Given the 'rewards' of the skulls 'event': How out of touch are the devs?

Honest question.

The entire ‘event’ rewards you:
3500 plasteel
1300 diamantene
220k dockets

Leaving out the dockets that’s basically just 3-5 damnation runs.

You’ll probably have to run 3-4 times the amount to complete the ‘event’. Which means you get 3-4 times the rewards before even completing the actual thing.

Is this a joke? Do you guys actually play your own game and interact with its systems apart from a quick playtesting session as you code?

Additional math from reddit confirming my rough estimates:

it’s fine, it’s just part of the event, which is just to grab attention for warhammer stuff. we’re getting more about the event when GW has their “look at our garbage” stream later.

I had a theory around release and I think it still holds true that the devs did not spend a significant amount of time actually interacting with the crafting, progression or resource system in a meaningful way.

I heavily believe that if they are playing to test things out they are playing on mostly maxed accounts where resources aren’t a problem and they are disconnected from what the average player has or does.

For comparison looking at a game like DRG they literally just have a weekly repeatable mission that you can just do for extra resources.

Honestly this event overall just felt so fumbled. I’m not holding out hope that they kills announcement won’t just be a nothing burger.

I have to agree. Whenever we’ve seen a dev stream it’s with an absurd quantity of resources they’ve clearly just handed their accounts.

Darktide: “Hey, so the sum total of Q1 and Q2 content development for 2024 is one variant Specialist enemy, a rejiggered Pennance interface with some new outsourced cosmetics, and we’re introducing weeklong event that gives you crafting materials you stopped caring about months ago because the crafting system is garbage”

Helldivers 2: “Hey, we only launched in Feb, but we’ve dropped dozens of new enemies and weapons since then, and we’re asking you to help retake a planet to introduce a new Mech suit for you to play with this week!”

The front doors of these studios are literally like a 20 minute walk from each other, but only one studio seems to be getting the memo, and it’s the one pulling in literally an order of magnitude more players than their competition.

Literally Helldivers 2 just dropped an event for a new mech and we got a generic “kill X enemies for crafting mats” and a 30 second trailer of a map fly through with voice over and no gameplay.

I would not be surprised if they weren’t trying to quietly shelve the game and move on at this point.

I’m second hand embarrassed for the talented people working on this dumpster fire of a project.

Let’s assume that Darktide has a PR person.
And let’s assume that this person actually has some say in regard to what is being done.

I am now convinced, that i could do a better job (without any previous experience), by working 5 minutes a day.

I’m sure it’s all Nurgle’s doing. Nurgle’s rot, has to be!

Darktide has a credited Public Relations Manager.

The only thing related to Darktide I can find anywhere on the internet they were involved in was posting a picture of a physical X-box copy they found at a store to their instagram account.

Managing the public perception of Darktide doesn’t appear to actually be something their job entails.

Man I wish I’d have waited for the ‘oops we’re not done with a crafting update but here is one map and a few datamined weapons we forgot to add since release’ video to drop.

I could have written something much funnier. Shame.

They seem to be oblivious to the detrimental UX a lot of their supporting systems have because they don’t need to engage with it.

Crafting: infinite materials, the ability to generate the exact statline, blessings and perks combinations for testing, bypassing both resource cost and timers.

Missions: They can load up whatever map they want with the desired condition or difficulty.

If they had to craft as we do or wait for the correct combination of mission/condition/difficulty to test them, I bet there would be changes real quick.

With a release called “Secrets of the Machine God” I will have to say don’t count your chickens before they hatch. Don’t get hyped, but don’t get anti-hyped either.

I don’t think there would be changes, because I imagine those systems were designed with player retention in mind, to elongate the time it takes before an average player thinks he “completed” the game or rather, the current content drop.

Like, i can’t imagine a team of programmers sat down with a game director and were like - the absolute best crafting system for our game would involve heavy RNG, because how else can we keep people entertained for long.

So basically where everyone is at now, hurry up and wait?

Look my expectations were LOW for this and they still managed to somehow limbo under it.

You are telling me they couldn’t even be bothered to or didn’t have enough done to throw a quick gameplay trailer together, really?

I just have to keep asking, what are they actually doing over there? Sure you can kind of excuse not being ready during the first skulls event but they have had basically a year to go “hey, lets make sure we have something to show for the next one!” and spent more time talking about a Darktide board game than any upcoming content.

Whoever is in charge of either scheduling or PR needs to be shifted out because they are doing a terrible job.

Well, I imagine they didnt want to do a repeat of pre-launch where there’s features they had planned that didn’t get released.

We cant have our cake and eat it too.

Still would’ve been a bit nice to see a Vet blasting dudes with a bolt pistol while Disposal Unit plays instead of just a couple of static shots of the new map, even if it looks cool.

We also have to keep in mind that June 25 will be just before the entire studio closes for 8 weeks. So any bugs coming in then, are staying. If the crafting isn’t done, it’s not coming until xmas earliest.

This is such a nothingburger of an ‘event’ and announcement.

That mentality is exactly why the game is the way it is lol. God forbid the multi-million dollar Tencent backed company couldn’t release just a smidgeon of content in their trailer video. Oh no they could never!
