As it’s very inconsistent, and doesn’t always happen in high intensity situations I assume it is with the game and not my system.
However that’s not a bad in general suggestion and something I should do, so thank you

Generally with DT the graphic settings are straight forward.
The “worker threads” setting has such varied results between systems. I’ve experimented with worker thread set to 1, middle and max. Seems to make no difference to me in FPS. Setting lower worker thread does seem to make it more selective of physical cores instead. I can tell from using MSI afterburner UI overlay.
It defaults to somewhere in middle setting generally. But I would give it a go by first setting it to number of physical cores first, then 1-2 higher etc.
Alternatively try leaving worker threads as default and alter process affinity by using task manager → Details. i.e Core 0, 2 etc are physical cores accept the e cores, so it’s one. Or just get free version of process lasso to test as it can save affinity setting. Depends on what CPU it is.
I do recommend MSI Afterburner overlay. It can really tell you what is happening i.e. FPS drops and GPU under utilised, is it temperature, is it not boosting, something up with each logical processor not being utilised.etc.
I can always replicate this, whenever I have Frame Generation in the Video Settings turned on, the game will lag when I open/close chat in game. you can spam enters and you will see fps drops to 1 digit.
Frame generation causes lag if you use external FPS limiter like RTSS if you using something external to cap FPS?
In game FPS limiter is better than using external ones like RTSS or AMD/Nvidia driver level
Darktide only allows 60 or 120 FPS cap, but you can edit nv_framerate_cap to preferred in user_settings.config
no RTSS I dont even know what that is.
after looking around it seems someone has reported the bug here:
