicitly state that its a crafting update (to my knowledge anyway)

Otherwise I am unsure what u mean :innocent:

It’s not a rumor, it’s something they explicitly announced. The only questions now are when and if it will be good.

Mmm, thank you. But I meant this patch! Obviously, sooner or later they will redesign the crafting system, but obviously not in this patch.

The first comment from FS I quoted was in reference to this upcoming patch, saying they intend it to be included in Mysteries of the Machine God but that it might be delayed. We have to wait for the upcoming dev blog to see.

Eloquently put mister Mike, sir.

I couldn’t agree more.

Wait, why would anyone tie an albatross around their necks? Wouldn’t that be quite heavy? They are big birds, plus I doubt the albatross is going to be calm about this, and they have sharp beaks. Its probably mildly dangerous, so I’d recommend not tying an albatross to yourself under any circumstances. Unless maybe its like Skarsnik and Gobbler? Okay I’m getting off the rails here, I’m out.

Just to say, none of that specifically says crafting update. They did say initially way back that they werent going to have such an rng based crafting system… then they did! :expressionless:

Im very hopeful that its a decent crafting update and with them saying “save your bricked items” it really does strongly insinuate that.
Im holding my breath a wee bit but, they have NOT explicitly stated “this is a CRAFTING update”. Theyve called it an itemisation update. Im not even sure what that means tbh.

Im not saying your wrong, because of the insinuation. Im hoping absolutely Im just being overly cautious. I really, really want this to be what the game needs.

tbf he did say “bloodied albatross.” Perhaps they have already defeated one in single combat and are merely parading it around as a trophy?

Itemisation is just everything involving items.

There is no other way to read this than crafting, whatever FS wants to call it they can call it.

Maybe Itemization sounds cooler so they went with that.

Maybe it’s a translation thing.

But if it somehow has nothing to do with crafting, I will still consider it an outright lie even if people say, “but they didn’t say the c word at all!”

Crafting could be taken to mean in a more literal sense, as in combining pieces to craft weapons. (Attachment system and similar). They may simply be avoiding the term crafting so people don’t expect them to deliver the pre-launch crafting system.

We call the current system in the game crafting of course, as most people would, but crafting could also mean something more in-depth, and they probably don’t want people to think the game will have actual crafting.
