Crashing Every Single Time I Load Into a Map (Game Unplayable!)

Issue Description:
As title says, I can not play the game anymore. Ever since the last Pre-release beta patch (the one that added extra logging tools, but killed everyone’s performance, and caused more problems than good (see community complaints all over the forums)) I have been unable to even paly the game. I waited until after the launch to try again, and even after updating to the new “hotfix” patch, I still crash when loading into literally any mission.

I am able to load into the hub, and even into the training arena, but any time I load into a actual mission, it crashes as soon as it finishes “loading”. The mission briefing (cutsceen loading screen) freezes, and BOOM… crash…

I have tried Reinstalling my drivers, downgrading my drivers, Reinstalling the game, Verifying the cache, Changing literally every setting to almost every combination possible, doing community “fixes” (like the “thread workers to 1” fix for example), Recommended “temporary” fixes by you guys , Manually disabling features via the config file… Everything…

Hi @orvis25,

Your default GPU is currently set to AMD Radeon™ Graphics. Which is likely resulting in your crashes as it cannot handle the demand. Do you have another GPU that isn’t being detected?

Please check out this article:

No. I am using integrated, and have been to play/test the game for over 2 months (since its all I have)

The game ran perfectly fine before the above mentioned update that added logging tools.

I participated in the closed beta, open beta, and pre-order beta (until the patch) perfectly fine, with over 40FPS average @720p (using FSR).

Suddenly, after the mentioned Logging tool update, the game entered, and has remained in an unplayable state.

A SIGNIFICANT part of the community is complaining about this patch killing performance and/or breaking the game entirely into unplayable (or near) states due to memory leaks and crashing.

This is not my computer GPU, this is the game.

Same Problem, I have 100% Crash Rate Whenever i enter a Mission.

This is an ALPHA, who did the Stability Testing ? APES ?

What is your system specs?

You should add your logs too (help find the issue for devs)

So i updated to the new AMD drivers today (Driver version 22.11.2, after doing a safe mode DDU of 22.11.1) and also updated to the new version of the game that came out today (1.0.13) , however I still crash every single time I load into a map mission. I can still load into the hub, psy arena, all shops, cutscenes, etc,… Just not any actual games (mission maps).

I did not have any of these problems in the closed beta, open beta, or pre-order beta (up until the patch a day before it ended, the one that added monitoring tools).

Here is additional logs and such.

On a separate note since I got no reply to my prior statement (in reply to what you said regarding my issue), Is this being passed on @FatsharkLev ?

By some miracle, I managed to not only load into a game, but also not crash.
Down side, I crashed the next game though, and now am back to crashing every time… I had a one in 40 attempts successful load in lucky game.

Figured id share the log. Maybe you guys can compare the crash ones and this working one and find the issue faster/easier.

Managed to randomly (after about 18 crashes) to load into a level, walked about 20 feet, and then it crashed… But at least I loaded into a level for a few seconds this time…

Again, managed to get into one game after about 30 consecutive crashes. This time however, i got to play the entire mission through, even loading back into the hub. I did however crash loading into the second mission… and am back to consecutive crashes loading into missions.

Hi @orvis25,

Each log shows that you’re running into a Deadlock type crash - which are difficult to troubleshoot.

Your GPU being below minimum requirements shouldn’t outright prevent you from playing, but it will very likely result in more instability than usual.

Firstly, I recommend ensuring you have the latest Windows updates, BIOS update and GPU drivers installed.

We’re working on many crash fixes and overall stability improvements. In the mean time, I suggest running through our general crash solutions, and checking after our next hotfix whether you still run into similar crashes.

Thanks for reply @FatsharkLev .

I have my Laptop Bios, GPU drivers, chipset drivers and windows (11) updates all updated to the newest versions.

I know my GPU is bellow Minimum, which is why I play at 720p With FSR upscaling (rendering at at about 480p actual), which allowed me (in the past, when game was more stable) to play at 40(ish) FPS. The update right before the pre-order beta ended broke something, as I was able to play the closed beta, open beta and most of the pre-order beta just fine.

Even if its a difficult issue to pin down, I hope my logs and information will be passed on to help find the bugs causing these issues.

I will wait for the next update, as this version of the game (1.0.13 as of writing) is unplayable. I will report back in future if the next update fixes/changes anything, or is the issue persists.

@FatsharkLev
Just updated the game to the 1.0.14 hotfix.
I loaded into the hub as normal, can enter all stores and even load into the arena, but as soon as i try to load into a mission, it crashes. It crashes even faster now. I used to at least get the the end point of the loading screen before it crashes, now it just shows the first like 10 frames and BOOM, crash.

This time I am getting “out of memory” errors, which I have never gotten before.

Unfortunately the game still has no texture settings options in game (something i requested since the closed beta)

@FatsharkLev, Is there a command I can manually add to the settings file to decrease the texture resolution, to help with testing if this is the issue?

@FatsharkLev any input?

@orvis25, apologies for the delayed reply! This slipped through the net.

I’ve just messaged a couple of our developers to see if they have any input or advice here. Due to the late time of day now, it’ll likely be tomorrow that I get any response.

I’ll update you when I hear back from them.

No worries, I know your busy.
That’s why I waited a day and a half before pinging you again :slight_smile:

Cheers,
hope to get some type of settings code to lower texture resolution/quality to reduce memory use and test if the error is persistent.

@FatsharkLev

Any update on:

  1. a way to manually force textures into a lower resolution via the settings file?
    (Add in a command/code)
  2. any feedback about my constant crashing issues from the dev team.

Cheers.

Hi @orvis25,

I’m still waiting to hear back from developers. I’ve pinged them an additional time and will keep chasing.

Apologies for the delay on this, and thank you for your continued patience.

@orvis25, a developer has suggested the following tests to see if there’s any improvements -

  • Try running without FSR enabled
  • Alternative test, to try FSR 1 instead of FSR 2

@FatsharkLev
Disabling FSR entirely and running the game at native 720p seemed to help me at least load into a game.

I managed to get through one game (I joined in the last 20% of a mission), but I still got a memory crash on the second game (within first 40% of mission). So I am still unable to basically complete any mission completely through without crashing.

Completely disabling FSR has also put my game into un-playable framerates/frametimes (12 fps average, frametime in the 85ms+ range) compared to (back in the beta’s with FSR) about 35fps and in the mid 30’s for frametime.

Further advice?
Is there a settings file command/code I can add to force textures into lower resolutions? The game still seems to load ultra high resolution textures, even with everything set to low.

@orvis25 A few developers have discussed this. Feedback has been that you’re running below minimum specs, and although you played before, this was essentially quite lucky.

Minimum specs require a dedicated GPU with at least 4GB of GPU memory, and 8GB RAM. As you’re using an integrated GPU this means you’re sharing GPU memory with RAM, so you would need to have at least 12GB of RAM, but with memory left over for your OS and other things. So, 16GB+ RAM is likely needed to run the game with an integrated GPU. If you have below this, it could explain the ‘out of memory’ crashes.

As for a command/code to force textures - there isn’t anything we can use to do this right now. However, the setting for Texture Resolution should be returning in our next update. So, when this is implemented this is something you can use to hopefully improve things.
