I take note about veteran… I have difficulties to find something that can works well with this class tbh.
About the zealot, I spend my time in melee (when I can cause if the team wants to stay at range, melee alone far away with shooters all other the place is the bad idea).
Actually, I wonder more about replacing my +1 wound with a +3 stamina than adding more toughness.
And I don’t like critics builds… I run it just for grinding grimoire in malice and lower difficulties.
I was comparing toughness regen to +5% toughness/+5% hp, not perks to blessings.
I never got one-hit killed by a sniper, unless I was wounded/corrupted/otherwise low hp with Until Death on cooldown.
The only problem with running +1 wound curio I have is that you assume someone will pick you up, and I hate to rely on other players. I’d rather just not go down at all.
If you are running crit build: toughness
If you are running anything else: health
On the topic of snipers, I’m starting to think that they deal 50% of your hp in a single shot, regardless of toughness. Could be mistaken… But having 30 touhgness like 260 has never done anything to prevent that damage… (Curio could help though)
Makes sense. Toughness regen seems to only work for cohesion regen, so yeah, not worth it IMO.
If you are NOT running Holy Revenant, you will want more toughness.
Snipers deal 1225 toughness damage plus 125 HP damage. My numbers may be off but it’s something like that.
You should try again, mate. On damnation I run 3x thoughness curios (perk and blessing) for a total of 330 toughness on my Veteran and it feels broken.
I’d argue crit build or no barely matters, holy rev vs TWBS is the biggest decider. I never run crit build, always run toughness
As stated higher up in this thread, snipers simply have a 10x damage multiplier against Toughness, so even cutting through 300 Toughness only uses up 30 of the shot’s damage. With max toughness curios and unwavering focus Vet can probably block 90+% of their damage with just toughness without any sniper resist perks but for other mere mortal classes toughness is simply no real defence against them. Again part of why I think sniper resist is practically the best damage resist perk. Really takes a lot of the bite out when a pesky sniper catches you out or the servers pull a “no U” on your attempt to dodge.
That’s another part I would agree with.
Corruption Resist has turned out to be surprisingly important. Just as often as not on Zealot I don’t get to use the Healing Terminal because there’s too few uses, and no matter how I slice it on Zealot,
I am most likely to survive out of the group even if I’m low health too.
But what will hurt me is corruption (Not talking Grim here). Since one healing kit will bring the entire party up… unless I’ve got a ton of corruption.
So Health, Gunner Resist, and Corruption Resist have turned out to be the most valuable for me in higher difficulties.
It is fascinating how damnation devotees differ on what would seem like most obvious things. I never used gunner resist or corruption resist on any class, and compleated a few 5+ with grims.
IMHO flat +5% hp/toughness followed by sniper resist and block efficiency are the most valuable curio perks in the game. Sure you can dodge a sniper, when you see or hear it. Sometimes you sprint somewhere thinking there was no enemy there a second ago so you should be fine… puff, HP gone. Dodge this.
Yeah my personal belive has also been that the more flat HP/Toughness you have the better. Been mainly aiming for stuff like block reduction / stamina regen after that.
It probably says more about the difficulty of the game or how lacking of real importance most secondary stats have.
I have still been surviving just fine even when taking that occasional sniper shot. I’m also honestly suprised that corruption resist is found to be so useful when i personally seem to get 90% of mine from grims and the rest from derping with beast of nurgles slime.
You hear a sound.
The only time I can’t dodge is when I am in middle of a horde and let me surprised and I cannot move (and so dodge).
I am caught more times by trappers cause the sound plays, I try to dodge but the trapper launch his net 2 seconds later (second sound)… and sometimes, I get caught. Also this sound is shorter than the one of the sniper.
Well not for me… 10hp or 5 toughness won’t change the dice… and the chances to get it on 3 curios (except if it is your priority) is really tiny.
I think this right there proves how great this game is. You can play almost whatever at the highest difficulty and crush it.
Inspired by this discussion I spent 30+ minutes listening to “Splendid. Splendid. It is done.” and went full toughness on my Zealot. And it feels rock solid out of the box.
Dude, use the mod done for that!
It can do the work for you.
You choose the Tier you want (normally a T4) and the perk you hunt for and you launch it… it find it for you.
On Damnation you run across entire boards where you’ll be looking at 60+ shooters. And it will be multi-layered. I have never spent the time counting them but it will be an az ton of them. You charge the first group, get them into melee only to discover there’s another layer of them after that who are pelting you while you’re meleeing them plus the other ones in the first group spread all across that field that you couldn’t get into melee all of which are shooting at you.
If you move to the second group then with your ult, you’ll discover another layer behind them too… and another layer… etc.
They don’t just throw a bunch at you… they OVERKILL it and you’ll be going GEEZ… think you needed to throw any more gunners at us?
I run into that situation much more frequently than a problematic sniper. Those I can usually avoid or lob a stun grenade at them long enough to reposition. Entire boards of Shooters are much more problematic and common and more spread out from one end of the area to the other.
Corruption resist I explained why in my last post.
You know gunner resist does nothing for normal shooters yeah? It literally only affects gunner elites and Reapers, which I find to be easily the least threatening ranged enemies.
As long as gunner resist does nothing for normal shooters and shotgunners it feels pretty worthless to me TBH.
Enemy fire/poxburster…etc. can remove however much toughness you have instantly, ult spam(crit refund) can regen toughness instantly.
There is very little in-between if you’re playing properly(and not facetanking shots).
Those can’t remove full hp instantly, at least not directly.
Then there is the likes of Beast of Nurgle which does almost entirely corruption damage.
HP also counteracts some of the grimoire corruption to make sure you keep above 1 wound. (or two, if you have 2 hp 1 wound trinkets)
With crit build zealot the ult can just be spammed and it resets almost instantly in a horde when you have weapons with good cleave. While having that constant multiplicative 50% toughness DR(on base 100 it means it’s effectively same amount as base veteran) means losing it all through normal damage(like enemy ranged attacks) is unlikely. The usual problem is dumb teammate shooting the burster you’re pushing, dumb flamer user making it difficult to see which fire on the ground is from the enemy…etc.
Probably only trashhammer users stack toughness because they can’t afford to spam ult to regen toughness and they rely on facetanking with Thy Wrath Be Swift just to get in range(not that they can get much used out of holy revenant in case of hordes), plus very bad hordekilling(bad damage cleave/attackspeed - also why holy revenant isn’t great) on trashhammer - very slow toughness regen from killing enemies.
Disagree all you want but a stray sniper shot led into you by “allies”(or just fail to dodge, maybe someone detonated a burster…etc. nearby so you’re unable to dodge, because you can be shot in mid air) can easily send you to 0 hp.
If that 20% resist means not triggering the passive, that’s a very significant difference.
That’s not something stamina regen…etc. can help you avoid(duh, since dodge doesn’t need it; neither does push). Not that it should be taken over stamina regen, because you don’t have a choice - rng screws you and that’s that.
