what annoys me is the side cosmetics. You want to charge for a cool “full kit”? okay, fine. But so many of these hats/helmets side cosmetics I really, really feel should be in the game. Ogryn trucker hat? Desert rebreather for veteran? Caged Mask for Zealot?
Why are literally all the interesting cosmetics paid, but slightly re-painted versions of the basic kits, which are SUPER boring in comparison are what we can get?
In VT2 (trust me, this is getting annoying for me to say at this point too) there was a decent balance. Yeah, the coolest stuff was paid, but there were plenty of nice and still high quality cosmetics I could buy in-game.
The stuff in Darktide I can buy in-game looks so lame compared to even the side cosmetics we can get here which are not cool enough to buy with real money IMO. The Ogryn trucker hat is a great example for me. I’d love to have that - would I pay $3 for it or whatever? Absolutely not. Why is it a paid item?
This just feels crappy for me, someone who bought VT2 cosmetics to support the game, feels like I’m just being exploited at this point. “Oh they bought stuff in VT2? Okay well let’s make everything paid then”
Because the cash shop is the point of the game. They obviously are just focused on making money and not a good game right now. Seems like the majority of dev time goes IN to the cash shop. Still bugs on all the “gameplay” features they implemented.
I do think it’s worth pointing out that the developers who are bug-crushing, or the ones in the trenches in code development are not the same people who would work on the cosmetic store. So to me that’s still independent and can both be done at the same time without impacting the other.
I don’t even blame the 3d model artists, the UI artists, and UX designers - they’re just doing what they’re told. This is a management issue that feels they can exploit us and it feels really bad as a long-term supporter.
Yeah some of the unlockable skins look kind of lame compared to the paid ones. I don’t see why they couldn’t make the unlockable and paid skins both cool.
In the world where we keep the paid shop - because let’s be real that’s not going to go away, I’d be fine if the full sets were paid, but all the “side” stuff honestly should be earnable in game.
These should be earnable in game. It’s pretty clear they’re taking pretty much every asset that the artists made and are making them paid. We get left with the scraps.
Simpler solution is to make the currency earnable so people can save up and buy what they want, FS gets player retention as people grind, people actually get something rewarding for the grind, and they will still make a profit long term as the shop and the premium cosmetics gets more accessible and less stigmatised… oh and being able to earn it actually justifies the premium currency’s existence in the first place instead of just being a money ferry.
Make Melks bonus for completing all weekly missions give 100-200ish Aquilas instead of just more tokens for things you may or may not want and its problem solved imo, not exactly the hardest thing to implement considering the system already exists. Would be a much better than just tossing a few token cosmetics to the free shop to make people feel less left out.
Yeah I’d be down with that, that’s what they do in VT2. Dailies and weeklies gives you a small number of shillings, which takes a while but then you can buy cosmetics with them.
They just removed that part here because they realized that they could get away with charging for literally everything.
Like seriously. In what world is an Ogryn trucket hat, a tablecloth for zealot, a desert rebreather for veteran, paid cosmetics? Each character now has 6 cosmetic head pieces for sale with real money, but in game you can only get like…1, with some mild palette swaps or mild alterations with penances. If you want to look different AT ALL then you have to fork over some cash.
That’d go such a long way for fostering good will and it’d barely affect their cosmetic sales. If you got 200 aquilas per week it’d take you almost a quarter of a year to earn enough for ONE of the biggest packages. If Fatshark want to actually increase our playtime then that’d be far less malicious than what they’ve been doing up until this point.
I don’t think that will change. Honestly, I have at least 1-2 people in every game with “randoms” who have bought skins. And I hardly think that these are only bought with the 2500 Aquilas from the high-priced edition. Unfortunately, I also bought this edition, but I refuse to spend them now, because I don’t want to support such a filthy system (even though I already did it in principle).
Nevertheless, why should FatShark change it if it works so well?
Yep. And unfortunately this is where the whole “vote with your wallet” thing doesn’t work out either. For every one person who goes “no, this is too much, I will not”, there’s 10+ people who will just throw their money at the screen. So Fatshark won’t give a sh-t.
I’m actively displeased at how little character expression there is in this game compared to VT2. The lesson they took from VT2 was: “Oh, these people are going to buy any cosmetic we put out. Well let’s just make all the cosmetics paid” which is anti-player and is basically just stepping on everyone who supported them before. This makes me feel bad as a previously loyal customer, and makes me no longer loyal.
The cosmetics that have a unique model require artists and programmers to produce.
Who pays them? The aquila’s pay them(probably very little compared to the money pocketed, but it is still the aquila’s that pay them.
Color changes don’t require artists and barely any work from a programmer, there should be a lot more color variants, but new models require personnel that must be paid.
Which, long term, is ok.
But here’s the thing: We ALL already paid 40€ for the game.
For 4 barebones classes, which obviously have big chunks of code block copied over from VT2 to save time (play unchained with flamestaff in VT2 and then psyker with purgatus staff in DT, your muscle memory will immediately kick in, not a good sign), and all each with one outfit that has various unlockable levels of complexity and color patterns through gameplay.
Honestly, it’s like paying full price to get access to a demo, and then they try to entice you with a cash shop to get anything else, it’s just disgusting.
Agreed. The things you earn through penance need to be a lot better. At least let me hang all my trinkets off my belt or something.
The Veteran sets are all just reskins of the exact same set none of it seems to match properly and you look kind of like you where dressed in everyone’s hand me downs lol
VT2 released a plethora of free cosmetics for years before offering paid ones. I guess no one was paying the artists then either? Many games provide a huge amount of cosmetics in their base game.
This cannot be stressed enough: They did not release a game with a cash shop, they released a cash shop with a game round it. EVERYTHING in this game is set up in a way to artificially make it a grind, to increase your time in the game so you will be more likely to buy stuff with real money.
This holds true especially for the non-premium cosmetics: They want you to feel this way. They want you to feel that all the stuff you can get for free is lame and boring. Then, you grind for hours with random players, a large part of which will have the premium cosmetics equipped, so you will have them rubbed into your face subconciously. You’ll think “Wow, this looks really cool!” in the back of your mind. Sooner or later, you will “treat yourself to that cool new outfit you’ve always seen on other players”, and boom, they’ve already won.
The player base is basically running their advertisments for them. They just gotta sit and wait.
Where did you get the idea new maps and enemies will be free?
We may get some maps for free, also we may get some new cosmetics for free, but we most certanly will be charged for most new DLCs, Classes and Cosmetics.
Belive me, i wish i will be wrong, but im to old to be optimistic.
