I don’t even know enough about warhammer to know how/why/when/where all the other class wishes could or would fit into the game, but I assumed they’d be more fun than face mcshooty.
As soon as the ganger theories started, I wished upon a star it wasn’t true.
The more we learned about how it was a $12 repackaging of stuff removed or asked for on other classes, the more deflated I became.
Well the Bounty hunter backround is more of a mercenary/hitman who will work for whoever pays not a typical gangster, if you don’t wanna be drug-crazed maniac don’t take the anarchist personality. The outlaw seems to be the “nicest” personality but he/she is definitely a ganger (I mean they all kinda are anyway since you have to choose a cartel but you can headcannon roleplay that away).
I have no idea how someone from their team could decide that constant ranged fire immunity, melee hit immunity on crit, and infinite ammo printer are good for the game, especially outside high Havoc.
i was referring to the different mechanics, only short range kills count for desperado the highlighting , duration , damage and cd all only work from short range kills using it at long range.
where as the vet gets damage weak spot and large reductions to sway and recoil highlighting all targets at all ranges and maintaining its duration for as long as you can get one kill every 5 seconds.
if you cant see the two classes are doing two different things in quite different ways its because your trying not to.
Yeah, OP is right. All of Desperado build is made of suggestions for Veteran changes we’ve asked for. And it came Havoc 40 balanced so… I mean…
I thought I disagreed with his statement about Gunker and Castigator Arbie being better ranged builds but then I remember the only times I try Ex Stance is to see if I’m crazy whenever this forum starts hyping up helbore and vigilant autos and everything else that sucks. And, nah, ex stance is still a single-player skill that I can’t get any fun out of without being miles away from the team.
as someone who plays vet most of the time since closed beta to present no lol. desperado scum is superior. it aint even close. got a good laugh out of that.
So reading through this thread a few thoughts come to mind.
As a bit of a preface to the following comment, I want to say up front I completely sympathise with those who miss the old brauto/auto pistol pre patch 13 Vet gameplay, and I’m inclined to agree that Fatshark sold back a gameplay fantasy they took away from the base game and that is indeed a bit scummy.
I’m not as inclined to agree on much of the details here though.
Firstly addressing comments about survivalist being nerfed for balance reasons then Scum being introduced. I don’t think this actually is hypocritical, with the humongous differentiating factor being that Survivalist fuels the entire team’s ammo supply, while Scum supplies only themself (that one aura aside, I’d imagine we can agree that’s a mostly negligible contributing factor to Scum’s ammo sustain). Now yes they could have changed Survivalist to only affect Vet and buff it accordingly, and I’m sure many here would have preferred that to Scum being released. That’s fair enough, I’m just not going to pretend Scum’s ammo sustain is as fundamentally game breaking as pre nerf survivalist.
Now for this second point, I need to preface this by saying I am not much of a lore guy. I am mostly only familiar with some surface level elements of 40k lore, so very happy to me corrected on this.
Does running around like a crackhead with uzis not just fit thematically much better with Hive Scum than with a Veteran? I dunno, a high utility jack of all trades with a focus on las and precision weaponry seems kind of fitting in concept? Even if you don’t particularly like the execution.
Completely echo the sentiment that FS has kinda forgotten brauto exists. They introduce a new class that has great synergy with it then basically just give it a better version of brauto as a new class weapon.
Also agreed that it is mega lame base game classes don’t get access to any of the new DLC weapons. This was a pretty key part of my enjoyment of the VT2 DLC classes. Really really don’t understand why so many things go backwards with this game for seemingly no reason.
i really hate this argument, every update fatshark makes non-veteran classes less ammo reliant with other means
this is great for veterans of course, they have less competitors to share their ammo with, but it invalidates the old argument on the usefulness of survivalist affecting the ‘‘whole team’’ when veteran is the only class who need to worry about ammo management -.-
you are the only one scavaging for ammo around the map while your team mates just have fun, to the point that if they die its your fault because you joined them too late
is it possible that i’m the only one who feels so miserable playing vet?
99% of my ‘‘for fun’’ games dates before patch 13, all the rest was just keeping up with the latest penances or havoc seasons
with hive scum out i’ve never felt so much willingness to quit darktide for good (also cause i’m getting hooked by rogue trader which is so much more above this game that’s loathsome)
don’t worry about this, Darktide lore is bogus for the most part, what matters to us is how vet was protrayed when it got introduced, hell, they even revoked his sharpshooter status, if that doesn’t even spell that something wrong is going on i don’t know how else can i put it
I think Pickpocket should only proc when you kill an Elite/Specialist IN MELEE. That’d force Ranged Hive Scum into Melee on occasion if they want to keep shooting so much, creating inherently more dynamic Gameplay. Ranged Hive Scum is definitely my preferred Hive Scum playstyle.
One of the main issues with Veteran is that they’re just not… relevant enough? The Enemies they’re supposed to counter just aren’t enough of a priority for Veteran to actually shine. What’s the point of countering Ranged Enemies when everyone can just slide up to all the Ranged Enemies and then bap them to death playfully in Melee, like a cat does to a mouse?
Give Shotgunners and Stalkers the capability to shoot you while you’re sliding, at least while you’re within Close Range of them. They’re Enemies who use CQB-focused Ranged Weapons, after all. Dreg Stalkers use Braced Autoguns, both Dreg and Scab Shotgunners use Combat Shotguns and Scab Stalkers use Lascarbines.
There needs to be a foil to the whole “sliding to avoid Ranged Attacks” thingamajig, and those Enemies are perfect for such a role. That’s one thing that’ll make Veterans a more important addition to a Strike Team off the top of my head, and there could be more where that came from. There isn’t a thing in the universe that goes more wasted than potential, huh?
