Yeah, Ogryn’s tankier for sure, but their guns are straight up trash and need a serious overhaul.
Kickbacks, Rumblers, Ripper Guns these things shoot massive caliber rounds that dwarf the Arbites’ Exterminator shotgun, but they hit like wet noodles. I’m out here on Damnation melting elites and trash mobs with an Exterminator that’s barely upgraded, no T4 blessings or anything, and meanwhile on Ogryn it takes half a Ripper mag or a bunch of Kickback shots just to drop one elite. Why the hell even play Ogryn at this point?
Ogryn is my favourite class. It has an ironically steep learning curve as you go up difficulties though. People assume it’ll be easy but actually it requires a very particular and focused approach (the opposite to what you might expect for the big dumb brute).
Try a melee build with karsolas if you’re in damnation. It’s a lot of fun
A couple things massively affecting this opinion. Ogryn recently got nerffed like; Light attack bleed, damage passives, damage reduction passives (non feel no pain). Then amidst all this the enemies health pools got massively buffed. Crusher and maulers nearly triple HP. None of the Ogryn weapons got buffed in order to compensate for these two things that made the big guy fall behind (in damage aspect he still has his taunt utility but hey even that got a cooldown nerf) all his weapons took a hit since they buffed HP and nerffed his damage. At his current state they need to buff weapons like Pickaxe damage to at least one shot a crusher with appropriate blessings/talent points or what’s the point of taking such risk specially since they nerffed the survival of all the DR passives and Heavy hitter also bleed DR was nerffed. Now it’s even more risky to use pickaxe and less reward (can’t one shot) now imagine pickaxe without support abilities on your team you’re doing less damage and taking more damage. If they want the Ogryn to at least make use of his already limited weapons we need decent weapons buffs nothing crazy like Ogryn 2.0 but something at least.
It should be a legal requirement to spend X number of hours actually getting to know something in the game properly before you’re allowed to make a balance post on it. Implying that kickback, but especially Rumbler is a bad weapon is a level of insanity that should warrant immediate institutionalisation.
It takes 1-2 shots, unless you are at long range / miss most of the bullets (often amounts to the same thing). No ranged damage perks needed. If you are having trouble killing elites with the Rippergun then it’s probably due to managing the recoil. Not sayin’ it’s easy, but it’s doable.
The Kickback is great, but won’t reliably kill at range. Which makes sense since it’s got spread. At least you can send snipers flying from 80m, make sure to ping em first
Exterminator shotgun is extremely good though. Ogryn doesn’t have a quick precision type of gun like that, but makes up for it in stagger more often than not.
Might just be a case of expectations, Ogryn is built different – I’d keep with it though (extreme bias alert)
Defensive play is polarizing in most games but I think what ogryn does differently than dogcop is enough. And with that small list of mostly things that make the game keep going instead of losing, its probably for the better Ogryn isn’t some outstanding self sustaining character with amazing damage. You just have to live with outstanding self sustain. But TLHS is a joke weapon, which for a character with like 5 gun types you could use and maybe 13 weapon families altogether feels badman. I can’t abide Rippergun slander, it isn’t perfect but find me something else with fast draw, pin point accuracy and actual range. I run Unarmored with it because its 100% for specialists and tox bombers are aids.
That might indicate that he’s not a ranged class, right? Or that if you want to special snipe you should use the heavy stubber, but not the twin linked one.
a non-crutch class? well I dunno, maybe having fun to outclass the cheap one trick ponies with skill instead of numbers/talents, deny em the killfeed and let him trot behind like the wannabe he really is?
had plenty of those matches for sure and it was fun indeed every time.
some even quit in frustration seeing their oh so beloved i-win button fail time and again.
that’s to say works/is fair game up til auric maelstrom
havoc 40, people usually stick together and don’t do the cowboy stuff. then again at this point most members of the squad (yep not using “team” on purpose here) are on par and sniffed each others rears good enough as to not show off unnecessarily.
two different types of players/two different game modes.
Which is the problem with lugger, you sacrifice both melee and tankyness only to play as the worst ranged build (not counting rumbler spam) in the game.
The sacrifice of both of which arguably could have massively been abated had they just moved Batter & Delight in Destruction to the middle branches of the tree, instead of keeping both of them with the pure melee damage nodes over on the left side.
Surely if they saw ranged builds suffering on both points, then the “make everything bleed when you swing your gun with the special” passive combined with the “get %DR when things bleed around you” passive could really help on that setup, if only it wasn’t moons away on the other side of the tree?
Idk though, with the limited weapon variety and PBB/BLO in their current states with the current balance, there’s still bigger issues. Maybe this could be a band-aid fix until then?
Either way, I only use PBB on a HH grenadier gauntlet setup, and mainly for the free instant reload at that, though the rending buff is nice into crusher trains that haven’t already dropped by the time I’ve used the first mag
I honestly want pbb and blo completely reworked at this point, pbb is super powerful but the cooldown is to long and ogryn doesn’t really have enough ammo for sacrificing melee to be worth it. I would prefer pbb to be weaker but have a much shorter cooldown blo on the other hand I don’t know how to solve without it making the rumbler even more busted.
I agree, alls I could think of would be that they’d then have to look at having limitations to how certain buffs effect specific weapons/ marks, and that sounds like it’ll get very messy, very fast.
