KNOWN ISSUE: Crashing After Installing Latest NVIDIA Driver (576.40, 576.52, 576.66)

Downgrade the driver.

Seeing this post, I did not update and it works (I use a 5080 also).
DDU → install the version just before this one

I’ve edited this post to include driver version 576.52, which is also impacted by the same issues.

I’ve been informed that NVIDIA have since identified a repro, so I hope we won’t be waiting much longer for this to be ironed out.

Thanks to those who sent in their DxDiags, no more are needed at this time. Much appreciated!

ok, so this newest driver doesn’t fix that crashing that started with 576.40

For what it looks like, nope, unless there is something wrong with my configuration, but I had a similar issue with vermintide2, I opened a ticket and I made several changes in the Nvidia app, so I want to see if the issue is the same as in vermitinde2 (for missconfiguration on my laptop)

I suspect it may have to do with one or more Nvidia specific features.

I always update drivers without using DDU, no issue but reminder to not be connected to internet if so use:

DDU method:

  • Reset any undervolt or overclocks on GPU. I had problem with past years ago where it prevented GPU reaching max clock after driver install.
  • Suspend Bitlocker otherwise it will make you type in recovery key (Does so for me)
  • After downloading drivers and nvidia app separately, disconnect from internet. Ensure wifi can’t reconnect as well.
  • Safe mode
  • DDU
  • Normal boot
  • Install drivers only, but choose to exclude Nvidia App
  • Install Nvidia app as separate download for latest, not together with drivers.
  • Then back on internet
  • You can set your GPU undervolt/overclock back on afterwards or might be better to test as default for now

Important to not be connected to internet during this process otherwise windows will pull old drivers from windows update and all you’re doing is overriding it without clean.

Shader cache clear

  • To clean shader cache
  • Nvidia control panel or Nvidia app disable shader cache size
  • Reboot (Sometimes cache files get locked from deletion)
  • Use cleanmgr and tick DirectX shader cache
  • Enable default shader cache size again

This should empty out %AppData%\LocalLow\NVIDIA\DXCache

Darktide cache

  • %AppData%\Roaming\Fatshark\Darktide (Delete ONLY file called shader_cache.hans)
  • %AppData%\Roaming\Fatshark\Darktide\EBWebView\Default\Cache\Cache_Data (empty the contents, leave folder intact)

Darktide Launcher

  • On Darktide launcher, reset your graphic settings, leave as default, hit accept
  • Launch the game and set your graphic settings again in game. Restart if have to without resetting graphics in launcher 2nd time i.e. texture quality change requires this.

Nvidia specific features (Only if above things do not work and want to see if Nvidia specific feature issue)

I’ve always updated to latest drivers and no issue. But then it might be because I don’t use Nvidia features except one thing DLAA. That’s all I use from it.

To test turn off the features at driver level Nvidia control panel or app and in game.

  • Gsync
  • Smooth motion
  • Frame Generation
  • Reflex
  • DLSS
  • Super Resolution
  • DSR
  • On Darktide launcher, reset your graphic settings, leave as default, hit accept
  • Launch the game and set your graphic settings again in game. Restart if have to without resetting graphics in launcher 2nd time i.e. texture quality change requires this.

Crash - During Play

Issue Description (Required):

I’m experiencing random crashes while playing.
Sometimes after 10-20 minutes and sometimes after 10-20 seconds into a mission.
The crashes don’t occur during any specific action.
Here are my PC specs:
Processor: Intel i9-14900KF
Graphics card: NVIDIA GeForce RTX 4080 SUPER
32 GB RAM and all on SSDs.
The drivers are now up to date (I already had the crashes, but the drivers weren’t up to date. Then I updated the drivers and unfortunately I’m still getting crashes).
NVDIA Driver Number 576.40 and 576.52.
CPU Bios is Updated.

Nvidia has been really bad with drivers for the past few releases. You may want to try some previous versions.

Is your bios up to date, and have you checked if your CPU is impacted by the stability problems that impact 13th and 14th gen Intel CPUs?

I tested the current and latest Nvidia drivers, and both crashed (Number: 576.40 and 576.52)
I have tested with u link, test says no problems with the CPU.

Can you try 576.28?

Yes, with this “old” Driver the Game works fine… Nvidida…
