I don’t understand this argument. Have you never played a From Soft game? The average player character is… definitely not attractive. It’s not the only game series either where players take great joy in creating the most hideous creation they can whether to create a funny juxtaposition against the setting, or just for laughs.
I agree everyone looks for physical attractiveness in romantic partner to at least some extent, but I strongly disagree that’s what everyone looks for in their player character. At least that’s not the experience I’ve had across numerous game communities.

Speedrunners are not the average character. And people usually hit random for comedic value to see what abomination they can get, not because they think it looks good. I dont think we should have comedically ugly characters purely for the initial shock humor of it.

Play any game that has a character creator and I will gurantee you people either self-insert an idealized version of themselves or an attractive character. I’ve played MMOs for years and everyone makes their character attractive or badass in their eyes. No one ever makes a character they intend on playing for hours and hours and make them ugly on purpose.

I don’t play MMOs so I’m sure that’s a different crowd to what I’m used to. What you’re describing is something I’ve observed in Monster Hunter, but frankly seeing everyone run around as a bikini girl in that game is horribly immersion breaking and just off putting degeneracy generally. I’m very happy to play a game where that isn’t an option. Not suggesting that bikini girls is what you’re advocating for, but I am personally happy to have games here and there that offer something at the far opposite end of the spectrum.
Not every game, even those that share character creation as a feature, needs to cater to the same audience. FS has been clear ugly mofos is their design intent, and it also seems there are plenty of people who are fine with/actively enjoy that. You can continue arguing minutiae with people here but not sure what your end goal is TBH.

Immersion breaking. For what reason? If a girl has her legs exposed and you go “wow, this game was made for and by degenerates.” Then youre unironically the problem because youre indirectly saying anytime a woman shows any part of her body is bad.

These basic players are telling you we don’t care about what you care about, and we like and respect the choices FS made. Or are you trying to paint us as outliers because we didn’t immediately go to “I’m not attracted to any of these people!”

Yeah I’m not a big fan of the trend among western game devs that characters look more and more ugly year after year, it’s a fantasy and I want my character to look fantastic. I don’t want fuggin real life simulation in my fantasy. At the very least give a choise, I have nothing against people playing hideous chars, just give me an option.

Come on that is a laughable strawman. We’re not talking about having some leg exposed or characters being generically pretty (I’ve got no issue with that in that setting). We’re talking about a game where you primarily hunt dinosaurs in a quasi steampunk/fantasy setting, in often harsh environments like deserts or snowy mountains, and you’re genuinely asking how a large portion of the player base running around as buxom super models in literal bikinis could be immersion breaking?
If you’re gonna be this disingenuous and obtuse then there’s really no discussion to be had here. You’re just set on what you think everybody else’s issue is and refuse to listen to any perspective outside yourself.

I seem to recall you called me arrogant to start with. I believe that fits your definition for “oh this isn’t going so well for me, let’s start insulting people” behavior.
That makes your position moderately less cringeworthy.
My question mark is that I don’t know if it’s official or not. My point is that, going back to the very beginnings of 40k, it’s not meant to be attractive or sexy. Because it was, perversely, meant for kids and young adults. So you can see people being decapitated with a chainsaw as a sword, but don’t show any cleavage or parents won’t let them buy it. The only things overtly attractive in the standard sense tend to either be alien (so bad) or daemon (worse.)
So yes, in my view, that stuff is the outlier. And that’s before you even get to the fan generated 40k stuff which, unsurprisingly, sexualizes the setting in a way it’s never sexualized itself. So was that actual official 40k art?
To me, sex isn’t part of the 40k setting. I mean that literally and figuratively. The Emperor doesn’t care what’s between your legs, just what’s in your hands. It’s highly egalitarian. Everyone fights. Everyone gets hurt. Everyone dies. Life is hard. The people are hard. If people had looks, they used them to not end up in places like Tertium.
That’s the nice part about 40k to me compared to virtually every other fantasy and sci-fi setting out there…those issues take a backseat. That’s what makes the setting uniquely 40k. In a universe this brutal all that stuff doesn’t matter, no one is taking the time to obsess about it.
Was it a bold choice to really double down on that? Yep. Did it obviously lose them some people? Yep. But I respect the hell out of them for doing it and I want them to stick to their guns, and their vision of the setting. What is your answer for that, I’m curious? Do you, as a woman, know better than the people creating their own art? Would you not call that arrogant?
The fact this is what the armour looks like now tells me you have no idea what youre talking about and just parroting the old “lol every female wears a bikini” without actually researching for yourself.

I played MHW for over 1000 hours and watched an awful lot of video content on it to boot, but sure you’re free to think everyone but you has no idea what they’re talking about and their experiences are invalid. That’s entirely consistent with the tone you’ve used to engage everyone else in this thread.
Anyway I’m also more than happy to end arguments here though I am going to clarify first since your response massively misrepresents me, whether willful or not. I don’t have an issue with the armour designs in the game generally, but there are a number of special event layered armours or even potentially paid cosmetics that are basically just a bikini, unlike any of the images you posted. They turned up disproportionately often. I won’t apologise for calling these people degenerates, they were unquestionably 99% men (plenty of evidence for this based on youtubers who had these kinds of characters) who can’t separate their libido from any other aspect of their life. That is degeneracy in a nutshell.
Anyway back to the actual topic, again FS has made it clear wall to wall uggers is their design intent and that they won’t be changing this, so I’m sorry but you’re likely not going to be accommodated here. For what it’s worth I do get your general point about it being regressive to try and make female characters more masculine in appearance to depict them as strong. I agree with and applaud that general point. I don’t think that’s what’s going on here though. Pretty much everyone just looks very rough. I don’t see an issue with that as an aesthetic choice.
