I think i might have figured out the error: Itās the Anticheat.
Tried to load the game without EAC and it loaded and had the Backend Error exactly the same as before. Also, when trying to load with EAC on the logs report an error to load the EAC too.
Iām gonna try to delate it and verify the game files.

I canāt play the game at all because it doesnāt lauch when I click āPlayā on steam. However it does lauch when I run the āstart_protected_game.exeā as administrator. But then, when I try to log in I have this message : āBackend error signing inā. After doing some researches I tried to use a VPN to bypass it, it doesnāt work. I turned off Ipv6 on my ethernet connection and kept Ipv4 only and tried a manual DNS like the classic 8.8.8.8, 8.8.4.4 and disabling my firewall, none of them work. Of course I checked the integrity of files and reinstalled the game also. (I also meet the requirements as my specs are Windows 10, i7 4770k, GTX 1080, 24 Gb ram).
Do you have any suggestion that I could try ? Thanks in advance !

Just bought today on Steam, backend error on post opening cutscene no way to get around it as far as changing dns, using experimental branch, updating driver. Also, no weird steam account name. Probably going to refund until fixed though.

Thanks, I tried that but unfortunately nothing changed. I got refunded from steam, Iāll wait before buying the game until I see improvements on forums. But what is very curious, is after getting refunded by steam, I didnāt unistall the game immediately, and I kept launching it the exact same way I described above, just to see (run the āstart_protected_game.exeā as administrator in the game folder directly). And the error was surprisingly exactly the same (backend error logging in after the intro). The game (and the bug) behaved exactly the same way no matter if I owned it or not. Maybe there is something to put devs on the trail. Or not, I donāt know.

I have tried Multiple solutions to fix it as suggested by the community
Attempted fixes
- Changing DNS server
- Setting Static IP (I do not have a VPN subscription, and free VPNās are slow/sketchy)
- Verifying game files (Done 4+ times, all successful.)
- Tried the game on the experimental branch to no success.
I suppose i can only wait for this to get fixed, the beta ran fine for me by the way.

- Force restarted PC
- Bought a VPN.
Iāve reason to believe i simply needed to restart my PC however.
Glad to hear this was resolved. To confirm, can you play with no Backend Error without the use of a VPN?
as of having closed the game, the Backend Error is back, even with using a VPN
(Iām once again unable to even get to character selection)
I cannot play even using a VPN, or changing my DNS, or uninstalling and reinstalling, or running as admin, or launching from a shortcut, or creating an entire separate steam account to try to access the game via steam family share. What progress have the developers made on this issue and what information do they need to continue to resolve it? I was unable to play the beta due to this issue and continue to be unable to play even after full release. Please communicate more frequently with us on this issue, it may seem backburner to you but to us who literally cannot play the game we paid for, itās catastrophic.

Iāve also had this Issue however it seemed to be caused by Kaspersky, turning it off seems to fix my issue perhaps others are seeing their virus scanners blocking their access?
I also have Kaspersky but turning it off solves nothing for me
