I believe you are both correct, and if I may add, when we had between 2k and 4k concurrent players, the gamers who remained were the core audience who had played for 500-1000+ hours (I have 1161 hours).
Some argue that it will improve as new players get more experience, but I disagree. I believe that the only way it will improve is if we return to the core playerbase numbers.
Which is unsustainable from a business sense, and I don’t want to gatekeep, but those were happier times.
Having to carry and try to drag clueless rejects through the missions on Auric Damnation Hi-STG or Maelstrom gets old fast.
I know that Im repeating myself. I’ve said the same thing before. I just wanted to express my thoughts once more.
But thats something that will also happen with newer steam players who f**k up your matches. Best way would be to add something like a solo challenge mission or something like that in order to play auric missions. By that you would make sure that only players with a certain skillset would join those matches. After that its not a “crossplay problem” anymore and all of us could be happy that the playernumbers have increased
Or, like Vermintide’s playerbase, keep it niche rather than trying to mainstream Darktide, which won’t work anyhow because the gameloop is boring unless you genuinely love the gameplay, which I do.
Pc controller player here. I regularly out perform(ed) PC players on damnation. Especially with the revamped aim assist and controller options. You don’t know what you are talking about
People suck.
They suck with both controller methods.
They don’t have the time nor desire to learn the game mechanics.
A lot of people are new to the game still and are playing above their skill
I don’t mean to imply that console peasants aren’t inferior to us aristocratic PC players with our blue-green silicone blood. However I play regularly with one player who regularly uses a controller on PC and he does just fine as well as some other players I play with who use very unique setups. Also XBAWKS players can use a mouse and keyboard if they want. PC Players can also have terrible settings for their mice, for example, and terrible aim as a consequence. I’ve seen dark things man, dark dark things.
Suffice it to say the real problem is not so much the medium but just the low skill we are encountering as a consequence of the influx of new players. My recommendations is to either accept that you are the designated rookie carry or find a group to play with. Strengthen thy back, o ye veteran. The noobs cometh.
People act like you have to flick and instant 180 all match to play this game, simply not true. I play controller on steam since beta, lvl +320 on my main vet. I regularly outperform my lobby as well (except my brother on void psyker this patch…lol), and play T5 auric. I don’t even play on a high sensitivity.
This game is 1000% viable on controller, despite FS’s best effort to make it difficult. Enemies are either stationary or move in a straight line towards you, super easy to hit. Listening to sound cues let’s you know where everything is. Push is 360 degrees. A sliver of situational awareness and prioritizing goes a long way. The only enemy that is weird to track is when dogs are bugging out, but even then it’s not bad. Headshots are very easy, especially with revolver.
People being bad is simply a product of them being new. Plenty of terrible players existed before cross-play. They’ll get better.
To be fair there does seem to be a higher-number-better attitude out there among PC players sometimes when it comes to mouse sensitivity. Tracking the mouse a mere 1.5cm for a full 360 spin is not the way to score hits.
Well yes, people who are good are good. But KB+M outside if niche situations is superior.
And overwhelming majority of non-tide players are bad and think this is FPS shooter and suck in melee.
Now give those bad players even worse controls and they throw match after match - it must suck for them even more than their team.
Now where this players goes? play other game
BUT IF they had their OWN game with their OWN balance (like ALL FPS have, and those games are easier than tide) they could stay for longer.
Id really be interested in a showcase of that outperforming controller pov. Youre constanly flicking and swiping your cam around, while sliding in 360°, after which you need to reposition to face whatever situation is happening + the vertical plain. Im not even talking about aim.
they want us to see all the lovely cosmetics they can buy with the bonus aquillas after not having to sit through the awful launch and subsequent months and months of nonsense
I’m a mediocre player - I can hold my own in vanilla damnation. I can’t carry it. Now I regularly see games fail because I’m the last man standing. Not used to that and seldom up to the task. So now I can’t play damnation anymore as I used to before the update and that’s a pitty as my ressource influx drained and I have even less to through into crafting slot machine.
I want to disagree with OP but I can’t - I really wish to be able to opt out of crossplay. MS players can - it’s not fair I can’t. This is a very simple truth.
I usually proposed to designate heresy as the farming difficulty to reserve damnation for challenge seekers. With forced crossplay I’d even suggest giving full loot on malice as I guess that is the difficulty the avarage consolero can master - and by this I don’t mean to imply that there aren’t controler users who are able to outperform me. There certainly are - I just think that a huge chunk of them can’t - not because of my skill but because mouse is the superior input method. And giving how tedious item prgression is it is actually unfair to withhold maximum ressources from a large part of the console players.
And lets not derail this into console vs pc bullsht. I dont think this is a debate. Sure there will be bad players on pc too. And there might be a few controller players that can hold their own on maelstorm missions somehow.
I dont get why they can opt out and we cant. It made sense when there were like 50 gamepass players and they were playing with bots all the time. But they have xbox players now so I think we should be able to opt out as steam players.
I put my controller setting on “exponential” with a high turn rate and the slider a little low.
What this means is:
My cursor moves much slow when my joypad moves only a little bit.
My cursor moves extremely fast when I push it all the way out.
These settings make the cursor do almost exactly what I want whenever I want. I can turn insanely fast by pulling the joystick farther out and I can be way more precise with just moving it a little bit.
This also isn’t new. Cod has been doing it for a decade
I’m honestly confused as heck about the statements that the influx of new players is ruining stuff because as casual trash? I’m doing better than ever. Vanilla damnation feels workable and heresy feels easy, we rarely get wipes and I am absolutely not clutching (save for one VERY memorable mission as stealth zealot). I’m not saying it doesn’t exist, but I’ve either not encountered this problem, or am just along for the ride with the new tide of equally bad casual trash, all of whom are collectively good enough to crush Damnation.
My brother in christ COD cross play is only working due to the MASSIVE amount of aim assist console players get. It got to a point where PC people switched to kbm or opted out because the aim assist was too strong to not play with a controller. I wouldn’t exactly use COD as a good example here.
