Comm-Link Delay

dont use twitch , am i missing something or can you really only see what is currently on at this time on that schedule… i would think being able to look at other times would be the point of a schedule.

anyway nm no patch so dont really matter when i see the commlink will try again tommorow

Just throwing this out there, but if there’s some place that players need to go to see the news/information about Darktide during the Skulls Event, that announcement probably warrants a small forum/reddit/discord post itself, and not be buried 250+ posts into a week old thread.

Pretty sure the patch will come “next week”.

It’s become a total joke at this point. It’s 99% obvious that they are working on the console version and just do the minimum effort required to provide ‘something’ that looks like content to keep the pc players appeased.

Well, it’s failing…

They will probably save the vod. Looks like IGN is streaming it on youtube as well (also most likely saved).

They have updated the depot recently after temporary update. I hope it is coming soon.

imagine if they just tried a bit of communication like. “ok we’ve hit the minimum state of the game we think is acceptable. We will begin work in earnest on the xbox release which will slow down new content for a time. We have a small team working on content and fixes for PC Darktide but don’t expect anything too huge” and we’d all be like

‘Well, it sucks but it makes sense.’ instead it seems like corpo thinks they can bamboozle us in the year of our holy emperor two thousand and twenty three.

If they announce the console release date, as many predict, it will sort of affirm that they have indeed been working on the console port this whole time (as many suspect and as their past development track record would suggest).

So at this point their cagey communications just come across as superfluous and tone-deaf.

More broadly, Fatshark is seemingly incapable of understanding how honesty and transparency can build community goodwill. Communities will cut developers a ton of slack if the devs just level with them. But when devs string the community along with a stream of B.S. half-answers that goodwill gets burned up real quick.

To clarify - we are working on Xbox, but this announcement will not be related to that.

I understand the lack of transparency in communications is a sore point right now. While turning things around, we are prioritising managing the communities expectations, so are not necessarily in a position to share answers to all the questions we receive right now. If I have information I can communicate on any of the top communities issues I will be sure to do so!

Hopefully once we are back on track, we will be able to communicate a bit more clearly, and it’s definitely a style of communication I would like to work towards.

While I’m sure this is not your fault catfish, waiting until literally the day of the comms post to say that you’re pushing it back after having pushed it back the last time is kind of hilarious when you read what you just wrote

But words very similar to these have been repeated for years and years by FatShark. “Just give us a little time to get settled, and the comms will get better! We aim to be super transparent!”

Guess what, new game, same problems. It’s not about managing expectations, it’s about being willing to be transparent at all. And being willing to actually tell the truth, rather than openly lie and pretend it isn’t an obvious lie. FatShark has serious and deep rooted issues not only with communication, they have deep rooted issues when it comes to telling the truth at all.

Also it’s not lost on me that “…I would like to work towards” is a completely meaningless statement.

Honest question - what does this mean to you all at Fatshark?

I think the community feels like they are limbo on a lot of issues because we don’t have any sense of where YOU (as in Fatshark overall, not you specifically) actually want to go with this game? What does “being back on track” even mean? Are you close to that point?

All the community has to go on, frankly, are bunch of older design blogs/diaries form before release that talk about all the great things that will be in Darktide (deeper customization, player agency in progression, “live service” levels of content drops, new classes every quarter, etc.). Clearly the delivered game doesn’t match most of what was said earlier, and anyone who plays the game for a handful of hours can see that. And then when the community askes for changes that would put the game in line with those earlier expectations we get responses like “that wouldn’t match the design intent.”

Well, what’s the design intent? What does having the game on track even mean anymore?

As someone that manages public infrastructure projects and does “in real-life community engagement” over matters that affect people’s livelihoods and wellbeing, I am confident in saying that transparency and honesty are critical to building trust and buy-in. There isn’t a debate to be had about how this works. And the only time PR and communications efforts feel pressure to hide or spin things is when there are uncomfortable truths in play that leaders don’t want out in the open. Which, frankly, is all to say that Fatshark is either hiding an uncomfortable truth or they are just incompetent. I honestly don’t think Fatshark is incompetent, but you tell us

Apologies for being terse, but this is kinda where we’re at.

Maybe I’m misunderstanding what a comm link is.

A calm link is just a quick summary of what they’re working on, and what they’re expecting to have done, for the upcoming patch? It would be understood that if they run into a technical issue then they wouldn’t actually be able to output all the features that they’re working on.

But what I don’t understand is how there could be a technical issue with the calm link itself you seem to be able to technically be able to communicate with the community via the forums. So why can’t fat shark communicate to you what it is that they’re working on for the upcoming patch?

This is actually a pretty good start.
I can’t make this not sound condescending every time I try to rephrase it, but it was meant in a genuine fashion.

Just telling us “yes we’re doing XYZ. And we do know you have a bunch of concerns” is a good point to start. I work in Product. I am aware that you may not have solutions for every problem but do care about the problems and at least have them loosely prioritized for addressing. Just knowing that compared to hearing radio silence for a month is very helpful.

I get that, but unfortunately I didn’t get any forward notice really. I would have preferred to set expectations earlier if I was able!

So C isn’t Console, neither is it a class (Most likely, as we know no weapon are scheduled for Patch), so the 2 runner up are the Chaos Spawn and the Combat Drug

I hope they are paying you a lot for all the unnecessary stress that you have to take on for management’s poor planning.

I hope you pass on that this kind of behavio, that your bosses are responsible for, is actively causing harm to their bottom line. If I were the owner I would be looking for someone to fire. And if this is all coming down from the owner, ai would tell them that they are doing. A great job following Elon Musk & Twitter on the path of an efficient business model,

Ah, fish rots from the head. No wonder obese megalodon is such a nurgle fan.

Only an unemployed person would assume that

Jokes aside, it’s a pretty common situation in game dev when different departments lack communication. Especially when we’re talking about PR/Marketing vs Development.

I mean, that is hard to define right now - especially as lots has changed since launch. Either through technical restraints or a change in direction.

To me personally it would be once we have tackled some of the prominent outstanding features, e.g Progression, Xbox, Crossplay, Classes, Content etc. That doesn’t mean that we won’t be able to communicate more transparently before all of those issues are addressed though.

I understand this reply doesn’t provide the answers you are seeking right now. I will make sure it’s a priority to have more dev blogs going forward, to give you all more insight as to what is going on behind the scenes as they will be able to give you far more detailed explanations than I can.
