I don’t have a misunderstanding of RNG, I just don’t think you’re entitled to godroll RNGs. I checked the other thread and the examples that other people posted were usually 2-3 out of 10 items worth using.
I don’t understand why you get hung up on that. Any other RPG or game with gear has the same principle. Plenty of loot but you get the god rolls or the stuff you want only ever so often. Even games like Borderlands and Tiny Tina’s Wonderland are like that and they have enemy “loot explosions” and such. Still tons of items generated, only a handful you end up really desiring.
It’s a simple matter of supply and demand. If you can just generate a 380 weapon and give it all the traits you want in one go, you will outfit all your characters in 2 hours and be done with it.
I know you don’t agree, but handing out the best gear like candy leads to devaluation of said gear. You are done with the game in a handful of hours of playtime and then think to yourself “What am I even playing for?”. This is mostly due to the younger generation being used to progression like gameplay, so games are now made in this manner.
Back in the 90’s and 2000’s there were lots of games without (or very easy) unlockables, but Gaming was different then.
Yes, they’re trying to keep a subset of people with an eternal grind, but I’m willing to bet they’re driving at least as many people away, especially vets of their previous games, by never giving them what they want. That’s an important part of progression/itemisation systems is that you really need to give people what they want sometimes, not give some people what they want sometimes, which is what you’re seeing. People will lose interest in a carrot they never get.
What do you say to those people who have spent hundreds of hours already and didn’t get anything perfect? Get good? With RNG? They’ve already lost a significant chunk of people who would be happy an eternal grind with all the other issues with the game, be it technical or design related, and doubling down on such an RNG laden system only serves to alienate more people than it will keep.
2018 was suuuuuch a different time. (Vermintide 2’s release year)
Funny. I’d bet good money that most people don’t even go that hard into technicalities and just go with whatever the system “gifts” them.
But since we have no official statistics on this it will be just word against word.
In any case, you will have to make piece with the fact that you will probably run a +360 weapon rather than that shiny 380. Or try harder. One of the two.
I will tell you what I’d tell those people. To make peace with it and instead of obsessing over that mythical perfect roll, have fun with the game how it is. Take the next best thing that is not a god roll and make it your own thing.
In Vermintide 1 I had exactly two red items and they came for characters that I hardly ever played with playstyles I didn’t like.
In Vermintide 2 I had my first red item some odd 400 hours in, at a point where most players were already fully kitted out with red gear.
In Darktide I got exactly one 380 base stat weapon and it is an axe on my Zealot and I wanted a dagger.
It is what it is. Namely RNG. And not everyone can be blessed by it. But the more you play, the more you actually get towards better gear.
I don’t play the game for getting gear, i play the game for the for the qualiy of the gameplay. If i could get the items i wanted in a couple of hours i would play this game evry chance i get. Since the game is made with this horrendus RNG system i play a couple of hours at most, get bored of playimg the same character with the same build over and over again and go play a different game. Not gonna buy new classes when they come out because their playtime will not be worth the money spent.
And for the record i don’t give a cr*p about godroll 380, i play with 345-360 i just care about the weapon achiving the desired breakpoints, and having the combination of blessing that i desire.
RNG is not progression. Maybe if they had more systems to actually mitigate RNG that aren’t just more layers of RNG there wouldn’t so negativity about it. More rolls on RNG is not progression, either, especially when there is no pity or bad luck protection baked into the rolls themselves. Also who the kark is advocating for getting all god rolls in 2 hours, that is the most worn out literal strawman that gets paraded out every time anyone wants itemisation to not be crap.
People who are lucky seem to be unable to see why unlucky people hate luck.
i must be enchanted, because every time i try to challenge someone’s assumptions of these systems with observable results (this exact same thing happened with curios) the response is always some variation on “but you don’t know, you could be impossibly lucky”. and that’s true - if i gave you a coin and asked you to flip it a thousand times there is always a possibility that you will get nothing but tails. you can’t disprove this could happen, you can only evaluate based on observation and make reasonable estimates.
as is in a tiny possible time interval i’ve been doing nothing but knocking out bangers so either the system has gotten observably much more permissive (given i had 8 total T4 blessings over all characters i estimated prepatch that there probably would be a handful total number of T4+T4 blessing items in existence, let alone near perfect stats, and i got two in one day) or i’m incredibly fortunate. again these aren’t the only two items i made these are just what i perceive as the rarest.
