We are aware of an issue in which Darktide does not close properly.

In the mean time, you should be able to work around this by killing Darktide via the Task Manager.

Every time i close the game, or it crashes, steam says that the game is still running, i then push the stop button to stop the process, but it just greys out the stop button and stays like that. I tried to see if it would eventually resolve itself, and just left it like that, 5 hours later it was still stuck.
To be able to start the game again i basically have to exit out of steam every time.

Just so we are clear, the game itself is not really running, but steam seems to think it does.

I have verified my files, re installed the game from scratch, and this problem still persists, and it has been this way since the start of this pre-launch beta, and its the only game in my library that has this problem.

Every time I close the game Steam says the game is still running despite darktide can not be fount in the taskmanager. If I try to tell steam to stop darktide nothing happens. The only fix is to restart steam.

Issue Description:
After exiting the game (either voluntarily through quitting or after a crash) the game is reported as ā€œrunnningā€ in Steam. Need to quit Steam and restart, or click stop, wiat a couple of minutes and then click ā€œkill gameā€ (or something like that). Looks like game is leaving some background task running, as it doesnā€™t appear in task manager to kill off directly. Left it in the ā€œrunningā€ state last night, Steam reported 18 hours of play time this morning (vs 2-3 actual hours playing)

Iā€™m having the exact same issue. Been staring at the task manager trying to figure out which background task to kill but nothing sticks out. Anyone got any ideas?

The executable is Darktide.exe but Steam doesnā€™t check for that to see if itā€™s running. Looks like it depends on the game to send an event that the game has stopped, which never happens.

I was experiencing this issue consistently, but resolved it by restarting my computer, after which it has ceased to occur, if that helps troubleshoot.

Issue Description:
game process(es?) will hang after selecting ā€œexit gameā€ from esc menu. will show as still active in steam library and will hang there for hours like that (not exaggerating). then, when I click the ā€œstopā€ button on the steam library page for Darktide it gets stuck again even if there is no task listed in the task manager window. the only way I have found to clear the issue is to restart my whole steam client, at which point I notice that steam says that it was unable to sync w/the cloud after the last time I played.

just finished playing a little bit with the latest update and it happened again when I went to close close the program. fresh log attached.

This is not the case, it doesnā€™t matter what you try to do to close it, be it through task manager, alt+F4 or any other method. The game still shows as running, please review this further and make sure youā€™re picking up what weā€™re trying to tell you please.

Can confirm that this is still happening on Steam launch version 1.0.11, while exiting the game normally via menu.
Windows 11 64-bit.

After a crash, since just tonight, game hangs on crash for minutes and then finally ends. gmae is stuck running. this happend for a day in beta over week agoā€¦

This issue was fixed for me for a day or two, but now its back again.

A temporary workaround is to navigate to the Darktide folder in your Steamapps and run ā€œstart_protected_gameā€. This will boot the game and allow you to alt+f4 quickly to close it without restarting Steam. If you have task manager up, you can kill EAC directly after launching it to also achieve this. This will close Darktide on Steam and let you back into your library.

I bought the game through Steam and every time I quit the game since official launch, the game continues to run in the background as an active application. When I try to ā€œStopā€ the program in Steam, it remains stuck on ā€˜Stoppingā€™. The only way that I can fix this that I know of is to use Task Manager to completely close out Steam in order to play again. I really like this game, but I think about 10% of my play time has accrued because of this issue in the past few days.
