Why were weapons renamed, exactly?

I really don’t understand this explanation. What function is the name “Rashad Mk III Combat Axe” performing that “Rashad MK II Combat Axe” wasn’t? Is there some overlying logic to the new names I don’t understand?

In their quest to lower player confusion they totally dumped their previous nomenclature for no quantifiable reason. Maybe the amount of ‘…why?’ feedback will prompt a swift reversal. Besides more things becoming Vraks forge world make its a total wash.

Ye, I also do not understand why they even changed Marks on some weapons

no clue why but could it be, that they now consistently ascend/descend based on DMG/speed
rather than arbitrarily?

Yeah it’s kind of dumb.

IMO they should rename them back before I stop calling them by their old names.

I liked knowing the weapon names

Now I have no idea what is what anymore

This question has been raised before, and nobody at Fatshark has wanted to talk about it.

Super annoying change.

Voidblast and voidstrike. What is what?

They’ll always be Trauma and Void staves to me.

Naming them both with “void” at the start is like they WANT people to get frustrated with it.

Here’s hoping they’ll pull a “music changes” and revert them once they accept how much it grates on people.

Even more confusing that in brunt shop these weapons have almost identical picture.

I sort of like the name changes but that’s just because it tickles something in my curious brain. For example, “Vigilant Autogun” has a little more 40K to it than “Headhunter Autogun” does.

Nobody understands that. This is confusing after 2 years to change names of the items in game.

I want old names back. I am totally confused by them and don’t know what we talk about… a purge staff, I know… a voidstrike a voidblast, I don’t know what it is.

Bring back old names…

And worse… I can’t even understand why these changes were made!
There is no logic, so it does not facilitate things… Changing the name of the manufacturer is NOT less confusing and does NOT help. Explain me why we had to change my beloved Columnus MK V to a Vrak MK V… what does it bring? what this change brings to us???

I agree with the above. It’s confusing. And incredibly annoying for anyone who created old guide material with named weapons to have them no longer exist in some cases, or worse, have the old weapon name now apply to a different weapon (IAG Vraks/Columnus).

The explanation given doesn’t make any sense that I can see.

I don’t mind the change that much fairness, except the trauma one, that is confusing. But I’m very happy that now I can filter the weapons by family, if I search for a pickaxe I get all the marks one after the other not with some other weapon in the middle.

with a mod I can, without I can’t. Did you see that implemented in game??

I don’t use mods, I make order by name. All the marks of a weapon family are grouped together, for example “Delver pickaxe”. Before most of the marks where separated between each other.
You still need to scroll to reach them but they are all there.

There has to be a reason for it. No way in hell would they create all that work for themselves for the lolz.

It must be something code based for the new menus to function or something like that.

As frustrating as it is, it’s not just to annoy us.

I guess you have never written a line of code?
No, clearly no… the names we see are called by a variable that refers to a translation.
Let’s say it in different words… what you see on your screen has nothing related to the code. That’s how also they can display several languages and how you can play your game in your own language if you choose to.

I suspect it is linked to the PS5 work… But seriously, after 2 years, you don’t change the names of things in your game, except if it is a beta. Are we still in an open beta?
So yes, this is to annoy us and this is extremely disrespectful.

And they do that without code? Must be magic!

Check this:

GitHub - Aussiemon/Darktide-Source-Code: Decompiled scripts from Warhammer 40,000: Darktide.
Here how they are called (lasgun here)

Now, they can call them like they want by referring to the variable that refers to lasgun_p1
If you’re curious, you can check how localization is done in mods (written in lua, so same as darktide core).

So lasgun_p1 can be called like you want:
Frog MK1, Frog MKV, Cry N°15, or even Useless Gun
