That’s actually an interesting point, Commander. I can’t say most of us would make that misunderstanding, considering “crafting” has kind of a specific parlance to it amongst gamingkind, but it only takes a vocal minority to be a real thorn in the sides of FS and their employees.
Also I remember they specifically skirted away from the term crafting, because it wasn’t “lore friendly.” Since the player character doesn’t do the work, they just order it themselves. This was also part of the justification for no attachments, but they might’ve just been trying to cover themselves on that one.
Is it still technically a “crafting” system? Yes. But FS doesn’t like to call it that.
That, but also the fact that they did once upon a time talk about an actual crafting system for the game that never materialized, and gave birth to the “It’s not COD” debacle. Considering they’re so afraid now that they don’t communicate, ever, it’s not a stretch to think that they would make double-sure no one thinks they’re talking about an attachment/actual crafting system.
But yeah, ‘itemization’ could and should include how you get items and how you upgrade those items. Which is basically the system we (and most would) call crafting in the game currently.
Well said.
xbox showcase is sunday as well
not gonna lie, my hopes are that they’re adding weapon crafting and customization in the next update AFTER the bolt pistol and DBshotgun update, i wanna get a bayonet on my gun and i wouldn’t mind switching out my flashlight for a nice flashBANG. think about it, having a stun with a cooldown wouldn’t exactly be bad idea against hoards, could even call it the emperors spark or something.
Calling it itemization instead of crafting, also makes it a broader term in the sense that itemization could include all kinds of other things.
For example:
- any source of equipment (emp gifts and sire melk are not crafting)
- any upgrade/customization system (penances/quests for upgrades/customization would not be crafting)
- modifier/perk/blessing system
It’s a grossly simplified solution to ‘itemisation’, but even something as basic as ‘combine two items, plus a fee of materials, get the best result from each in the output weapon, blessings are player choice’ as crafting would be better than what we have. It’s easy, it’s understandable, and it gets us the weapons we want with some, but vastly reduced, grind. My concern is that might seem “too easy” to some in Fatshark towers, but I’m not sure that’s the worst thing it could be at this point.
Regardless, getting ‘itemisation’ and ‘progression’ through difficulties and character power right has to be the most important discussion happening for them.
I think simply unlocking the 2-change limit to refinements and also allowing to revert/wipe blessings for a fee (similar to the recent personality wipe mechanic) would be a perfectly good bone to throw the dog until they can overhaul. It would, I’m sure, be extremely minimal code and UI work.
Simply unlocking limits would obvs also suffice lol
Bricking a great weapon when you simply want to try some builds out in the meat grinder is really frustrating.
I spunked over 100k plasteel trying to farm all the IV blessings for only 3 weapons and didn’t even get them all. How outrageous is that? Seeing my plasteel at 1k again is pretty painful ngl. And without even having the weapons upgrades I wanted lol fml.
Oh yeah, just #BreakTheLocks works as as stopgap, and shouldn’t haven take this long to realise and them implement. But since they’ve actually talked about revamping itemisation it’s a fun exercise to wonder what they’re wanting to do, why they’re wanting to do it, what they actually could do and what they’ll end up giving us.
If all we get is the new map and weapons, ill probably play a game or two then play Shadow of the Erdtree.
Well, on second thought, i will probably be playing Shadow of the Erdtree instead regardless lol
I mean I have faith they’re capable of something grand, they have the talent. The class rework proves it. But they actually have to allow themselves to do so and to communicate what these changes are.
I feel like their current strategy is to buy time with these pointless fluff posts because they’re hoping, desperately, that whatever illness Catfish has is thoughtful enough to give her a break so she can actually communicate with us after the devlogs drop. There’s no way they’re still changing their intended content so drastically that they can’t just tell us what’s going on.
The class rework guy literally quit and it was the last thing he worked on.
AHAHAHA Did he really?!
Oh yes. He’s gone.
Yes. He was the lead combat guy since Vermintide and the class overhaul was the final thing he worked on before he left. Funny isn’t it?
So basically the guy brought us the best things that the game has to offer.
Aside from the art design.
Exactly. Vermintide 2 & Darktide have two redeeming qualities that put them above many other games: The absolutely insane visceral moment to moment gameplay and great visual fidelity.
I would have added great character interactions and depth to it, but they had to f that up with Darktide as well.
I’d be genuinely shocked if everyone inside Fatshark truly felt that they were unable to communicate with us without Catfish. Sure, they probably have to clear anything said with legal (and likely GW), but just talking to us like a bunch of mostly-grown-ups, even if it’s dry and analytical, (and please no more speaking wholly in emojis) would be appreciated by most of us.
I think they CAN produce something superb, but I’m not sure their design principles (and/or ego, maybe?) will let them. They could just copy a number of features from other games, or revert to very simple crafting and let the game lean more heavily on its better features (art, sound, mission gameplay), but I don’t think they’re willing to do that. I believe they want to keep doing their own thing, which ordinarily wouldn’t be so bad, but I worry that this stubbornness will force them to reach beyond their means and cost them longer-term.
I have no special insight though, so this is just speculation without a lot of research into their social media presence.
I see you’ve found the company motto.
