Mods and how Fatshark should handle them, in your opinion

Yeah fair point. I see what you’re saying.

Also yeah I mean, if the players are calling for features like that, I can’t argue that concessions should be made. The ability to customize your cosmetics with the mod is clearly something they didn’t intend at present, but the features were at least partially there for the modders to work with. Same with the weapon attachments like you said. I can’t disagree with your logic.

call it “macabre interest” but what in my last post was flag-worthy ? :man_shrugging:

Just from your little anecdote I can concluded now that you got some serious issue with weighting the correct response or reaction to a very harmless interaction.

Thanks for the inside.

Why don’t you just “restrict” yourself from dumping your problems onto others?

Don’t like mods?
Fine.
Don’t use them,
but that doesn’t make it okay to be antiscocial to others
or even calling for others fun to be curbed, just because YOU got an issue.

The real issue for me is trust.

I will not download a program (such as a mod) from a random website and run it on my computer. You know, computer security 101.

However, if Fatshark were to host mods and did their due diligence in verifying they are not malicious, then I would consider using them. Otherwise, no way.

But I’m perfectly happy if other people run as many mods as they like. I don’t care if they get infected by ransomware or crypto miners. Their problem, not mine.

Not sure if it’ll help you in the trust department, but you are able to open and view or edit Darktide mods by yourself very easily. Almost all mods are just lua code. I use either Notepad++ or Visual Studio Code, there’s probably plenty other programs you can use for this as well.

Nexusmods is not a random website. All files are scanned for viruses and it’s against the website’s guidelines to upload malware. You can even directly communicate with mod authors in the modding discord if you have any issues.

knock on wood, nexusmods never let me down so far.

besides, i don´t download small mods on my main pc if in doubt. got my "peenemünde"laptop for that, run a malware check and put it on my external ssd.

small detour, huge gain in security.

top options going to win by a landlside your asking a very specific sub 1% of the games players

Interesting. I did not know mods were written in LUA. Poor choice of programming language, but at least it’s not Javascript, Microsoft C# nor Java.

Also, I would never use Microsoft Windows, nor any Microsoft software if I can avoid it. That includes Microsoft Visual Studio Code.

As for Notepad++, this is a Microsoft Windows binary, and they have an history of distributing malware (see the scilexer.dll incident), so no thanks. My text editor of choice is Sublime, or vim if it’s not available.

Good to know that they scan for viruses, but that’s not the same as reviewing the code. You can get a ton of **** past a virus scanner, especially in interpreted languages like LUA.

Still better than nothing.

The whole game is in LUA

Insane, why do you use the Internet though if you are afraid of malware?

now wether to use mods or not is solely to your discretion, nexusmods in the grand scheme of things is legit.

as far as sources go, they are on the “safer side”.

you can scratch your kink in fallout nv/4 for example with adult mods, so searching on “loverslab” and other sites might come at additional risk.

but as far as darktide mods go, i wager there isn´t even a large enoug playerbase to justify the effort of malware.

Being afraid of malware is rational. And so is taking precaution. As for myself, I’m reasonably secure by virtue of the software I choose to use.

Get a rolling-release Linux distribution like Arch. Keep your kernel and Firefox up-to-date daily to the latest version and you too can enjoy peace of mind.

That is a very good point.

Tbh sounds more like an irrational fear of flying on the plane because they can fall.

Thats not the case.

If other people using mods, are given additional information about your playtime than they otherwise would, and are able to use that information to then harass you for 15-20 minutes in a match, then its an issue.

You don’t need that kind of information to play. I really don’t appreciate the whole “get thicker skin” approach here. Thought we’d all gotten passed that point in modern times.

Oh just ignore the bully right? Great. I’m leaving the thread now. You’re all very clearly biased towards mods. And thankfully, I don’t care. Bye.

The only reply I can give you:

Give up Coop if you can’t handle it and return to Single Player.

You can’t control all of humanities behavior and neither should anyone try.

Your “bully” was just asking you a friendly question.
I don’t want to get personal, but your view on others behavior is quit particular.
Ever considered reflection?

EDIT: Also, yeah. Run away when confronted. Very healthy behavior…

If you are afraid of maleware, data hacks and such:

NEVER, EVER USE A SMARTPHONE… EVER!

Seriously, you a quite save on PCs, compared to other devices, billions(!) of people use each day.

Bud, you’re reading waaay too hard. I like my privacy, I’m an old gamer. I’ve played with kids back in CoD MW, I’ve suffered through decades of co-op. Sometimes its gold, sometimes its infuriating. Tis the way of it.

But heres the thing. Mods are the issue here, not all just a couple. You don’t need to see how much damage your allies are doing, yet mods can give you that information. You don’t need to see my level (or god forbid, my playtime) to play this game. I could choose to share that with you, if we’re getting along in a match together right?

Its a matter of opt in/opt out. Mods enabled or disabled. Quite frankly as well, its not so much running away here, just tired of this old discussion. This was just a survey, I didn’t really wanna get caught in a big ol debate again. Julia is a hero, and I don’t want to be the instigator of another big argument she has to clean up

Just to be clear here, some mods are actually awesome. The one that lets you see which modes and missions are most popular that was made by a forum regular= cool and I never even knew that was possible! The cometics mashup mod is seriously cool too, and the attachments mod. Even cooldown mods and UI stuff, its all player sided and never bothers me at all, in fact I think its great people can do it.
