1800 hours later I FINALLY experienced a person talking about the scoreboard

I had 6k hours on VT2 and saw it once or twice.

Blocked both people and moved on.

word of the day  and i dont disagree with anything you said but how many people reach that bar? more or less than get lead astray?

but it comes down to this

has the scoreboard really told you anything you didnt know after your first fight with the first carapace enemy? if the sound of plinking and the enemies refusal to die hasnt yet clued you in what are the odds a rather out of context score is going to mean anything to you?

well you tell me what did that teach you? you saying you didnt know before seeing the scoreboard? it is a shock to you that your in the top few percentile?

ok , so how will that inform you going forward?

yeah i know its a silly example its just pointing out people judge themselves ont eh numbers go up but that isnt always a sign of thngs going well, things going badly make number go up , things going well make number go down.

really this and everything else is just making my point. you dont view it as a co-op game the AI isnt your enemy its a resource the team is your competition.

Imagine what it is for the average person playing a 4player co-op to find you in their team?

everything you say is why i and many others do not want a scoreboard in DT it is to avoid precisely this behaviour or to at least not encourage it.

it does make me wonder why your not playing a pvp game, surely that would actually give you a test of your abilities that wasnt so trivial (your topping the scores 85% of the time after all)

so far I found none complaining about a good carry either.

average in turn should ponder the choice of difficulty as well in my opinion, or find themselves in an environment not suited for their abilities.

a coop game? yes.

we run towards the same exit and shoot the same enemies in the meantime.

a team game? no.

how in the world would one truly play in unison with strangers of varying skills and motivation?

some push to their max, some lollygag.

neither is of my concern when doing what I can to win.

trusted friends, honed in skill over countless hours and blindly being an extending part of each other, sure THATS a team.

you wouldn’t call a rag tag group stumbling out of a local bar a “soccer team” if they were in the mood to play ball, would you?

age mainly and the fact that I did for nearly 30 years on an almost daily basis.

at one point one must concede bodily shortcomings, but the fire to “be the best” ceases when the last breath is drawn, no sooner.

and it makes for a better player each in the long run in comparison to go easy on each other and not raising the bar ever upwards.

sure one could win every match in the same boring dog trotting way, but where’s the fun and ambition in that ?

that by steadily increasing the gap between the others and myself I further improve in efficiency.

and no, it doesn’t just revolve around snacking clusters of enemies, it’s a whole picture of objectives done, players picked up, until the current version not playing well with scum ammo picked and wasted and of course damage and kills in a range often times exceeding by a 2x or more factor.

with scum in particular it helps fine tuning my melee build, although I got a really good advice today by a very proficient player ( thanks @Brad9191) I’ve yet to test if it suits my playstyle

not necessarily, hence my example of a good race against equal peer.

last week had a good run with a skilled scum player, his ranged against my melee.

the match wasn’t a “problem”, the AI of little threat, yet the match was more fun than some carries as I could improve my melee quite a bit after being put to the test.

a test I personally embrace and not shy away from

Yes. A simple example is boss damage. It is not a definitive performance metric, but the game does a poor job of communicating how much you are actually contributing in these encounters. Some visibility there would provide useful feedback.

Another example is damage taken, blocking, or mitigation (dodging, corruption etc). None of these are metrics in isolation, but they can still highlight patterns in play. Seeing that you consistently take excessive damage, fail to block, or overextend can be a clear signal that there is room to improve.

These kinds of indicators are not about competition or proving skill. They are about giving players feedback that helps them understand what is and is not working.

But it’s better than nothing at all and it can be improved on over time. All the stats are in the game, rest assured. It’s just a matter of accurately compiling them, not an impossible task by any means.

bosses though are the one encounter that come unmodded with a healthbar.

some thunderhammer etc taking 30%+ in one chunk is pretty visible to me

as well as other classes getting a boss down under 10 sec

I cant put in to words how lame it is when I want a good old “FOH ME EMPRAHHH!” shout and my guy goes “for atoma”.

We get it, you’re good. You don’t have to restate your résumé every message. If all the skill-bragging on this forum adds up to 100%, you’re behind 85%, maybe even 95% of it

oh so only the “opposite opinion” is ok cause it makes people “feel good"?

I put mine where I see fit.

You are absolutely right. I was thinking more about the average team, where everyone is chipping in on the boss. In those cases, a bit more feedback on contribution would be useful for self-improvement rather than competition. but 100% a thunderhammer or krak will show them they do a good chunk of damage

What is your argument against a scoreboard?

I’m not talking about your opinion on what the table does or doesn’t show. I’m simply tired of reading how intensely you praise yourself in almost every single post. Feel free to dismiss this as low-skill salt; I’ll probably just look for an option on this forum to hide posts from a specific user

game should make a much broader tutorial mandatory instead of the cinematic intro.

on its own its fine for setting the tone and atmosphere, after it no-one’s the wiser.

if they must add carrot to the stick add beginners penances to the meat grinder and have them test various blessings/perks on weapons that are provided there outside the players arsenal so they don’t have to craft each of one to begin with.

make em test against unyielding, point out their weakspots and have certain boss attack pattern chose-able(?) by default.

so they learn the 3 punch plogryn or tailsweep of the slug and of all things the tentacle grab of chaos spawn

just put me on your block list then ?

does me a favor just as well :+1:

besides, a bit hard to argue for or against the benefit of a scoreboard if not pointing out numbers :man_shrugging:

people argue its worthless, I bring examples for the opposite.

make of that what you will, I got my footage to put my money where my mouth is :man_shrugging:

edit:

side note: having gone through several chemo therapies this year and facing another 3 week perma IV session that leaves most muscles pretty much in atrophy, I damn sure take pride in what I’m still capable of doing afterwards.

puts life in a distinctly different perspective so “screw humble”, I grab life by the throat and enjoy my hobbies to the max (and the max of my abilities)

ignore the “sob story” part, just a bit of context why “humble is out of stock”

I think I’ve heard it mentioned twice in my 2,300 hours. Last time was over 1000 hours ago I’m sure.

I did exactly that. That said, I sincerely wish you strength and success in dealing with your illness, and the best of luck in the game

Put the Scoreboard in the Hub (Note my suggestion was before Havoc, so just move it to the other side)

Only time there is/has been talk about scoreboard is when playing with friends on voice chat.
Also no other player has said anything during 3000+ hours in game about it.

I will also not say anything about it to anyone, except friends in the same match at the end when we see how things went. And it’s a very short discussion usually about how the damage done was spread between us.

If I’ve played with new players I’ve sometimes commented that if they like the game and want to get more out of it that “have a look at mods for QoL improvements” and nothing more.
