I’ve been enjoying the new map and the updated character talents, but there is one recurring pain point that keeps rearing its ugly head whenever players try to experiment with different builds and playstyles: the crafting locks.
It’s a common story. A player is enjoying the game, but their current playstyle is getting stale. They want to try using a different weapon with a different perk and blessing build, and then they spend a million dockets to get a worthy base weapon that ultimately gets bricked by Hadron and her layers of RNG. So now they need to grind more materials with their old gear that they’re sick and tired of playing with, and oftentimes just straight up stop. I’ve seen it happen to my friends. They wanted that fancy power cycler power sword but, but RNG stood resolute in their path. It’s a huge sore spot that has stonewalled any of my attempts to convince my friends to return to the game and try out the new carnival map. The first question out of their mouths is always: “have the fixed crafting yet?” and the answer is “no. Hadron still bricks everything.”
I sure hope phase 2 of your event reveals red weapons with broken locks. It’s the only thing that might bring my friends back to the game.
Exactly. Under discussed. I don’t think fatshark is aware of the issue. We haven’t seen any resolution of the core problems that were identified a year ago when fatshark shared their initial notes about Hadron and the crafting system. Hell, they’ve even repeated the green-dust problem with plasteel. Until we see a fix it’s not being talked about enough.
Its talked about all the time but since fatshark refuses to do anything and the issues arent apparent until youre well over the refund time limit most new players dont talk about it, and old players are jaded to all hell.
The RNG involved in getting a high base score item with good stat distribution is actually a lot worse than the locks. The locks are just the cherry on top of the crap cake.
It’s over discussed. So much so that we get like one or two threads a day on it. If you die in Darktide, there’s like a 99% chance that you died due to someone doing something wrong or the AI director going bonkers. The remaining 1% is on equipment rolls.
To any future posters that are new or not familiar with the situation:
The title is an ironic embellishment on the fact that despite the many discussions about the system before and after changes, it is still, to me and others, a dissatisfying placeholder heap of badly synergising subsystems covered in bandaids and that doesn’t change whether someone else thinks crafting is necessary or not, whether being able to continuously improve your gear is necessary or not, or the difference between make-do decent gear and perfect gear is that big or not.
The locks are what some people find to be the last straw, and that’s usually because it’s the thing that at the last step permanently locks a weapon to either be something you want, or something you don’t.
Oh, we’ve discussed it quite a lot actually.
It’s just Fatshark refusing to acknowledge it because having an awful crafting system somehow makes the game better?
Lock and overall horrible crafting and item acquisition system were discussed since Crafting was added to the game. Few minor improvements have been made in regard to slightly more flexible locks, and dramatic improvement to Curios’s perks. And that’s it.
With no further comments from Fatshark. “Internally discussing” and “feedback passed to devs” does not count.
Fatshar either thinks “system is fine” and “it’s vocal minority complaining”, or simply does not have a spot in their time table to address crafting issues in near future. We only have to guess since communication with Fatshark is broken long ago.
Fun fact: focusing an issue into one thread generally has the opposite effect. Only when an issue floods every channel it is addressed right away, in order to contain the problem.
Self-containing in a thread is basically silencing the issue. I’ve said it many times but FS only listens to pain.
If it isn’t loud and hurtful enough for their reputation, they won’t act on it. Docile people don’t bring change.
Crafting issue is so adamantly ignored by Fatshark. That even flooding all forum sections with new treads about crafting will do nothing, properly made, from different players, different arguments and suggestion. Sadly. They Don’t Give a Single Shark
