KNOWN ISSUE: Backend Error

did you just pause protection or outright exit, for some reason it’ll still block if you don’t exit it completly

You are a *ucking legend, it worked!

Damn, there must be some way to make Kaspersky ignore it tho

This worked for me, Pausing protection doesn’t work but outright crashing out my virus protection lets me play. I’m happy to have a workaround but this is ridiculous.

nice, now it’s crashing every time i enter a game…

ok, it was the Raytracing. Now the game is working.

One of our Backend Engineers mentioned seeing more and more references to Kaspersky, so I load up this post and it appears @Quegon has already hit the nail on the head!

Any luck if you simply exclude the Darktide.exe (Steam\steamapps\common\Warhammer 40,000 DARKTIDE\binaries) in Kaspersky as opposed to closing it down entirely?

Adding the specific exception causes the launcher to regain some of its borders/imagery, when my anti virus is running, even when paused, the launcher is just blank grey with the buttons showing up. With the exception specifically added trying to log in still generates the Backend error. Only by shutting down Kaspersky completely does it allow me to log in. In fact if I have the game already started and at the screen to press space to log in, if my kaspersky is active it will backend error and without quitting from the game if i crash my kaspersky I can then successfully log in.

Sadly it doesn’t seem to work, all my steam directory was already excluded from Kaspersky but i was having the error nonstop.

Seems like only closing Kaspersky is working for me, very odd

Seems that the same issue is occurring for me, under Avast!
When I add the program (the entire folder) as an exception it doesn’t fix anything, but turning off all shields (for an hour) solves the problem. It also solves another problem with progression counters not working at the end of a match.

I spent a good hour or so trying to add it to exclusions/trusted apps, nothing I did allowed it to work. I believe kaspersky just keeps blocking it.

Getting the Backend Error as soon as I try connecting. None of the fixes have worked and I’m not using Kapersky.

Unique Fix for Gaming Laptops!
Manually disabling wifi when using ethernet fixes the issue. No need for vpn, dns, or reinstall.

I finally managed to fix it. I found this on the fatshark forum.

  1. Navigate to: C:\Program Files\Steam\steamapps\common\Warhammer 40,000 DARKTIDE\EasyAntiCheat
  2. Delete the ‘Certificates’ directory
  3. Open the Command Prompt
  4. Enter and run the command below:

“C:\Program Files (x86)\Steam\steamapps\common\Warhammer 40,000 DARKTIDE\EasyAntiCheat\EasyAntiCheat_EOS_Setup.exe” install 7acc27ad90f7456f9ca9cf05bb7ef6db

  • Please note that you may have to make changes to the path, if your installation directory is not the same as the above.

I have now managed to play for the first time and I had the game for a week during open beta. I hope this helps someone out there.

This had a positive effect for me - I used to have to spam attempts to login but this time it worked on the first try, and the game end screen bugs seem to have been solved. Will have to try a few more times to verify if this is the master fix, but so far so good.

Hello,

I also have the issue right after the cinematic.
On my side it is because my internet provider use Fortinet and the website https://bsp-cdn-prod.atoma.cloud that your game try to reach after the cinematic is not rated on their side so blocked.
Side note: I can connect and play the game without any issue using my phone internet connection.

Do you think you could make the end point you try to reach trustable by any security thirparty ?
I already tried to asked Fortinet to rate the previous end point as a Game end point but not sure they will trust me as an individual and not the company owner/user of the end point. Also I don’t know if it is the only non trusted end point the game try to reach.

I’ve had an unworkable backend era after the opening cinematic since the open Beta. Tried changing DNS. Don’t have Kaspersky. Refused to use a VPN because that’s not a reasonable solution. At any rate, I returned the game on Steam and have been watching this forum to monitor when I should purchase again, but the lack of responses, and the way no fix seems to work consistently for everyone kept me away. The fact that the assorted fixes varied from updating DNS to using a VPN to updating the Epic Games Launcher (WTF?) eventually made me decide the solution was unworkable, so I just bought the game from the XBOX store instead of Steam and I’m all good now.

If you’re within your return time on Steam, that’s my recommended fix. Just be aware Steam/XBOX cross-play isn’t a thing yet (as far as I know), so if you have Steam friends you want to play with, this may not be the solution for you.

Hi, I’m getting this issue as well. I do not have Kaspersky installed.
My log:

Can’t login to the game, after the cutscene, I hit space and it gives me backend error.

No Kaspersky, only windows defender. I’ve reset my router, changed my DNS, I’m not buying a VPN to play the game, that’s absolutely ridiculous.

After asking to also authorized https://bsp-im-prod.atoma.cloud/ seems to work

The backend errors are back, so the EAC certificate reset didn’t work.

Sometimes I wonder if it’s just the servers being swamped.
