1800 hours later I FINALLY experienced a person talking about the scoreboard

When I play hive scum, I let em know they got left in the dust in the “medipack deployed” category. 25 on my last game. No big deal..

Public humiliation?
Good idea!

Tends to happen when you make an inflammatory post like this.

Last we discussed the progression system, I thought you were all about players having access to the full suite of talents, weapons, and blessings if they’d like to start out that way. A broad mandatory tutorial goes against that logic. One of the reasons I like the story-driven progression system is that it serves as a beginner tutorial, and slowly introduces the player to the game mechanics, enemy types, and each weapon one at a time as they master them. This way, long before new players have access to Aurics or Havoc, etc. they should have a solid foundational experience from leveling a character to 30 and unlocking all blessings.

Now, I can definitely see how it might be a bit too grindy to have to do that for every new character, but for at least the first time players make a character from a career they’ve never used, I think it’s good they go through the process of leveling and unlocking blessings.

I would use the word humiliation, but thats certainly a way to think of it!

nice to have you as my personal scribe in case I should forget something :squinting_face_with_tongue:

but yes, some need to be put to tutorials lest they go blindly into the game.

and for a first timer it’s a much better option to see actual fight pattern than the story snippets that prepare you for nothing.

still not exclusive to give people a full fledged character afterwards, we all had to pass the intro in beta times, how many “minutes” would you figure would it take a skilled player to pass the boss and enemy pattern tutorial?

5? 10?

those in need should spent the hour before hopping into the game.

again, my thx mr scribe

ps: my intent in short:

make people learn the tools first before giving full access to em afterwards

Topping the scoreboard doesn’t require a specific playstyle, just playing well and not dying is enough. So the main argument against it makes no sense. I think HD2 has a nice scoreboard as you can just not open it and skip after a mission.

I’m with you in most parts but that would require a premade I’m not keen on cultivating and would make playing with randoms neigh impossible.

besides some aspects do add spice to a match, just tilting to one extreme is exhausting

Everyone has bad games or has to start somewhere. It is clearly oberservable when someone is not up to par, but still trying, or actively ruining/getting carried and then starts whinging how “toxic scoreboard players” are opressing them by showing hard data up to their faces.

I will repeat this over and over again: “back in the days” such behavior was laughed at and leeching/ruining was considered toxic, now having data proving player’s terrible performance is toxic apparently.

I got a little over 1.7k hours in the game, as far as i can recall i only remember one guy mentioning the scoreboard mod in-game, and it was because he was curious about his own performance in the run we just had.

on the one hand a positive example of someone seeking objective reflection of his performance,

on the other hand sad since so few seek out such data that could help improve in many ways.

So far whenever we lost in pubs they guy with the most trash (but not elite and/special) kills and nowhere close to the damage of others (ironic, isnt it?) was always the loudest, exactly because they had scoreboard.
I couldn’t care less to be honest, you can tell quicky which player pulls their weight anyway.

Herein lies the fundamental issue with VT/DT scoreboard. Players use the scoreboard as proof they’re good/others are bad. In the early days of VT2 people posted their green circles as fundamental truths as to why slayer was OP, or why FK was weak. For some it was treated as carved in stone, message from on high, not to be doubted. I suspect this is why it was removed from DT after VT2.

As a display of how incendiary the scoreboard is, whoever makes posts like this continue to demonstrate that whatever the merits or flaws of the scoreboard it is clearly a subject that rapidly degenerates into name calling, derision, sneering superiority and outright insults, not something any company is likely to want to make official.

The mere fact that this is still being bandied about as some way of measuring anything with such a myriad of factors influencing each run is puzzling. It could be argued that each run is unique, never to be repeated with the same players, spawns, weapons, skill trees, weapon stats and so on.

A private scoreboard where you could compete against yourself might be good, but, there’s a hundred thousand unique factors for every run. The data is muddy water basically and people peer into it as some pool of revalation giving divine truth.

oddly and more often than not, one or more replied with “nt”

so far I haven’t had one of these encounters.

someone complaining about pace sure, but then again little going for the one dude lagging behind the whole time, so disregarded immediately by the rest.

and even these were pretty rare.

It looks to me like the topic has devolved back in to the old “scoreboard is toxic” trope

I should have put some money on a bet at the bookies, woulda make a few pennies because they would have laughed at me and said “the odds are extremely high sir”.

We had one guy who used it to talk down to people. He was laughed out of the room so to speak.

maybe they were not aware it was a competition and they would be judged for not beating their team, on seeing that things were handled safely they instead of just wasting everyone’s time competing they sat in reserve waiting to see where needed. strange opinion that in a 4 player co op but maybe they were focused on the win not on personal glory.

And so if they are just bad? what does the scoreboard help or show of use? your still in the game with them , i mean obviously your not going to start kicking people for not hitting a special/min kill criteria

there’s a reductive ad hom attack for the “pro scoreboard” people to if your not going to give our point of view any respect, why should we think of you as anything but

“a bunch of losers who don’t have the chops to actually compete in a pvp game so they have to come to a co op game because they can only win if they are the only ones competing.”

Would that be helpful?

no logic explanation , no research , no source just personal assumption stated as fact and personal insults.

this is the key problem with your view, the game of darktide presents a finite amount of enemies to kill , your not side by side in a firing range with infinte targets , so any kills you get are kills they cant , but they may still of been perfectly capable of. so yes you are competing with your team because you need to beat them to the kill because in your words.
