Please fix the powercreep (RANT)

Or we’d be mulching Chaos Space Marines…depends on the day of the week!

Speaking of Scab Shooters… is Fatshark EVER going to fix their incorrect Bayonet placement? It’s been in the game since release, and I think that fixing it would be a cool way for Fatshark to accompany buffing Scab Shooters. @FatsharkJulia this is a mistake, right?

I can’t stand this mentality. You see it in every PvE game (and I literally had a discussion with my friend about it in Vermintide 2) where people say “it’s PvE, balance doesn’t matter, let us have fun and nerfs aren’t fun”.

My friend mainly plays Elf and loves the dual swords (“lawn mower mode” he calls it), but he was moaning about the Javelin nerfs because he kept getting his snipes blocked by regular enemies (since it no longer has infinite pierce) and said the line “it’s PvE, nerfs don’t matter just buff everything else.” I told him that nerfs do matter because if the elven spear did 1 million damage with infinite cleave and range the size a school bus then why would you ever use the dual swords you find more fun?" He said “because I don’t have fun with the spear, so I’d use dual swords anyway”, I said “ok. Now what if Kruber’s Halberd did 1 million damage, had infinite cleave, and range the size of a school bus?”, he said “I don’t play Kruber, why does that matter?”. I said “I do, and if I used the Halberd you literally would just be following me around as I cleared the screen in a single swing.” He didn’t have a comeback, so I continued, “That wouldn’t be very fun for you. But nerfs are a no-go. So Fatshark would buff the enemies HP so they don’t die in 1 swing from my halberd anymore. But now they have millions of HP and you’re doing under 100 at best. So everything is a health sponge and the only effective weapon for you is the Spear since it also does millions of damage.” He said “couldn’t they just buff the other weapons too?”, “sure,” i said, “but now everything is dealing millions of damage to enemies with millions of hp in a game where damage numbers aren’t even shown. So why do all that when you could have just nerfed the halberd and spear down to where everything else is?”

The biggest problem with the “all buffs no nerfs” thing is that often there is the nerfs will remove game play options, or just make them feel worse, but not add any new ones.

So instead of putting all your nerfs in one patch, and buffs in a different patch, you stick them together, and make sure the buffs are actually relevant (adding a small dmg buff to the wet noodle that is the devils claw, won’t make most people excited)

A lot of the old nerf patches where people got really upset (same thing happened in helldivers 2) were ones where the meta was nerfed, but there were basically no buffs of significance if any at all.

So when you go to nerf the DS4 (which needs it) find 1-2 weapons that under perform to give some love to (like chain weapons) or when you nerf shout yellow toughness on vet, buff exe stance, and make Infiltrate not a total waste of talent points.

TL;DR a better balance philosophy can prevent the NO NERF ONLY BUFF mentality, while still making the player base happy.

Heretic!

I think that bayonet is attached properly.

IRL bayonets loop around the barrel with a ring and lock into the lug. But that barrel is the size of a soda can, so the ring would need to be massive. It looks like they compensated by adding that smaller cylinder (marked as a lug in your image) for the bayonet to loop around before locking into the lug with the hilt.

I’m not a gun enthusiast though, so take this with a hefty grain of salt

I think the bigger concern is the Scabs welding their bayonets to their fingers. Because his hand is definitely going through the bayonet hilt from what I can tell

That’s absolutely what I want. I want to go back to when gunners and shooters/stalkers could shut down a push, when enemy numbers (except for hordes) were small, and when a Crusher or two showing up was enough to make the team pause for a sec.

Hot take: sliding in Darktide is ridiculous. Watching a fridge-sized Ogryn glide across the floor like he’s late for dodgeball isn’t badass, it’s silly. It feels like a playground argument: “I shot you!” , “Nuh Uh! I was sliding, you can’t hit me!” Oh sure, pal. Flopping around like a beached whale turns you into Neo now.

This was what the spawns were 2.5 years ago.

Before Auric existed, T5 Regular ranged spam was up to the point a Plasma Vet would be dropping 100 ranged elites and sniper modifiers was 10-15 possible in one area. As the ranged spam was that much, there were loads of Plasma Vets players. Again this was just T5 regular. People would actually wait for the Vet and he got to shine with target to target aim snapping at heads.

It got to the point there were so many threads about ranged spam they reduced ranged enemies, reduced horde and now upped armour packs to high levels.

It was the time when old Ogryns used Butcher 3 knife and Ripper 2 can opener blessing and that was enough due to hardly any crushers.

Back then Plasma was the anti-crusher. Well still is in small packs, now replaced with multi anti-crusher melee.

Now a zealot with heavy bolter can one shot snipe just as well as a plasma vet. The lean towards armour packs has funnelled into weapons against such as preference.

Setting the bar for balance at the strongest weapons in the game is also completely arbitrary and subject to change, they need to decide an appropriate power level to bring all weapons towards that isn’t just “make everything the strongest” or we’ll never have a stable ground for further balance changes

True. It’s nothing but inflated ego that drives their motives.

Want challenge? What to show your skill? Bring gray weapons. Use less talents points. Complete havoc with lvl 1 char how one dude have done.

Nerfing weapons to the ffectiveness of the wet noodle because it outperforms other by 0.1% if ridiculus, unhealthy and kills the fun in the game. Non-competitive game.

Congrats, that’s not what people want!

This is exactly what most of nerf-moaners want. I’ve seen such circlejerks enough times. Once everything you moan about is nerfed, you’ll find another weapon that sligthly outperforms others(Or performs just fine, but not nerfed to hell), and will moan about it now.

The fact that blind shooter hit the target(Arby this time) doesn’t mean that this shooter it good, since it was consistently missing with plasma, power sword, early flamers, and so on

That’s the issue. You wasted your time and seek validation. And people being able to perform good enough are invalidating your sacrifices. It hurts you. You don’t want it.

Solved.

Yeah, but you kinda forget that Vermintide is much more friendly towards player solo-carrying the game, unlike darktide.

Tbh not sure how they implemented bulwarks(I abandoned VT2 long time ago) but it DT bulwark are literally worst enemy in the game. It they are the same in VT - it’s not a great addiciton.

Tanner, who was literally same elitist and who have completed first in the world havoc 40 or something called coherency and it’s buff worst and useless mechanic.

So what’s the point of sticking with the team if papa-sweatlord said it’s pointless?

Another person that’s jealous they weren’t invited to play soggy biscuit

While I don’t think it’s fair to categorize the entire Nerf ClubTM on this forum into the “Toxic Elitist Egotists” category, there are definitely some outliers.

Constantly brushing off exaggerated narratives with “it’s just sarcasm lol” doesn’t hold up when every other post is parroting the same take with increasingly absurd replies. At some point, sarcasm and absurdity get taken at face value whether people mean to or not. Any nuance in the argument gets buried.

I genuinely believe there are folks who think slight nerfs (not sledgehammer ones) are reasonable and even necessary. That’s totally valid.

But then they keep orbiting around the same anti-fun brigade. The ones who seem more interested in gatekeeping the game so only their discord group ever plays it and no one else and people that just want to be on “the right opinion” that usually follow in these echochambers.

Any opposing view that starts to gain traction? It’s immediately met with gaslighting and or suppression.

If the issue really is the meta being dictated by wether and how fast X weapon/class/ability can handle crusher blobs, why aren’t we starting there? If the rallying cry is “make Darktide great again,” shouldn’t nerfing the actual problem be the first step? But no. Let’s target popular stuff instead and make the game miserable for half the player base. That’ll totally fix everything, right?
