The problem is, they dont want to put in that effort, emperor forbid they do it for free. The task is as easy as it was to allow trinkets, except now those trinkets affect gameplay and actually make some of the weapons funtion better.
they probably tried, but failed to finalize it within the deadline the random flashlights bayonets and the random singular holosight are remnants of the attempt of an modular gear system
Scopes would be nice, but there’s not really a need for them right now.
Even for the weapons where a scope could be argued to be more useful than the reflex sights or tower sights, there’s single-digit numbers of sightlines where a scope would actually be needed.
So would simply making the tower taller. The issues with the game’s sights is that the gun itself blocks too much of the screen whenever you ADS. That’s SIGNIFICANTLY less of an issue on options like the infantry autoguns which have comparatively tall towers.
Anyway, what I was getting at there was more that there’s not really any situations where higher magnification is all that useful. Adjustable magnifications would get around that, but I can’t see that happening tbh.
this forum is way past the point for suggesting realistic things, without FS communication, all it is, is speculation anyway.
being in the “reasonable terretory” has about the same chance to get looked into as any high sky idea
I don’t know why they’re so adamant against weapon customization. Even something as simple as scope attachments can go a long way in giving player’s some agency over their equipment’s progression which will also increase satisfaction over the system; and, most importantly, empower player choice - it’s what these games are all about: having the freedom to run whatever set you want without any silly arbitrary constraints limiting your fun. For instance, consider why so many First-Person-Melee enthusiasts swear by Vermintide 2. It’s precisely due to the simple fact that when you’ve finally reached maximum level, have all weapons unlocked, have all feats available, you’re thus free to experiment without limitations holding you back, being able to run the highest difficulty with *your * preferred set, for example.
Now contrast this to Darktide whose gear progression has been a sore point within the community ever since the game first released. Darktide’s design intent is predicated on retention above all costs. Which is a cynical way of maintaining numbers. Such icky machinations are usually reserved for games whose gameplay is subpar. Again, look at Deep Rock Galactic, the game doesn’t even have grotesque gambling tendrils weighing its equipment progression down; as a matter of fact it’s all deterministic which is ideal for these types of games.
To bring it back on topic just giving us the ability to attach scopes to weapons would go a long way in improving Darktide’s equipment conundrum.
It probably broke something they couldn’t fix in time or at all, and decided to scrap it instead of devoting any resources to redesigning or fixing it. Or optimistically they are redesigning it but keeping it on the down low since they’re concentrating on the port. But judging by previous behavior it’s probably gone forever.
I guess, I just find it weird how Vermintide 2’s biggest complaint was the RNG and Fatshark thought even moar RNG was a good replacement. They had to know this was going to cause dissatisfaction within the community.
I don’t think they did initially. There was so much pivoting and redeveloping of systems leading up to and even after release that they didn’t even run the numbers on the %s of itemisation until a bit after release. It gave off the sense that different bits of the same system was being worked on by different teams/people and none of them were talking with each other. The RNG feels like an attempt to stretch out what they had.
And now they are resource hamstrung by the Xbox port so they can’t really do any medium or large overhaul of systems. It just sounds like some serious mismanagement all around.
