Discussion on faces, hair and costumes for women in Darktide

If the ugliness is meant to be stylised like something similar Borderlands they’re not doing a good job in conveying that either.

the way i see it, the female faces in this are at bethesda levels of ugly af. it’s pretty much to the point where you start to doubt the actual art/design team because it goes beyond seeming intended, and makes you wonder if they just can’t draw females faces worth tf lol … it would kind of makes sense since the female faces look very dude-ish across the board.

I really enjoy seeing every female with the same face.
I’m going to put a hood on it anyway.
But D:

Exactly. Who cares about the faces when you’re gonna cover it with a mask, rebreather, or helmet of some sort. Maybe it was tactic of Fat Shark to make faces hideous so people would be wanting to cover that smug face with in-game cosmetic or “premium” cosmetic.

It’s not a big problem in PVE game, since mobs can’t complain player’s hitboxes don’t match the model.

There is no “lore” saying people are ugly in wh40k. Even ingame backstory says you may be wrongfully convicted, and it’s not clear how long have you spend in prison - 3 days or 10 years.

It does matter cause you give players a tool for creating characters. Either make characters with prescripted stories and suitable appearence or give some broad options and freedom. Something in between just doesn’t work, that’s why people keep complain.

Imo, would be cool if you start with bad skin and hairs, but with leveling you unlock better options since you recieve more access to inquisitorial/voidship stuff.

Love this kind of topic, in which people try really hard not to look like awkward stereotypes of gamers. But this topic is THE awkward stereotype of gamers.

vs OP’s statement

How is that THE stereotype of gamer? Noone here is asking for cleavage, high heels and lipstick. It’s about female characters actually looking female instead of recieving lazily resized male assets.

Oh and concerning the lore: 40k lore is full of attractive people - not every single human being has to be ugly to fit the setting. Noone would be hurt if we had the choice to build either or.

You know that it doesn’t change a thing what OP wrote to justify this.
You have all the rights to want what you want and ask for it in forums. But isn’t it obvious that whether you are a woman or not, this cringe topic is once again objectifying women’s body because you want to see beautiful girls with beautiful girl’s bodies in your video game ? I’m not saying you shouldn’t talk about it in video games forums, I’m just mocking it (or making fun of it ? I’m not sure what is the correct way to say this in english).

If I wanted to look at ugly fellow(s) I’ve got a mirror(s) for that.

Oh no, people prefer attractive and good looking people, such a tragedy!

Don‘t worry about it.
Just open the premium cosmetic store and buy a helmet to cover up the ugly.

It is not.

Simply talking about how something looks, does not equal objectification.
Now go troll somewhere else.

they are all from the same source… what? lol

nah thats fine. Sure theres some good looking folks in 40k no doubt, just don’t think they were on our prison ship thats all.

Just want to say that

Just destroyed any leg I had to stand on, I concede I hadn’t fully appreciated that it might be affecting peoples ability to roleplay.

It doesn’t matter cause you can go to chiurgeon and change your face completely anyway, even skin/eyes color. The question is why you can swap face but can’t make it better.

Objectification is by nature about dehumanising, so I do find it pretty ironic you’re trying to use it as a tool to dismiss people asking for options to customise a character they can more closely identify with, something that if anything is about humanising your character.

If its actually important to you, maybe don’t trivialise issues like objectification by invoking them where they are not, blanket accusations just dilute credibility.

Why wouldn’t a 21 year old soldier of the Astra militarum imprisoned for insubordination be attractive no matter the gender?

A young body shaped by healthy food and lots of physical exercise - those people tend to be rather attractive.

And it is one of the backgrounds we can choose. Just as we can choose to be a 50 year old stim addict who worked themselves almost to death before getting into trouble with the law due to religious frenzy. Someone like that would look more like the options we have available.

But we can choose the other background too - we should have more options to look like it.
