Ahem.
I will happily buy the occasional premium cosmetic the moment there’s a little check-box I can mark that reads,
“I derive a great deal of enjoyment from Darktide, and am happy to contribute toward further improvements, or even toward just keeping the lights on. However, I feel the value proposition of this particular, individual purchase is very poor, and the shop’s FOMO-style rotation aggravating, if not insulting.”
Given my financial situation and all the hours I’ve sunk into FS games, I’d happily sign up for a subscription of a few dollars a month while getting nothing in return. Make it a few a week (or more than a “few” a month), but give me a trickle of aquilas, and that’d be okay, too.
(I do miss the Good Old Days, when you could wander over the to the developer’s cave and get a game in return for a few choice mastodon cuts. Then you go your separate ways until the expansion or sequel comes out, at which point it’s another game-for-steaks exchange. All this inveigling around premium currency is modern degeneracy, on par with artificial light and antibiotics!)
This is the last one.
This is the last great issue the game has out of all the stupid boneheaded decisions they’ve made to spite their own face in the name of a fast dollar.
Fatshark, rework this in a way which makes everybody happy and I’ll publicly pour my heart out for you.
All this to say, of course, that “We can’t just throw a poll in the launcher” is kind of bullcrap. It’s been two years, you guys still need to find the hard numbers to press your CEO up against a wall just so he’ll actually listen to complaints?
Why would they have to refund?
It is like if Amazon sells you something at 100€ and 2 years later decide to sell it, on sales, at 15€. Would you ask a refund? There’s still 2 years that you use it…
I agree, while it would be a kidn gesture, I’d be willing to let it go if they could finally get the cosmetics systems to be better overall.
I think there are still 3 issues the game faces that are ugly.
#1 cosmetics
#2 weapon customization needs to be addressed. Guns need at bare minimum customizable sights. A choice between a flashlight and a bayonet would be nice too.
#3 gameplay balance has been wild, and adjusted slowly/then forgotten about consistently. Things need to be addressed on more than an annual basis
#4 staves need a special attack that is meaningful and a primary/special attack that represents the staff (this is a bonus win for them)
I have a habit of comparing games to Warframe, because it does a lot of things well that other games do poorly.
Im just going to make a list, for the sake of relative conciseness;
-
All gear (even the ships you fly in the loading screen) can be colored to your liking using any individual colors you own, by way of 6 or 7 ish color channels/regions.
-
Color packs are sold in the market for a pittance of premium currency. They are themed, and contain something like 40 colors each, which you can mix and match as you please.
-
Color packs and other cosmetics are given out for free for various seasonal and gameplay events.
-
Almost all skins and other cosmetics are all available to view and purchase in the market at all times.
-
Premium currency can be obtained by free players by trading with others, so anyone who plays the game can participate in the cash shop.
-
The game is free to play and all gameplay content is also free.
This is a game that has been going for over ten years, has an average active player count between 40-50000, and makes enough money to run a full-on convention every year.
I don’t have access to the metrics that Fatshark’s live team does, but I’m not convinced for one second that their business strategy is superior.
no it’s like if amazon sold me something at 100$ and then another thing in a different color at 100$ and then they decided instead they were gonna sell you the custom version for 100$ that can change color.
It’s not a good analogy, but i don’t think yours was either.
If i bought a cosmetic and a recolor of said cosmetic but then they make it so i can recolor both cosmetics for free, but other than the original color they’re the exact same i’ve paid twice for the same thing.
Upset over the cosmetics shop selling an identical knife? You should be clamoring here for change to the cosmetics system!
Agreed. But it won’t change because people keep buying them.
I realize that, but fatshark wants to win labor of love - the game isn’t, not so long as the horrible cosmetics shop stands as is.
Bump!
Too soon executus! You have bumped the thread too soon!
Neither redemption arc nor before a fall. All just part of the Fatshark Cycle. You should read up on it. It’s a weird phenomenon coming from the process / management of their company.
I fully endorse the OP.