It’s definitely better, I don’t deny that, but it’s still bad and my main bone to pick with it is that it’s still remarkably RNG to get an upgrade at all and the path to a so-called perfect weapon is still locked behind layers and layers of RNG where any mitigation also has its own layers of RNG. In fact, there’s still no path to a perfect weapon because it’s RNG and it still requires too much luck and too little player agency. Pulling a slot machine lever more times is not player agency. It feels like to me that you are saying to people not as lucky as you to just be as lucky as you.
And this is precisely the reason why this system gets so much criticism. Some lucky few will get the good items the rest stay with the mediocre.
For every lucky guy that got immediately what they wished for there are 100 that invested millions of ordos and thousands of crafting resources ( that translate in hours of playing ) and got nothing in return.
Yeah this crafting system is karking awful. I’m already burnt out after the update. Funny thing is I am an absolute grinding no life that buys cosmetics in games that I like. I’m literally the target for this kinda dogshit addict system… and it’s so bad that even I won’t bite.
This system is so karking bad though so I can’t be bothered spending between 200-2000 hours at random trying to get the weapon with the stuff I want on it. I don’t even want 380lvl items. I just want to TRY different things.
I just want to point out that in VT2 certain property combinations are blacklisted and straight up impossible to get but the game never tells you this. Someone had reported that as a bug and a FS CM had to explain it was intentional. The lack of information and transparency available to players is truly terrible.
At least VT2 has a system to eventually guarantee your desired property combo.
Yeah, I remember the +chaos/+skaven combination for an accessory was announced as a bug and removed from the pool, but they didn’t remove the ones already rolled with that.
Apart from reds or athanor, was there any other system to remove/reduce the RNG for properties? Reds did significantly reduce it by taking variables out of the roll but you could still be rolling for ages to get the two properties you wanted. *Flashbacks to rolling the same unwanted set of properties 5+ times in a row intensifies *
10k Plasteel is what, 20ish games on damnation difficulty? That is actually way faster than getting the average dockets requires to roll a 380 from the armoury, funny enough.
The thing is though, I don’t personally even want 380 items that bad. I just want decent stats along with the 2 blessing combo I want to try out on a weapon(s), but it takes WAY too long and I feel like there isn’t any control or progression, just luck.
I think if Darktide had extremely easy crafting without hardly ANY luck to it, I’d have 200 or 300+ more hours in it. Most of my playtime in Vermintide 2 was spent making and playing different builds I was experimenting with.
I really don’t understand why the base minimun from brunt’s shop seems to be like 280. I have said this in other topics already but i also spent like 2 million dockets (more now, i lost count) and i got around 5 bases that i would consider are worth crafting into (+360 for those wondering).
One of those happened to be the Eviscerator which finally turned into this.
But this required me to buy over 100 eviscerators from the store and even then none of my bases were even close to 380.
Yestarday i bought other set of 20 and finally had one that was 371 but it was significantly worse than the one i got now base stat distribution wise.
This system at the bare minimun needs to stop dropping weapons under 320. It is absolutely insane that i can spend 300hours worth of dockets and barely get few decent bases to craft into.
I still don’t actually have the blessing combination i wan’t so i still need to craft other evisecator and hope for luck.
And even after this, none in the fatshark QA happened to think that maybe pressing and holding X to barter 100 items that are not worth my time might be bit of time consuming?
I still have few to go and i have been deleting these for a while now. The average seems to be sitting at around 335 for what i got in terms of base average.
I mean the crafting system has not changed one bit…
It was RNG, we b*tched about it, and they added a paragraph to the copy pasted crafting devblog regarding the armory…Which is still a RNG fest.
RNG: bad retention tactic if your loot/crafting ain’t good enough.
the nustore is a much bigger change than i expected. you very consistently find at least a 360 in there, had i not rolled a poor blessing and perk (and as such was disinterested in risking it for the biscuit on rolling two more) i might have gotten a decent 379 TH today. can’t really be arsed tho.
