Crash that kills signal to monitor and forces hard restart of PC

I originally thought my GPU was bricked in an earlier post and after an RMA and another friend experiencing the same crash I’m unsure if it’s really just the GPU at fault. No BSOD or anything, just a black screen and I can still hear other audio coming from Windows.

That sounds more like a driver issue to be honest. Maybe the game is causing some type of driver instability, idk, but a black screen but still sound usually indicates the driver’s crashed and can’t recover until you hard reboot the PC.

Try updating the gpu driver, and your motherboards chipset drivers and see if it happens again.

(The motherboard chipset update fixed an issue I had in a different game a few years back).

It’s most likely there is a driver or hardware instability at play in this situation. Please see:

Thank you, I just updated my mobo BIOS and will see if it helps with any related crash.

There were some good reasons for updating AMD BIOS not long ago, and don’t forget the chipset drivers (if you have a higher end mobo make a USB stick FlashBack before BIOS).
FWIW I have the same 5900x and 3080 on Win11 and found it (anecdotally) more stable w/ RT off, 6 worker threads and windowed mode; YMMV.

P.S. Reset your graphics drivers. Simply press the Windows Key, plus Shift, Ctrl, and B at the same time. You will hear a beep and your screen will flash quickly. This indicates your graphics drivers have been reset.
