Wouldn’t that be a hoot? All the kicking and screaming on one side and the smug pretentiousness on the other, and it turns out that it’s all a chaos plot and that true female custodes aren’t really a thing?
Would GW have the stones to pull off such a stunt?

Man… I didn’t even know that there was this big of a reaction to it. I heard it and was like “Damn, we got women with chiselled abs in golden armour too?”

When making all three, the first one that’s standing up right (young adult one) is one that I made, the other two (Mature, and Mature with Belly) are based on Female Ogre miniatures from Blooebowl.
If those female ogres are fast enough to play sports with those big bellies, I don’t see why a female Ogryns can’t charge into battle as well lol XD

Lore reason was super weak. It is not like with geneseed, where it is inherited via Y chromosome. There was just one passage, something akin to “selected from fines Terra’s noble sons”. Given how much changed custodes are druing their creation, there is no real advantage to get boys, and no girls.
We shouldn’t be suprised by that really, Imperium is fully egalitarian on gender. You have women in Guard, as Inquisitors, Cardinals, High Lords of Terra, Rogue Traders, and all other positions of power.
In not so small scheme of things, this isn’t even biggest retcon to custodes. 15 years ago, they were bound to Imperial Palace, staying there and doing nothinf of interest. Now they from time to time go out, joining forces with other groups in Imperium in battle againt enemies of mankind.
I see no reason why. We allready have two gendered factions, no need for any more of that. Especially that those two are great and popular enough.
Such gatekeeping has no-girls-allowed-in-my-pillow-castle vibe, being pointles and childish.

Nobody complains about women in power.
Those examples have been there for a long time and they make sense.
However, elite soldiers/bodyguards are not just a position of power, but a position where your physical power matters.
The custodes are the best of the best. Even when it comes to the top 1% regarding physical performance (and the custodes are far better than the top 1%), there will be 100% men in that bracket.
Egalitarianism does not mean equal representation everywhere.

Nobody has an issue with women enjoying warhammer.
Nobody has an issue with “women in positions of power”.
The issue is with people shoehorning women into positions (that often make no sense) by rewriting established stories in order to fit some political agenda.
Having this situation and claiming that “people just want to gatekeep women out of their pillow castle”… That is pointless and childish.
If you actually think that, then those who made the change, are playing you like a fiddle.

I think that Custodes, which unlike SM aren’t “Mass Produced” and rather “custom made” having both gender really does not change the lore at all.
And 40k has no established lore, everything can and sometime does, get retconned if they want it too.

Agreed. Female Custodes existing just… doesn’t really bother me at all? Like it doesn’t irk me because, as you said, the Custodes aren’t “mass-produced” like the Astartes are.

now here’s the thing, though i’m relatively new to warhammer as a franchise i so far enjoyed the theme,vibe,lore for what it is brutal gritty dark beautiful.
i take my time getting familiar via audiobooks and until now the world felt cohesive, immersive and relateable.
that’s something i need to really get into a franchise to make it feel “at home”.
female guard soldiers, sure, fodder is fodder and as long as it keeps the enemy occupied throw them into the meatgrinder.
Sororitas, great faction, absolutely in tone with the universe and having to deal with their own flaws.
up and up goes the ladder until i reach the level of nietzsches “übermensch” and in a freaking power armor no less, splendid.
but all through this i could physically relate to the entities in question.
and i don’t feel an urge to see “me” represented there at all to enjoy the whole atmosphere.
lets be real, any luck i’d make it into the guards and enjoy a brief massacre before the emperor calls me to his side.
and thats perfectly fine for me.
when i wanted to feel good, i didnt call for the mr.olympia to show naturals, i hit the gym, took some stuff and beefed up as much as my body and wallet would allow.
had a good time, some tendons and joints busted, but i dont regret one rep.
now for the reason female custodes dont make any sense to add to the roster, just as juicing in the gym goes, estrogen is far harder to overcome when it comes to build muscle, so the effort that has to be put into versus the result (markus rühl vs female bodybuilder of your choice) would still be inferior.
so why bother?
this cost/reward thing is what rubs me the wrong way when so far the very warhammer universe followed “our real life physics” of men and women.
they just magically get equalized and “poof” theres your quota woman for the ratio.
and thus i personally ignore any of that part of the custodes and call my lore complete and my immersion intact

You must understand, custodes are super duper modified, way more then SM. Difference between custodes and men, is way way way bigger then between men and women. It matters so little if subject before could benchpress 150kg or 350kg. They get like 99.9999999% of power from this transformation, not from being born certain gender.
What is more important, is mind part of the wouldbe custodes. On that part, I don’t think there is much of inherit advantage of being male then female.
This lore change rewrite basically nothing. No story is changed because of female custodes. No other lore is changed becasue of female custodes.
I can’t recall anything like “And then custodes saved the day, due to every single of them having penises. Thanks to that 100% penisfullness, wh40k universe still exist.”
The only place that is different, is one sentence in sone random codex, and it is changing word from “sons” to “scions” or “childs”. Hardly a loss for a world.
Please go ahead, and give concrete examples of lore being ruined by this cosmetic change.
Custodes are not made in the gym. They are pumped up with shittons of different hormons, stimulants and other stuff. You really think, that adding 500mg of one hormon instead of 450mg would be a dealbreaker?
They are being heightened by at least 1m, and made twice as broad. Giving slightly more testosterone is nothing of any challenge.
What. Are we even playing same Darktide game? Regardles of gender, age, or how well are you build, you can swing a hammer with force of speed up truck.
Wh40k is notorious of how bonker it can be, real life physic is merely a suggestion.

You might as well say that harry potter is now a woman. Actually always has been.
And it would not be an issue by the same “logic”, since him being a boy is never actually relevant because it says nowhere, that his penis was involved in solving any issue.
But this change would be just as stupid and just as obviously motivated by a certain agenda.
Pretty much this. Even with arguments such as “well it doesn’t really impact the story”, we all know that it’s a slippery slope from there.
