Please fix the powercreep (RANT)

Agreed. I adore the Inferno Staff, I really do… but the infinite Cleave needs to go.

Seems like part of the issue obviously is things like infinite cleave go up in value with hyper-density, so less density = less value, so maybe non-issue?

The other point I’d like to bring up re: balance and maybe something resembling a VT2 Cata, if there’s less density and less power creep, some related mechanics and mob and player stats will likely need to be looked at too.

It would need many tweaks at once to not be too easy/too hard and that means more than just mob raw HP vs player dmg, it means attack speeds, defensive skills and abilities, CDRs, staggers and a whole slew of other stuff like looking at things like slide spams and whatnot. There are a lot of moving parts and opportunities to mess things up.

It’s quite tricky, but well worth the investment as many of us think.

The Inferno Staff doesn’t really have much limitation beyond its lack of Range, which is already compensated for with Brain Rupture. I’d have to see infinite Cleave being a non-issue to believe it. Being able to just lazily kite Enemies while spamming them with a torrent of Soulblaze… it’s nuts. I’d drop it like a sack of rotten grain for a Beam Staff, though.

There’s definitely room for “secondary” changes to Enemies and whatnot to spice up Darktide’s gameplay flow. Even new Enemy “variants” could be interesting, like Reapers with Ripper Guns instead of Twin-Linkeds. Again, not as important as fixing Darktide’s Balancing and Enemy spam. But it could be interesting.

I would like to see a new ‘balanced’ realm, like a balance beta. Something players would opt in and out of and gets updated frequently with a little more reckless abandon. If poop breaks we all have a good laugh for the week.

Would also be a good place to test big ideas, and not just number tweaks.

time and effort wise i’d be game.

the biggest question remaining though is if fatshark doesnt listen to their already playtesters in
regard to critque of exactly what we got at hands right now,
what are the chances our layman-input would bear any fruits?

worst scenario would be they get it right in their test realm but scrap it due to being unpopular with the masses.

i couldnt be content anymore seeing true beauty once and getting tossed back into the “ugly-pool” again :grimacing:

my ravenous desire for 40k couldnt take it :open_mouth:

I’ve been playing like this some maelstroms for fun and see what happens, and don’t get me wrong even though I agree with the general sentiment, this feels misleading.
Under normal circumstances the dog will never do better than average players, let alone competent ones.

Your dog is applying bleeds in a game with a scab modifier, so there’s armor everywhere, in a game with only 2 players, AND your teammate doesn’t have bleed.
Of course your numbers will look crazy, if you play inferno psyker you’ll know exactly what I mean.

I enjoy the Enemy Spam. Kinda what makes it a Horde/Tide Game and fun for me but there definitely could be some more challenging non-Boss Enemies (and more challenging Bosses too with more than just 2-3 attack combinations and which can’t be 2-Hit via ThunderHammer or perma stunned) as of now i only find the Twinks depending on situation difficult and beast of nurgle annoying, elites/specials idk none threatening on their own depends on situation here too with what they spawn together way more difficult to deal with a few maulers/crushers when theres also bombers/snipers/gunners constantly targeting you than a gorillion maulers/crushers on their own unless you get sandwiched; difficulty here really depends not on the individual enemy but more in what situation and combination they appear in/with so maybe that could be worked on to make the game more challenging as well.

Yea that’s totally fair, that CIVI game was basically ideal with all the densely packed melee enemies for the dog to chew into and the fact it was only 2 players. If this was a regular mission the dog would likely deal less total damage since ranged enemies are so far and spread apart.

I played a CIVI with another mate playing Ogryn with mk4 knife on console and even though we died the numbers are still insane for a dog-only playstyle.

And FWIW I tried doing a dog-only true solo but the game crashed on me, maybe I’ll try it again later.

What has become of this game, honestly? I wonder that whenever I see post like this:

This is the root of the problem, how all the big cases of powercreep got completely ignored since the talent tree update.

It is true that most of the veteran tree is garbage, but in what world does the shout with a 30 sec cooldown team wide invulnerability, that completely removes the glass from glass cannon classes, something that is now consider normal and not OP? Mind you it also comes with a massive stagger that has no reason to be that strong, and a 15 sec duration with a must have talent of 6 sec flat cooldown on shooting your weapon at basically any target in auric, making the uptime constant.

Gold toughness so easily accessible is not okay and when it’s the only mechanic that holds a class together, then something went very very wrong. Even the OP reworked ogryn or the arbites wish they had such a broken win button for the whole team as is VoC. They are unkillable if you play well, but even they don’t provide the whole team with an immunity shield to everything.

This game needs a full reset, seriously. Stop buffing everything to make havoc playable and stop ignoring the feedback about overpowered things for months and years, and maybe most people won’t normalize this unhinged “balance” that plagues every class without exception.

I want to play old Darktide please.

beginners and returning players are judging everything based on the Arbites. And of course, they’re all shouting that the Veteran should be buffed up to Arbites level…

Actually the only people i keep seeing complaining are those anti-arbites endgame players, which make up the majority of forum users (given that forum users are more likely to be highly invested players than casual ones).
I hardly see new/returning players complaining about other classes.
And just to be clear, saying that the veteran needs a rework is not a complaint, it’s just a fact. Being a “ranged specialist” in a game that overwels you with melee mobs isn’t really viable past heresy difficulty.

I hardly see people complaining about anything in game because they don’t talk at all.
but surely that would mean they agree with my opinion /s

Havoc maybe but not heresy lol.
And even then there are people who can make it work there.

People are just bad at shooting stuff while under melee pressure and keep getting their head bashed in because of tunnel vision.

Vet do need a rework though.

This is the curse of the veteran. How do you buff a class with legitimate issues when it has strengths like this?

If you try to redistribute that power it means some nerfs with the buffs and the review bombing campaign would be legendary.

Edit: and it really doesn’t help when some veterans start threads about how the game would be better if they didn’t need to dodge or pickup ammo or w/e

There has been some focus on Arbites. But it’s all the things put together.

  • Stealth zealot
  • DS
  • Knife heavy move allowing infinite stamina run
  • Rumbler AOE spam
  • No mechanics to counter on lack of ammo/meds sharing, the melee classes speed run to resources, leading to Vets wanting regen ammo.
  • For Quickplay, not enough obstacles to encourage synergy or waiting for team effort, even in Maelstrom

You could look past the same old maps and wish there was more. Now same melee class, same weapons feeling more repetition game to game.

Not days, weeks but it takes months for balance to be looked into or happen, or never at all with little communication. I’ve set my expectations low long time ago. I’ll still play Darktide, but occasionally.

It won’t end there, potential additional DLC class could widen the balance issue more, each time.

You’ll always find someone doing something. It’s the proverbial exception that proves the rule.

Im talking about the forums/reddit.
For every 5 rants about the arbites there is 1 about any other class.

Because he’s the embodiment of insanely forgiving auto pilot gameplay, while the other classes only have a few OP outliers here and there.

Not gonna say I told you so. Cuz if you’re not slow, I don’t have to.

inb4 “this thread is too long, I can’t be expected to read it all” as they continue to meticulously dissect every other comment favoring balance nerfs.

This is a huge issue. Tons of Darktide’s difficulty at higher levels comes from “Surprise here’s a clump of X enemies!”. Instead of having enemies come in from multiple directions and avenues, everything just comes together in a perfect grouping for cleave and AoE abilities.
