Is this legal as far as modding goes?

Have you googled it and tried something like this?
I believe it may just boil down to choosing the raw headset in the Start->“Mixer”->output device for nV Container.
I’m assuming the THX profile app switches the default global output to the THX virtual surround per app, DT in this case and doesn’t touch the rest. So setting the nV Container device as in the article should work?

It’s an older article, but I saw recent mentions of it as that being the undelying issue.

P.S. It’s a curious choice using Razer’s THX surround vs DTS licensed virtual 7.1 with the G733’s Logi software. Where there issues?
It might be worth comparing the options again.

I’ve googled many things, I’ve tried it in that menu, I’ve tried changing the settings in THX, I’ve tried changing the settings within the container. I’m starting to think it’s just a hardware issue of USB soundcards…

I’m using grandfathered software from a previous headset. I wasn’t aware the g733 came with any native software? I was under the impression it’s just PnP?

Advantage OVER others? Mate, it’s a coop, let the players have fun

Ah I had a hunch it was from an older headset.
(USB) Headset’s arent pnp per se beyond basic sound, the virtual 7.1 still requires a SW component which in this case your Razer Synapse SW is providing, or an external DAC/AMP soundcard that may do it, like my Sennheiser GSX 1000 (for analog stereo jack).

The G733 does indeed use DTS tech for a bit now.

There are a loft of SW options to use with your headset via Logi GHub, for output (surround) and input (microphone).
I’d strongly recommend you check it out, DTS is quite good for virtual 7.1.
It may make your problems disappear, I have a buddy using a Logi HS w/ GHub DTS and pretty sure he doesn’t have nV recording issues (uninstall the razer stuff!).
As I mentioned, IIRC some models might even have the full DST Spatial Audio app license if you want to bypass Ghub.

IKR? who cares if that guy sees and hears all the enemies through walls, and has hacked DLLs to move 2x faster, and uses aimbot and dodge bots. It’s a co-op game, let them have their fun!

I have an AMD 7800x3d on an MSI B650 mortar wifi board with the ALC 4080 sound chip. Only the AMD chipset drivers and whatever sound drivers windows 11 provides are installed. Windows Hardware Settings are all default. No EQ or virtual sound. In-game setting is stereo headphones. Phones are Beyerdynamic DT880 fed by a drop O2 amp connected to the onboard sound output, plus an antlion mic going into the board’s mic out.

My experience so far: very stable, good spatial sound, i notice every sound cue right away and I can pinpoint the source - provided the engine does play it and it doesn’t get muted by a groaner playing his sound file at the same time.

Just for comparison, my old PC (I upgraded mainly for darktide) has a sound blaster x with its creative software and it would sometimes forget its settings or I wouldn’t hear people on discord. Nothing like this happened with the new PC.

I mean, you’re playing in stereo, 2.0, right? And it’s set to stereo across the board ? Where is that spatial comping from (beyond the SW stereo panning+attenuation+reverb in sound engine I mean)? DT doesn’t do it’s own output sound HRTF virtualization right?

That’s a very good semi-open headset on a good but plain AMP, open-back is better for virtual surround but I bet you’re pretty much there.

Do yourself a favor and do the DTS trial at least, or HeSuVi and compare to plain old stereo.

P.S. The GSX 1000 revision 2 is on sale at Amzn Japan (ships to USA), great surround but I’m sure the 2.0 DAC part isn’t as good as your O2 amp, but I wonder how the ALC 4080 dampens that.

Yes, I’m playing everything in plain 2.0 stereo. It gives me a clear sound, I can hear and locate everything, and I don’t need more.
The DT 880 just happened to have a better shape for glueing the mod mic on, since I also have an AKG K702 which I actually prefer. I could buy a more powerful amp of course, but I’m not an audiophile, just a gamer who wants to hear clearly, so there are more important upgrades coming like an OLED monitor.
Maybe someone else knows better what 3d sound darktide uses, I just use what sounds best to me, I think it’s called high dynamic, however I can’t check right now since I’m away.

I mean you do you, but stereo and virtual 7.1/spatial/3d sound are not the same things.
high dynamic is unrelated to 3d sound.

Pretty sure it uses WWise engine, and doesn’t do its own HRTF. Not many games do afaik; It’s not intended for the game to do it, it’s an external responsibility. If you don’t enable 3d sound you won’t get 3d sound. You have plain stereo set, you should get plain stereo +some engine enhancements to help.

P.S. for others using Spidey mod, maybe trying not playing in stereo first, set up your sound. This goes double if you have a good headset, triple for open-back.

It’s akin to having a hi Hz g-sync OLED HDR monitor then only playing at 60hz, 8 bit color SDR, regular v-sync on.

Yep, indeed, I don’t care… until it’s not something really game breaking, like “press one button, delete everything on screen”, I just don’t care

Plus you exaggerated a lot… you compared a reflex, wich just make clearer your view, with something able to change your character’s abilities

I don’t feel like getting bogged down in semantics or degrees of cheeze. Fine line between QoL and that (spidey) crosses it. OP is suggesting changing sights does too, and I can see why.

Unlike Spidey Sense, the Healthbars mod gives players information they should not have had. If a player knows how much health every elite enemy has it will affect their target priority.
Also, healthbars indirectly help players to track enemies even without LoS/sound ques.

Sweet Emprah, cues, the word is cues!
Y’all are gonna be the death of me lol. Wait a tick…

P.S. Jebus, that guy in vid’s keystrokes are loud, prolly didn’t set up his mic properly. And healthbars, w/ modded sights as per OP.

P.P.S. I think I ran into one of 'em in VT2 a lot.

Thanks, not changing it though. Let it be seen.

I’m playing on ye’ old stereo, with some amount of pass-through Voicemeeter.
This Virtual 7.1 looks interesting, so I’ll give it a try.
Doubtful it will fix sounds problem, as those are most probably caused by game itself.

Hey, since this is now the de facto modding thread… is there a mod that lets you export your inventory in to a CSV file?

That’d be ace. I’ve SO much sh1 at 370+ that I’d really like to take an inventory before FatShark decide to nuke everything.

Also. I have some expensive headphones. Just regular stereo ones mind you. Anyone got any suggestions for a decent USB DAC ? I’ve seen many hi-fi quality ones at £300 or so, but I’m imagining they’re going to be poop for games.

Not that I’m aware or, but it wouldn’t be too hard to put together. Still, there doesn’t seem to be any indication that existing inventory will be affected in any way.

Yeah it won’t solve any other underlying issues. But sound cue bugs are one thing, less accurate sound position by user choice is another.

I have a suspicion (too) many user just play in ye olde stereo and that’s leaving valuable performance on the table imho.

Many popular headsets these days (well for a looong time really) come bundled with good 3d sound software solutions and often are built-in to their packages like GHub, you just have to install it.

P.P.S. Weirdly, I had a buddy encountering some sound-related issues that reportedly went away when they updated drivers for various things.

I’d recommend a Sennheiser GSX 1000 revision 2 I mentioned further up (I have rev 1, get rev2).

It’s not a music purist super expensive DAC/AMP, rather it’s a gaming targeted one with nice features and great 3d sound. The 3d sound was the best to me a few years ago when I tested it vs various software solution to pair with my PC 38x. Open back will always give you better positional sound vs closed-back for 2 cans.

It’s a cooperative team game remember? It’s an advantage over the enemy bots, and a benefit to the player hence a benefit to the team.

I really dont get it, are you mad that people are performing well in a pve game?
