I think they would count as xbox players
Youāre absolutely right, as I read it back my argument was not great and I didnāt have any evidence, I apologize. I dug a bit and compared some global Steam achievements to those found on TrueAchievements to see how the Xbox community fares at different challenges. I think with this rough data, you could at least surmise there is a skill gap between a controller and a keyboard/ mouse. Iām not saying console players are worse, just that they are limited by the system and makes them a slight drain on the party in higher difficulty content.
| Column 1 | Column 2 | Column 3 |
|---|---|---|
| Achievement (what it tests) | Steam global % | Xbox (TrueAchievements) % |
| On Overwatch ā complete a Malice+ mission as Sharpshooter without taking melee damage (aim/positioning, awareness) | 7.6% Steam Community | 1.37% TrueAchievements |
| Flawless Execution ā 10 missions in a row on Malice+ without going down (survivability/consistency) | 4.7% Steam Community | 1.16% TrueAchievements |
| Something In Your Eye ā Ogryn grenade box eye-shot on Corruptor (precision/knowledge) | 9.7% Steam Community | 2.16% TrueAchievements |
| Buying Time ā Preacher stun a sniper from >40m (range estimation/utility) | 10.3% Steam Community | 2.40% TrueAchievements |
| Inquisitorial Legend ā complete each mission type on Heresy+ (breadth at high difficulty) | 20.0% Steam Community | 3.86% TrueAchievements |
Darktide is on gamepass which means a bunch of people boot up the game once play for about an hour and then never touches the game again, itās a pattern with all games that are on gamepass. I however have all achievements.
you could compare, if we were talking about the same thing.
GamePass on PC is generally the way to test a game⦠so the stats reflect that. A lot of the players have just downloaded the game to test it. And a lot stopped it.
I did it. I tested on GP and have bought it on Steam. I had not unlocked many penancesā¦
Just chiming in to bash controllers as an input device over keyboards
(just kidding Iām actually here to bash FS and I love controllers)
All things being equal itās a disadvantage. It can be overcome and you can be a great player regardless, and having a keyboard doesnāt make you instantly good at the game. There are still inherent drawbacks to using controller in this type of game (let alone in this game) and imo itās a little facetious to pretend otherwise, especially since the main counter argument is exceptional players (which supports the stereotype). Maybe when gyro aiming becomes more commonplace the divide will shrink. Anyways.
Having extremely limited keybinding options is easily remedied by FS and itās egregious they donāt have the respect for their console-and-otherwise-using-controllers players enough to provide sophisticated key re-binding. Hate to bring up HD2 but they have great binding options, providing access to long-press and double-tap gives controllers a lot more versatility.
But, letās start with a simple re-bind scheme shall we? Sprint on stick click is a deal-breaker for me when it comes to ass-mite treatment regimes ![]()
Console players are without a doubt, in general, more casual. Also headshots with a mouse are easier and I agree the gap CAN be somewhat bridged (iv done it) its harder to be good with a controller on the Tide games.
However, the size of playerbase on PC compared to Console means I actually come across waaaaay more terrible PC players. Most of my block list is PC players. Most players I block are people who left after going down and a few are players completely out of their depth (like the āoh dearā game I posted recently from youtube)
While these things are true, console players, imo, are not a problem.
However, crossplay should be opt-outable just on principle.
Then they need fing improve their bots already!
This shiatās become even more apparent recently due to the fact that they fakked up their matchmaking system. Itās currently broken and has been for weeks. It wonāt backfill missions thus forcing you to play with the gameās useless fakking bots. Who are now even more worthless after years of balancing, enemy additions and other changes to the game. They canāt even carry their weight on Malice anymore let alone higher difficulties.
Fatshart is just fing lazy and does not give a shiat.
Does this mod work? (for Gamepass on PC)
Remap Controller at Warhammer 40,000: Darktide Nexus - Mods and community
With this mod you can:
- Simplify your gameplay by binding every action to the A button!
- Increase the difficulty of your gameplay by unbinding half of the buttons!
- Fully customize the layout of your controller so that you can play the game the way you want!
ā¦and much more!

That could be exactly what I need, ty! I will try it.
Edit:
Im also gonna try Hybrid Sprint mod and see if it helps, because sometimes I find myself just ducking without sliding.
I dont slide everywhere, I feel ridiculous doing that, but attempting sliding while powering a weapon or for example towards a dog Iv just pushed to close a gap, only to duck in place, really sucks.
I use Hybrid Sprint for QOL but Iāve also started using this

A while ago I was messing around with playing DT through the Meta Quest (using virtual desktop for a giant panoramic screen). For controller input I used Switch Controllers setup with Gyro Aim + Flick Stick. I wasnāt particularly good at the game, but it was pretty awesome from an immersion standpoint.
All this to say that why Gyro Aiming and Flick Stick controls arenāt natively supported by more games is beyond me. Itās so much freaking better than default controller inputs and the possible skill ceiling is much, much higher. If you got good with it, outside of the very tippy top FPS players, you could probably be on equal footing as KB+M users.
I totally agree on this, even though crossplay is a feature, there should be a way to opt out of it.
Console players have a HUGE disadvantage, when it come to things like doing a 180 turn, and making a quick shot, to kill say a mutant or a trapper. Playing with a controller is a lot different from PC gaming, even with the aim assists etc.
Please make an option for this, it would be greatly appreciated by a LOT of people.
Sincerely,
dub
Crossplay should always be an optional feature.
It isnāt anyoneās fault that 3 major companies have been battling for content control for the last 40 years and at no point, should that be on the head of the gamers.
Even with developers being able to port to alternate systems, the major console companies are extreme jerks about dealing with porting out, the actual code base, restrictions, and distribution of the final product.
The paradigm of catering to consoles is also absurd (such as these crappy interfaces weāve had to deal with for the last decade) when the whole product is built on a PC and it literally is a line of code to detect the system itself, and change the interface; IT TAKES NOTHING to have a tailored interface for consoles other than a small bit of code.
So the whole thing about forcing everyone to use the same interface when PC users have 108+ keys, mice with 12+ buttons⦠is silly and shows ineptitude.
I like having the population from the consoles being able to play, but I will say this over the last several years we have a ton of console players who;
- Lack full understanding on the mechanics of the games they play; they run in and mash buttons
- Lack basic communication skills be it text (sometimes a fault of the game itself) and rarely use voice.
- Lack knowledge of the finer points of the games they play:
- Typically are unaware of hidden puzzles
- Often just blindly run at whatever pop-up objective there is and activate / interact without understanding that sometimes, there are consequences. (this was true in 2007 with PC in L4D for example, but over time thatās changed)
- Arenāt often aware that doing things a certain way, yields more rewards.
- Because of proprietary derp-system control, console players take forever to load into all of these games. Iāve sat and watched it over the years, itās bad. Every single game where crossplay is active they take upwards of 5 minutes to sync up and load in.
In short what you really have here, is us trying to manage the results of giant corporations battling for market supremacy and none of them, actually care about the player let alone the end product.
I would like to see this feature in the game.
Console players simply canāt do a 180 turn and pop a trapper etc in the head, even with aim assist, so they have a disadvantage, and I can understand (specially on the higher difficulties) why someone would like to have only PC players in their strike team.
Please give the people the option to choose, it doesnāt hurt anyone.
It should also be possible for console players to find other console player lobbies.
Itās only fair to give people a choice.
