I will never understand the argument “we are rejects so therefore…”
So being a reject is a permanent state of being? Like being born a human vs. dog?
At no point do our characters in the world ever use the currency of the “extra tasks” afforded to us by Sire Melk to buy better food or things that make us look/feel better? We never do under the table favors for Hallowette in exchange for stuff that’s above our station?
No? That’s it? We’re just constantly malnourished, gaunt skeletons that rose to acolyte status inexplicably at 30?
What a silly counter argument.
You can dislike the idea of better looking characters, but trying to make it make sense like that? That’s absurd.
i mean with what ends you in the slammer or worse in 40k its a miracle only ugly people so far have been caught by the inquisition.
you´d think that amongst sheer numbers alone some more pleasing facial features would be on wanted posters but it seems not to be the case
maybe they don´t get “rejected” and redirected
i´ve seen some roam the local railroad station where the japanese “would” would still apply.
i mean they get their for “stuff” together from “services” that need at least a certain level of “would”.
Hairstyles: less asymmetry, less in the way of missing chunks, more options overall tbh, more things that fit the ‘practical haircut’ selections you see in a lot of games.
Bodies: Literally just make body types that match the one you pick at character creation, it’s not hard. It’s just transparently lazy that most cosmetics don’t do that.
Neither of these are specifically asking for ‘attractiveness’ because it’s the 41st millennium and people not being supermodels is fine and I don’t give a damn about that. The faces are fine.
It’s asking for something that specifically isn’t Meth Head Aesthetic. Because 90% of character customization is, and I object to the fact that this gets shut down under ‘oh you must be some pathetic chud who wants to coom’ stupidity rather than just…not wanting their character to only have a particular aesthetic.
The game is all over the place with this narrative though. It’s not really all that consistent. With how loose everything is, what you describe feels more like the jumping off point, but it’s not like our level 30+ characters that get praised just by passing by ship guards and crew are still considered total bums. Fine if someone wants to lean into that vibe, but not having an option to just look vaguely clean and in halfway decent physical health doesn’t seem reasonable to me. We’re not talking about being a world class mog lord (how do you do fellow kids) but rather just not looking like you’re some gutter rat.
That’s happening in Eastern Europe? Got any sources with pictures and videos so I can have a look myself? I’m very curious to learn more about this, as morbid as that may sound.
No no, I’m definitely asking for more attractiveness. There’s plenty of decent looking women in the 40k universe.
I can give you links to dozens of officially licensed 40k Art where women look normal. You’re right we don’t need supermodels. But it would be nice if I could get past character creation without feeling ‘meh’ about my character.
Gaunt has a pretty unremarkable generic male face but retains a rugged look suitable to the setting. Is he a super model? No. Does he look homeless and potentially mentally ill? Also no and that’s fine.
Big burly fella with a strong face. Super hot? To some I’m sure. Rugged and rough looking? You bet. 40k appropriate? Most definitely (he’s literally from the setting so that makes sense).
Example 3: Castor
Big manly soldier head. He’s no Brad Pitt, but he’ll do.
These are all average human faces made rugged by experience rather than the, on average, crazy faces that are also rugged we have now. We can have both. Remember that we have some pretty significant and gruesome scar options that give you plenty of ways of making even a handsome/pretty/attractive face look rugged and worn. The game won’t devolve into some skyrim nexus coomer fest just because some new faces look more or less conventionally attractive.
Using the game’s basic premise (and title by which the Dev’s address players in announcements) to explain why the look characters look the way they do is absurd?
There’s a lot of projection there that I didn’t get into at all. I didn’t argue against anything, just noted that the look described fits what we see when we look at real life people in similar situations the game presents the players with.
If people want other looks for their headcanon, great, I have no objections to including them. I’m just noting that for the premise of the story the game starts players with, a meth-head look is pretty accurate.
Sure, I don’t really have anything against that. Just pointing out that what we do have does actually fit well with the game’s canonical premise.
When you’re somewhere you can view NSFW content, do some googling on the Siege of Bakhmut, Wagner Group, Yevgeny Prigozhin, Storm Z, and Storm V.
The closest IRL thing to Grendyl’s warband and Rejects these days looks looked like this.
