With the addition of new classes, I suppose it’s inevitable that some classes just lose a lot of love until things start to even out for the newer. But damn, if Ogryn feels weak as hell right now. My ranged weapons feel useless mostly and my melees are almost all geared towards single heavy blows. It’s almost impossible to find a reasonable damage weapon that does lots of sweeping attacks to clear chaff. Then you have the chaff destroyer’s of Arbites and Scum… regular men who out perform a man 10ft tall and, in lore, easily rivals the power of an Astartes. How does the Ogryn not just have a damage multiplier against, at the absolute least, Infested and Unarmored enemy types. Give the Big Man something to make him feel powerful again. A few new weapons wouldn’t hurt either.
Ogryn is the only class that makes Havoc 3 times easier for just having them on your team, regardless of what Combat Ability they choose
Basically, Ogryn is top-tier, despite having some built-in disadvantages. It’s just in the build and playstyle you choose.
Only if ogryn is accompanied by a psycher or something that can defend against gunners. Without it, ogryn is ultimate hard mode on havoc.
Gunners being outrageously op is bread and butter of havoc and obviously the main weakness of ogryn due to his size, speed and lack of gold toughness.
ogryn is more or less the token debuff class that feels middling to play but it’s ok because you give everyone 80% more damage
i think his biggest issue is that he has like 3 weapons and 2 of them don’t really feel very satisfying for what they are, they could fix a lot of complaints if they stopped doing lame ass “20% more damage! 15% more damage!” tuning and acutally made the weapons feel less like they’re made of foam. even using the very effective shield just feels like you’re stuck in a 2004 mmo doing the same shield bash skill over and over again
Ogryn just has built in disadvantages due to being big and hefty. His power needs to be very absurd to compensate and make him feel properly good. This has been the case a few times in the past but currently he is still very good just hard to play due to his disadvantages.
Though not sure what you mean about ogryn having a lack of sweeping damage as the shield is right there. Sure it’s not hoard clearing like a relic zealot but I don’t think anyone is going to call it bad.
The Shield is easily his best weapon choice. And sure it has good sweeping, and I wouldn’t expect the shield to kill a ton of chaff enemies in one strike. But then you have the knife… Why wouldn’t it cut 5 Infested or Unarmored enemies in half with one strike, uncharged? But if you go an look at a lot of the strike patterns for Ogryn melee weapons, you’ll notice he lacks a lot of Vanguard strikes and the ones he does have are mostly in a downward arc, almost never from side to side. So you end up chopping maybe 2-3 guys in one strike rather than the 5-6 and maybe 2 deep he could be doing. Ogryn, IMO, should feel like the single greatest chaff remover, un-powered by any other ability, than any class by a long shot. I can see the others out pacing him with there buffs and abilities but Ogryn’s need to feel a little more special I think.
Ogryn gets obscene damage resistance, so you can just spam dodge into gunners though…
Ogryn is an unkillable god and lord of all he surveys, man, with insane cleave and stagger, and very good damage. There’s nothing weak about Ogryn at all.
The class’ one issue is that he’s specifically vulnerable to shooters and trappers, and those are the most dangerous enemies in the game in high difficulties. And that’s not even really a problem, when the tradeoff is trivializing everything else.
Both of these statements are true. Ogre is both the strongest and weakest class in the game simultaneously.
Ogryn isn’t weak at all ,it’s actually a very strong class.
If you feel it’s weak, you’re either using the class incorrectly or simply lack experience with it.
To be frank, Taunt and Shield could probably stand to be nerfed a little.
Don’t expect it to be a class where pressing a single button solves every problem.
Spam dodge on h40 gunners? U wot M8?
I’m basically a 10 tonne ninja as ogryn and use dodge 90% and block 10% and have my true survivor etc which I did as ogryn…
But there ain’t nooooo way you’re dodging your way out of h40 gunners fire. It can buy you a couple of seconds then it’s swiss cheese time.
give ogryn his old pre-release dodge back then remove his slide
The ogryn knife definitely could use a buff. But consider how short it is I don’t think it would particularly make sense for it to really sweep through hoards. At least it would be kinda weird. Then again the Hive Scum shivs apparently can just slice through hoards like butter despite them not really looking like big slashing weapons.
Well there are two issues really.
1: Ogryn too tall so his attack patterns are made to swing downwards. I think it’s more a stylistic thing then anything but still something to consider. He can’t really wind up a horizontal slash naturally he needs to look down just in general. So if he just did big horizontal sweeps he would be swinging into the ground a bit.
2: Ogryn in lore just doesn’t have access to the sort of weapons that would do that. In lore Ogryn are very much single target beat stick type characters in almost any depiction. I don’t think one has ever had a two handed sword or anything like that. I think they did a pretty good job filling in that gap with the shield all things considered.
Of course these aren’t hard problems. They could be fixed. I just think these are decent reasons for why we see Ogryn the way he is currently.
In the hands of the right player, ogryn is very powerful. But what class isn’t?
The difference is that ogryn has huge weaknesses to ranged enemies compared to the other classes. Of course this is only noticeable in high havoc where gunners shoot uranium laced bullets.
In normal auric and lower, all classes are op in varying ways.
I don’t think ogryn is the most powerful though, due to his huge specific weaknesses. TBF though you could argue this is a gameplay strength and other classes should also have weaknesses that require other classes to remedy…in a coop game.
The mk3 knife is Ogryn’s best melee weapon though.
rather ogryn is the last class that requires some skill at the game and effort being put into the playstyle as opposed to one hit wonders that disguise themselves for belonging in higher difficulties, when all that keeps them standing is the characters abilities.
that being said, im at a point where i almost only respect a good ogryn performance in random matches, knowing how easy most other classes have it at getting more for less.
so no, ogryn aint a weak class in strong hands, other classes are too strong in weak ones.
Well said ![]()
Yeah this is definitely nonsensical. Ogryn is definitely the horde clear master. I can’t think of a single weapon that isn’t good against hordes.
He bizarrely suffers against high hp enemies like crushers or monstrosities or DH (where other classes all seem to have some crazy 1-2 hitters).
