Due to a recent change to the controller deadzone setting, those that play with keyboard and mouse but have or have had a controller connected, or an alternate device such as a Razer Tartarus, may encounter an issue in which they’re presented with the controller UI and are unable to progress using their keyboard and mouse.
Firstly…
Is a controller connected?
Are you using a Razer Tartarus?
Are any controllers listed within the Windows Device Manager?
If you’ve answered YES to any of the questions above, disable/disconnect the device for now!
Then…
Re-launch Darktide
Navigate to ‘Settings’ → ‘Controller’
Increase the deadzone value, starting at 0.05, increasing if need be
Save your changes
After making these changes and upon reconnecting any devices you should no longer experience issues.
Since the latest update I cannot get into the game without using a controller. I have always used a kb and game pad and they worked great. Even the controller I tested to determine the issue doesn’t work well but, at least I can get into the beginning level with a character. I don’t see any way to turn off the controller. So, I am unable to play the game anymore. I hope you can fix this.
I am on a PC, keyboard and Mouse. Always have been and have never used a controller.
This load in greets me with ‘Hold A’ and I cannot skip the cut scene which is no biggie, I suppose, as it is just a couple of minutes of my life. However, when I arrive to the character selection screen I cannot do anything as I don’t even possess a controller to plug in to select one of my characters. Yes, I have verified my files. Any suggestions as to how I solve this would be greatly appreciated!
Hello! I’ll try to dig out that report when I am out of my current 3-hour online meeting.
However, following advice from Reddit I did disconnect the Razer Tartarus Pro peripheral which is always connected to my PC, and this solved the problem. To be clear, I always have this controller connected when I play Darktide, including this morning before the patch. Consequently, this is clearly the problem.
Hello! Do you have a controller connected, or anything like a Razer Tartarus Pro? Or, alternatively, any programs on your PC that are used for connecting a controller/peripherals other than a KB&M?
It’s showing that an Xbox controller is connected:
