Honestly I dont like the idea of explicitly Christmas themed events and stuff in Darktide, and by extension other holidays too.
One of the games strongest points for me is the atmosphere and thematics so Santa outfits or wrapping paper weapon skins would feel cheap and grating, and thats before you have the people asking for christmas decorations in the Mourningstar and snow in all the maps.
I guess they could throw some aquilas at people or something but that feels cheap in its own way.
Dunno where they lied here⌠was there some post like âThere will be a christmas event right after release.â or something i´ve missed?
The little text on OP´s screenshot should be clear⌠FS is able to go for twitch drops or gifts, but it doesn´t mean they throw them out each day. And instead of some premium cosmetics for e.g. some sort of ingame or artchallenge etc. they could give us Aquilas, so we can buy whatever skin we want.
Dunno how poeple turn this 2 sentences into liesâŚ
Also we already had twitch drops at release. And that they have other priorities right now should be clear.
They didnât do that in VT2, just cool frames. Luckily they made the Wolf father frame obtainable again which is possibly the best frame overall, definitely the best animated one.
Fair enough they didnât have time to render some cosmetics or frames, but they could have easily put up a celebratory message and doubled XP and docket rates. Would have taken a few minutes.
Yeah those Twitch rewards, purple striped weapons seem like a fit. Sadly now it feels appropriate with the clown pants and leopard spandex. The lack of a holiday event imo should be a given pass considering release date and the issues FS is facing with this stellar launch. A holiday themed FREE frame from the MTX shop might have been a decent opportunity to garner some positive feedback. Although, I digress this is just another reason DT should have been delayed until after the holidayâs with the Imperial Beta testers (pre-orders) sorting out issues.
So do you want to blame execs who werenât willing to delay a second month or the developers who failed to wrap things up for the deadlines?
I dont care about fault because fault doesnât change the reality of the situation, I rather the work goes into actually fixing real problems rather than fishing for seasonal niceties.
I mean sure but Double XP and dockets doesnât mean much when complaints right now are about how people feel like the XP and dockets they earn right now are piling up worth nothing.
They arenât exactly going to toss out 700 free Aquilas for a seasonal but anything less and people would complain that theyâre also worthless since they donât have enough to buy something decent, thatâs the core of the whole âno 100 packâ drama.
They wouldâve gotten angry forum posts like this calling them cheap either way, and I still think focusing on fixing actual issues is a more valuable gift to make people happy right now.
iirc they said that they have an update being withheld until they have all hands on deck for delivery, apparently they do have people in doing development but small things while most are still on holiday.
A small materialistic apology would make some people happy sure, but thatâs kind of a separate thing from a Christmas thing no? And ill be honest judging from some of their ETAs on what sounded like simple things I donât have enough confidence in the streamlining of their code/pipeline to deliver anything in a single working day lol
Ill agree that a small thing wouldâve been a small nice gesture, but I wouldnât have exactly been excited for it, its all a bit moot to argue about when the opportunityâs already passed.
With the model they have, they could have literally done what all the other live service games do.
A skin
Extra XP
Extra Gold
Extra ANY OF THE PILE OF CURRENCIES WE HAVE.
Heck, could have been a desktop theme or phone background. ANYTHING.
I mean. There MIGHT be some news coming up. MIGHT. In the pipes.
Lets not forget that the last round when they raised their capital in 2021 and Tencent became major shareholders came DIRECTLY from the founderâs shares. All 10M$ of it. There is 5 of em, so thats a cool 2M each directly in their pocket (which means it didnt go to Fatshark as an investment most likely). The initial private equity sale in 2018 was only for 36% and the founders kept majority. It was only at the end of 2020 / early 2021 did they sale the last 15% for Tencent to be major holder.
There is no heart and soul left at Fatshark. And it shows. Looks up any of the founders social media or the way Fatshark has handled itself in the past 2 years. Actually, a few months before the initial investment by Tencent in 2019, Fatshark acquired A Sweet Studio in October 2018 to keep working on VT2. The founder of A sweet studio then worked for Fatshark and left at the end of 2019 to found a new gaming company.
Heck, their recruitment websites (careers) still mentions Darktide as an UPCOMING game.
They dont even have their house in order. Its leaking everywhere. All it takes is a little bit of looking around (which I should have done before buying the game). My personal tin foil theory is they are trying to sell the last 49%.
