Fatshark, Resist the Pressure, The Game Lives or Dies by Balance

Sharks are so caring that they say to the ubiquitous number 4: we’ll think about how to solve it. They created the problem themselves and are solving it.
They haven’t been noticed for caring. Let’s say there is one part of the map where the sound of bombers always disappears and appears at the moment of explosion, and the question is why did they remake this map? And why was the shower compartment remade there? It’s beautiful, no words, but why? Spend energy on a new map? No. Remake an old one that no one asked for? Yes. And they removed another map from the pool, what kind of miracle change will there be? It seems like they are asking for new maps, not a visual update of the old ones.
And the captains who have medic buffs, well, that’s caring, anything but a medic with a shield. If they had at least a drop of care, such “little things” would have been fixed within a month, but alas, I don’t see any progress. Cosmetics store?)
I can continue, but caring is clearly not about sharks.

So…do nothing then? That’s the solution?
I don’t feel I really need to address the other whataboutisms, I think anything I’d say is too obvious.

The reason this topic has become so contentious is because some players are reacting to having their crutch taken away, and they understand what that means for their performance.

It is not that I refuse to listen to other players. I just do not believe it makes sense to treat all feedback equally when some of it comes from players who do not have a meaningful understanding of the game’s mechanics or balance. Not all opinions are equally useful when it comes to balancing the game.

So what kind of feedback should be prioritized in balance discussions? It is the feedback from players who understand the game in depth, who can identify what is actually unbalanced, why it is a problem, and what kind of changes are needed to fix it. To be blunt, players with less than 500 hours of playtime are still effectively going through the tutorial. Their opinions are often more about personal frustration than actual game balance.

Frankly, I believe that even within Fatshark’s own development team, there are only a few people who truly understand the deeper balance of the game. So no, I am not ignoring or dismissing opinions for no reason. I am saying that when it comes to balance, only the right kind of feedback should be taken seriously.

Wich for are lower difficulties exist. It’s just very interesting, when the same people who are saying “it’s not a competitive game” also feels that it’s shamefull to play lower difficulty. What a weird paradox.

All of what you said is very well-spoken, measured, and reasonable.

Here’s why I can’t get behind you though: balancing has to be handled with care, finesse, and a degree of regularity. Something I can never see FatShark making good on. Past examples have seemed to be nothing but the opposite. They’ve been clumsy, set-it-and-forget-it broadstrokes, which almost universally overshoot or underperform the mark, causing a lot of collateral damage, they’re never communicated, and they take MONTHS to rectify.

If FatShark was willing to be more diligent and regular in their attempts at balance then I’d agree with you unreservedly. They’re not.

Well then feedback should be about Fatshark must do a better work, react faster and more often.

Instead of “reeee weee don’t touch it” should be “bae be carefull pls”

It’s not an argument why there should be no balance changes. Either way game should have been stay like on release, balance-wise.

Hopefully this gives me some credibility then

You and I both know that’ll never happen, much as we may wish it :frowning:

Nobody really disagrees with this, least of all me.

Have you met me? I say this ALL the time; I’m not shy about harping on it either because it’s beyond silly. I’ve been beating this drum for 6 months re: the especially silly and trivially rectifiable powered special activation bug after the relic blade was introduced and the underlying code refactored. I had trouble swallowing that 6 month pill, and the gaslighting on why it wasn’t fixed was even more distasteful.
The criticism FS receives on this type of overnerf/overbuff and not rectifying things in a timely manner is completely warranted and repeated quite often.

I and many others share this concern while still acknowledging something should be done to restore something resembling overall balance vs the current situation, see Reg’s weapon graph.

Well no, I have not. In fact, I don’t think we’ve ever interacted before, so, pleased to meet you.

In any event, it seems we agree on the underlying issue then at least, so that’s something.

Sorry if I gave the wrong impression, but I wasn’t referring to you, I meant the people who are review bombing on Steam…

But they will eventually. There are more weapons that are fairly balanced than not.

It’s if we are speaking about havoc specifically then if a weapon doesn’t allow you to outrun and kite infinitely and doesn’t destroy armored enemies then it’s “not viable”.

But it’s not a weapon problem it’s that game can’t rly kill you in havoc without armored blob pushing you into a corner. Attriton element almost doesn’t exist in DT.

Remove crushers from havoc and suddenly 90% of weapons will become viable.

Spam golden toughness - eat crusher’s overhead - repeat. Peak gameplay, jeez.

I sincerely hope you’re correct, but I freely admit to being a pessimist.

No worries, but thanks for the clarification! Also, sorry, I think I linked both replies into yours. My bad.

Wait nerf Power sword?? That thing is bad at best, one of the worst armour pen melee weapons in game.

Oookay, so I just tried a dueling sword for myself…

While my underlying concerns about FatShark’s cackhanded balancing shortcomings and possible negative impacts on player count remain, I can DEFINITELY see the problem with dueling sword…

Started from scratch and built one with thrust and relentless strike. I have plenty of hours in Darktide, but don’t have any with DS. I was able to dance through a random damnation despite not having played for a week.

The point is definitely made…

It’s probably will happen even if they will rework it with competence. Cause they left high mobility+high armor damage weapon with simplistic combo that you can equip on a tanky class, for half a year, or how long it’s already. People learned this is a new norm your build has no flaws and weak spots.

You have to turn it on.

… unless this is satire? Honestly can’t tell anymore.

There are a couple of extremely good reason why HellDivers 2 is doing extremely well and DarkTide is barely scraping by in terms of player count.

One of them is Nerfing Vets. Some sweaty dweeb posted an Excel sheet with numbers that were obviously manipulated because they want no other classes to be able to outperform Zealots.

Ignore thrust completely, try some of the others like precognition, riposte and agile and even uncanny strike.

Actually, the opposite is always the case. It’s the tryharder sweaters who make the most noise about having an increasingly elitist game… the game is anything but for everyone

Most players not even use forums
