Customer compensation and goodwill

Some of us enjoy the game more after the grind is done. Let me fully pick my specs and let me play. The slow journey to getting that gear is my least favorite part… and seems to be for my friends as well. They won’t say it, but I think it is one reason they don’t play much at this point.

We have a new member joining the team in a couple of weeks to take on some of my other responsibilities and allow me once more to focus on community communications and being your advocate.

Very glad to hear that!

My point was pointing out that veteran players already got things out of the update without doing (practically) anything, and now we still have more things to aim for. Some people would’ve wanted to get everything without extra effort, and if the extra loot is that important to them, what would have been left to do?

I’d say the first 150 (or even less, actually) are there more to give you something every level, and to boost your item HP somewhat faster. The rest are more to still have a chance to find cosmetics, as you cannot find them in map rewards. This may be somewhat wrong, and there likely is far more thoughts behind this originally, but Hedge or someone else from the company can comment on it if they want. Getting one every three runs is still pretty fast, I’d say.

Play the game because it’s fun to play? Maybe some people play only to get the next unlock, but certainly isn’t true for everyone. The game until recently basically didn’t have unlocks, so yeah.

Play the game… I get my character max out to play the game more how I want. I don’t stop as soon as I get what I really wanted. Why bother getting it if I stop then? Less grind for me please.

That’s very good, but if managment et al are already aware of the discontent and chooses to do nothing, having more community relations will simply be a band-aid on a bigger problem.

Fun is why I play it, for sure. That’s why I haven’t been complaining about not getting more chests for things I’ve already done. They are done, and it wouldn’t have changed significantly even if I knew they were being tracked for some extra reward in some future update. At some point the new Challenges will give me (and my friends) some direction, and will likely lead me to play Pyro, BW and HS again for a while, but that’s only after I get more of them done naturally, in the course of normal play.

So why complain? You’d have gotten the items now if your activities had been tracked before, you’ll get them later if you just keep playing. Not getting them now doesn’t invalidate in any way what you have done now, and if you have achieved something before, you can achieve it now. Think of it as giving direction to your play in the future, not grinding.

That’s fine, but it doesn’t change the fact customers are upset. Addressing those customers shouldn’t make the more content customers upset, so it’s the only prudent course of action to avoid losing valuable, loyal customers and therefore money.

I’m personally not too miffed about the challenges not being tracked. I am miffed about those hundreds of commendation chests that were just wasted for no good reason, and that grinding the same amount of chests again will take significantly longer than the 500+ hours ive already invested, because of the easy first 150.

And of course everything else in the OP concerning the barely early-access nature of the launch, which really should have made the dev want to give something back to it’s customers.

@CommanderJ I love the game but im not happy with the content update, like you said a lot of cosmetics were in trailers and just 2 body cosmetics with the same skin for every career, a lot of challenges and deeds didn’t count…

The challenges for “heros” are boring, why not something like complete this map with shade only using 2h sword or complete this map with Foot knight without using your career ability. With deeds you can get the
same portrait doing recruit deeds or legend deeds, why not 2 portrait for every difficulty? 25 deeds in recruit and 50 deeds in recruit and like this with vet, champ and legend.

With mods i don’t care if are separated from the official realm i use mods to have fun, practice with the creature spawner or to try the damage of my builds.

I’m in the boat that more or less wants a small pat on the head via boxes when servers go down, etc. I understand that refunding chests or granting chests for tracked things is probably all but impossible at this point. But if things have been less than ideal since release. Add some boxes for players that have been around since X date. When something bad happens I say throw boxes at it. It will make people happier. I have seen it work for plenty of games and devs. Hey its good PR.

Side note, I’m always going to speak out against excessive grind or changes that promote more excessive grind (aka nerfs, exclusivity, etc). That does not mean I don’t like some of the challenges just to be clear. If anything it reduces grind by getting boxes along side the previous methods.

That sounds far more understandable to me. We did get one or two extra in the update (although it went quite unnoticed by most, and Hedge admitted this), but doing it more often and more easily wouldn’t go unappreciated on me either. I would also help the company’s image for many players, if not all.

Well, now that Hedge’s getting their workload reduced a bit, hopefully we will get better communication at least.

Right thats what I mean though, my income has been slowed by 2/3rds for having max level characters and due to the drop rates being utterly laughable before this patch I might as well have just set them on fire for all the good they did me.

I will admit I didn’t notice it. I must have missed a note about it also. I hope that number goes up if they give boxes in the future… say 5 or 10 sounds decent considering the random nature of reward.

seems like they are afraid to give free boxes, what would you get from 5 legend emp vaults? 1/2 red or nothing… if a player get a red will stop play the game? i don’t think so

5 Commendation chests for major troubles like the 1.0.5 blunder, and 1 or 2 for more minor or short-term inconveniences (like last night’s backend errors) sounds still reasonable to me, but considering the amount of those inconveniences lately, might end up being quite a lot in the long run. Then again, giving only few days to claim them each time (like was done on 1.1) would alleviate that somewhat, and help with only those paying attention and actually inconvenienced getting the consolation boxes.

Someone in management clearly believes that abysmal droprates keep people playing and not the other way around.

It’s how casinos operate and has been proven lucrative for quite some time now. It’s why you can’t skip the loot box animation/opening sequence because they designed it to try and addict you to getting that rare jackpot.

They’re most likely not going to change it any time soon until the “lootbox issue” hits a boiling point across the industry.

I find casino’s to be pretty disgusting places so I can’t say I’ve been pleased with the gaming industries predatory practices the past five-ten years. Hopefully we see some legislation passed on this at some point to reign it in.
