First of all I want to say I look forward to the teased content which seem to be about the continuation of the Rinda and Wolfer’s story (if you can call it that) and I guess it is coming with the anniversary update? and the Havoc game mode we get sometime in the future seem like something I’ll enjoy. And hopefully down the line we get to see more of the other suggested things people want (maps, enemies, classes just to name a few)
However as someone who has bought every single cosmetics from Hallowette (even with the ridiculous prices to some items, I know I’m part of the problem as some would say…) I would still like to see more cosmetics at the commissary, it’s not even updated with the default blue and red skins we had from the beginning for the new weapons and it even miss some for the weapons we had from the start.
I would like to see it updated with those missing skins for each weapon and add more colors to match the skins we already have and add some plain colors without all the extra textures on top.
Another idea would be to add cosmetics to Sire Melk’s shop, instead of selling reskins/colors of already existing cosmetics add those to the daily rotation of his shop which again translate to people having to play the game to earn “melk coins” through the weekly contracts if they want another color of a cosmetic they already own, that way you could focus on selling new models in the real money shop.
One thing I have to say though is that I liked the way you added earnable skins through penances, just wish there was more of that.
In a perfect world everything would be free and earned through playing the game.
It’s just a couple ideas out of many here on the forum and I would like to see what you guys think.
Hahaha I knew that point would create some reaction, to be honest I’ve thought the same thing many times over the years in other games, only thing I can say is that I really enjoy Darktide and I have no problem supporting a game I love and I want the game to keep going for many more years. It’s really that simple.
Are the items they sell overpriced? Absolutely I won’t deny that, then again I live in Norway the amount I spend on cosmetics in a month (the two rotations) is less then what I spend if I were to go out drinking one day. Gaming is my hobby and looking at what other people spend on their hobby is way above the amount I spend. ( In case you’re wondering why I would spend this amount of money on pixels )
Supporting a game is one thing. Enabling developers who go for increasingly predatory MTX pricing and practices is another. That’s what you’re doing 100%
For every 10, 20 maybe 100 people not buying MTX because they disagree with FS cosmetic pricing and quality (rightfully so), you’re there buying easily double what they would have bought as a group.
Thus sending the devs a simple message: This pricing and level of quality works and we can continue doing so.
You’re not just doing yourself a disservice, you’re killing games with your behaviour. There’s a reason Ubisoft, EA, and other AAA games became this bad. People like you kept buying and kept ‘supporting’. And the slippery slope kept slipping.
You buying every cosmetic is your business. I think what rankles people is that Fatshark / Tencent think your purchases are driven by their manipulative FOMO setup, and that making a less user-hostile store would disrupt your behavior.
While I agree to most of the things you wrote, the reality is that there are many people buying MTX so even if I were to not buy a single cosmetic ever again it wouldn’t matter sadly, we all would have to stop at the same time to send that signal.
I used to not buy games because they had MTX in them and some of those games are still here today doing better then ever, so I stopped caring about it and if I enjoy a game I might spend some money on it.
I am not a fan of how their system is currently, but I know they need to make money somehow to keep things going so if it were up to me to sell all these things I would lower the prices on everything so more people could afford them and rework the entire shop so you can browse all the released items.
This, to me, is the most realistic goal for the store.
Fatshark will charge whatever they think they can get away with, and MTX (even though in this case the M stands for mega) stores aren’t going anywhere.
Sure it’s one thing to expect everyone to stop at once, but it’s another to buy literally everything you see. You’re literally at the other and of the spectrum, making it worse.
At the end of the day this is just a convenient excuse to justify your behaviour. Ever heard of the term ‘leading by example’? If everyone behaved like you things would be way worse. The fact that you can so callously agree to what I’m saying yet still continue what you’re doing and justify it is crazy to me.
But you do you mate.
Anyway in regards to the shop I agree. It’d be fairer to have a full catalogue and most important of all no monopoly currency
commissary has gas in the tank, as well as future penance rewards, problem is its just more of the same…recolors, or simple additions. the store is what causes it directly. though I have bought a decent amount of stuff I’m no where your level and still would like to see overhauls…most purchases I’ve made were spurred by being able to plan outfits with mods. so most of the time I’m sitting here wondering where tons of items are, if these are the appealing items why are they covered up by clown skins and constant repeats. especially good skins that were added to the schema like 3 months ago like this:
There is such a thing as doing the right thing for no other reason than it being the right thing to do. It’s been a pervasive moral lesson in countless stories told throughout human history from myths to (somewhat) modern film.
Go watch Braveheart so you can get your moral compass reset.
By only making a small portion of the cosmetics available at once they hope to instill FOMO in customers and create artificial rarity, driving people to buy things they might otherwise pass on because ‘this might be my only chance’.
It’s manipulative, despicable and should be subject to business regulators the same way other predatory sales practices are.
OP isn’t some public figure, they’re just spending their money on the hobby they enjoy. Browbeating them over it isn’t, as the OP pointed out, going to change the tides of people that make this monetization scheme profitable.
If we wanna talk about moral right and wrong, we probably need to recalibrate everything way beyond e-pants…spending a single dollar not devoted to your immediate needs or the needs of your fellow humans could be considered a moral failing. But this is all pretty black and white, we all have hobbies and waste our precious time/energy/money in exchange for staying sane.
I know I’m part of the problem in the end and I’m not making excuses, just trying to give you an idea of why I spend money on pixels and answer your question “what the hell is wrong with you?”
And you are right, if everyone did what I do things would be different.
The way you phrased that last part about me being able to agree to parts of what you say and still do what I do makes it sound like I’ve done something unspeakable. Haha
I can sit here and say if you ever find yourself in Norway hit me up and I’ll buy you a beer
While that was true for a long time they actually had a hiccup (don’t remember the date) where the rotation was delayed for a week or maybe it was just a few days.
Either way I do hope that they keep improving on things that us the players want and after the last major patch I have seen more focus on people wanting a rework for the cosmetic part of the game including the store.
what? numerous skins have caused crashes. there’s a pinned post atm…not to mention clipping. someone made a clip with one of the priest vestments with really baggy sleeves where most overhead strikes you couldn’t see anything…awesome design choice.
