OK peeps, I’ve worn my shift and caps lock to nubbins spamming requests for CHAT BLOCK already. The new game mode, Expeditions, has cooperation at its core yet we are missing an extremely important feature to facilitate text chat (the most common of chat) in-game.
IT’S TIME!
For those unfamiliar, here’s for a rundown of what Chat Block is:
In-game, when a player opens a text chat window their player character automatically holds block – similar to the auto-block while reviving players. This small but impactful feature helps provide a small window of safety from stray groaners and the like while you converse politely with your team mates
To add insult to (literal!) injury, this feature was introduced into FatShark’s previous entry Vermintide 2 but neglected from Darktide. Yes, there is a mod that does this. No, I do not consider this to be sufficient – and so do this many people:
Should the Chat Block feature be introduced into the vanilla game?
OIC. I’m dumb. Then yeah, that mod should be a base feature, dunno why fatshark seemingly unlearns things as they make the same game but slightly different every time.
I’ve been playing without mods and it’s truly night + day for Expeditions. I’ve found it really difficult to coordinate even minimally.
The odd “this way next” confirmations when things are quiet are OK, but negotiating whether or not to bail on a POI has cost me many a hitpoint. Mods: Back on.
“I need help!” is a DESPERATELY needed Comms Wheel option in Darktide, Expeditions just proves it. At this point, “Come here!”, “I need help!”, “Sorry!” and Chat Block are like, actual necessities that we’re going without at our own detriment.
The number of times I would’ve been able to actually resolve a bad situation if me or one of my Teammates could’ve simply asked for help when we didn’t have the breathing room to actually type it out…
This is the most needed comms imo, so many times i do something stupid and i really want to apologize but risk getting harassed by the 20 incoming ragers
I really like that. Especially if you can trigger it while trapped/dogged because sometimes team mates don’t cotton on immediately and need a gentle reminder. I find myself doing it often anyway in chat but a dialogue wheel would be much more seamless, and who doesn’t like more dialogue quips?
Bonus for console/controller users who find it difficult to type quickly.
