I unironically get them mixed up now because they both share a “void” in the name.

(I can at least somewhat get some of the other name changes for consistency-ish in the long run but the staff name changes are baffling)
They shouldve called it “Warpblast” or something. This way they both share some theming with the name but its more clear when youre glancing over things.

(I use a mod that reverted the names… like that, I am not annoyed by them)
More than likely it was to avoid mixing up Surge blessing with Surge staff but it is a bit odd that Trauma, Purgatus and Voidstrike were changed.
The baffling ones are where they just swapped numbers around to confuse you (any Lasgun). The autoguns were a sick joke too, isn’t Columnus Vraks now and the Graia Columnus? Someone needs to get an ogryn slap for this.
Heresy! A columnus will always be a columnus… and a graia a graia… and the agri, the agri…
The best part? They didn’t update the descriptions on the inspect menu. Which throws off the theory that there were lore reasons behind this. They must’ve thought they were doing anyone a service by renaming them
More confusion is better. Bolt pistol should be renamed void pistol and pickaxe should be voidaxe. I hate it when games make sense

Yeah nothing about the name change game makes no sense to me, but swapping names like that when Columnus had a rep for being as strong as it is? That was like setting ppl up to use the wrong weapon on purpose.
I really have to get the mod that reverts the names too. Tired of having to swap between variants to see which was which all the time.
Clearly it was to completely bamboozle returning players like me. There are TWO void staves now?! What happened to all the guns I used to know… (yes yes I’ve been back 3d and figured it out but man, there was some head scratching)

Fatshark did a whole bunch of nonsensical renaming of weapons, and nobody has seen fit to explain why.
Just a reminder that this title has, above and beyond Community Managers and Dev’s like Strawhat, 6 or 7 different people with credited leadership roles in Marketing and Public Relations, and not one of them could be bothered with speaking to any of these issues.
The official reason was to align the display names to the variable names in the code base, which was probably easier than changing the variable names to match the display names in the code due to the amount of spaghetti they would have had to dig through.

Cause, you can name things like you want, and put any translation at the end. So not a code problem.
You can search and replace in all the texts of the lua files… Again, not a big deal.
So, I think this is just an excuse…
And now, they have also to decode what the users say…
Perso, I will always point the columnus by this name. Especially, cause i have no intention to use the new names (anyways I don’t know them,)
So now, they introduced a mess on forums, tutorials, reddit etc.
A gap between old players and the new players.
Reverting is still possible…
But when you see that there are bugs on talents and blessings that can be fixed in the lua code without a big work… And that they are not fixing it… I understand that it is not easy to search and replace all the code reference of a weapon.
Better to change the weapon names for all players…
I’m not saying it’s a good idea and it’s almost certainly an excuse, but it was their explanation. Also, I wouldn’t trust find and replace in such a large code base when they already have so much trouble with version control, and I’m pretty sure mismatching variable and display names are a reason why text string errors crop up so often.
