They definitely have a plan around all this. I think the community reception on it all is what’s got them shook.
For me, I dislike the core systems they already have. Bolting more onto it won’t particularly fix anything more than being a “content” bandaid because the foundation or root cause of the player unfriendliness is still there.
There’s definitely things I really don’t like, and if I was sure that what we have is what we’re gonna get I wouldn’t even be visiting the forums anymore, let alone signing into the game.
However, it’s possible that there are features already in the pipeline which are meant to smooth over some of these hated features, so I’m waiting to see how that goes before I write it all off. I love FPS, I love 40k and I love(d) VT2. There’s a lot of reasons for me to keep playing underneath all the BS, they just need to be able to come to the forefront.
For example, the supposed boon vendor. There a chance (admittedly, a very low one) that it’ll use in-game currency instead of aquilas, which would potentially alleviate some of the issues around progession siloing and all that entails. There’s also a chance they really will look at all the negative feedback and make smaller changes to existing systems to take the edge off some of the hated features, such as adding some hotkeys to the hub.
Anyway, like I said, my hopes aren’t high, but I’m not writing it off until I know.
Yeah, there was some vestigial code in some files hinting at a docket refresh for the Armoury, but it doesn’t really address the design issues with the armoury system in the first place due to how items are designed, etc. etc. I’m not writing the game off completely because there are parts of it I do enjoy, and still have a few friends playing, but so many of the non-mission related systems saps my enjoyment so much when I try to interact with it.
The only explanation for this now is that there’s FOR SURE a p2w model coming…
If anyone is expecting a ‘Hello Games’ response and subsequent action, they are delusional. This is someone’s cash cow and they are gonna milk it to the end. Expect a vague, non-committal, and placating announcement. Then follow it up with business as usual.
I want to give them the benefit of the doubt, but goodwill isn’t infinite… Fool me once…
I wouldn’t be surprised if the new classes and weapons were paid and accidentally way stronger than the ones that come with the base game.
Wouldn’t be the first time.
I do hope that isn’t the case, but it’s pretty common with this sort of game.
OP is spot on.
Fatshark needs to understand two things.
1 - Honesty is a target, not a set of constraints within which to maneuver.
2 - The dedicated playerbase can smell BS.
If the Community Update is full of ‘technically true’ statements that dance around the key issues and misrepresent the situation then I’m uninstalling. I’ve already given this game too much attention.
Honesty and transparency would be the best actions Fatshark could take right now, in order to gain back some of player goodwill they’ve spoiled… but I doubt we’ll be getting that, knowing Fatshark’s previous comments and interviews.

This is how Fatshark operates and have always operated… Never take their statements as anything but corporate PR crap.
With the state of the servers, the crashing and the bugs, this is flawed too.
Not on a design level maybe, but on a practical level, it is.
Absolutely, though presumably it isn’t designed to crash and lag, or have servers poo themselves regularly. It needs fixing for sure. IMO the bigger issue are the systems that have been designed to be horrific experiences, on purpose.
At this point i’m honestly curious if we get anything at all this week.
Holy crap just give us an update already! Whoever is managing the Darktide team I hate them with a passion.
There’s probably not much that’d be safe to say right now. We’ve been told that they’re working through the pain points, considering what they might be able to do about them, and prioritising those actions.
Given how deeply embedded a lot of these pain points are into the game’s “design intent”, they do need to be careful about what they promise.
what I’m most afraid of is the mobile style boosters, apparently the codes already exist in the game its just a matter of time for them to enable this, tho currently the codes doesnt provide whether these boosters are bought with real money or not.
I think they’ll probably be real-money only, unfortunately. I’d love to be wrong though.
I think making them real-money only fits with the design and tuning of the progression systems. That is; It looks an awful lot like they’re using the old “make the grind suck so people spend real money to speed it up” strategy.
Unfortunately, the entire reason they’re delaying an announcement is because they know the news will pick it up.
That’s why they’ve been so silent. They watched 343 and learned that if they’re careful with how they communicate with us, the gaming journalists will continue to praise the game for a whole year even if it’s a floundering, mismanaged, frustrating mess, and the community as a whole is massively unhappy.
It’s grossly unfortunate. They really arent interested in communicating with us, which is why they haven’t outside of wishy washy statements. They’re interested in dodging a negative news spiral because they know that the only people who will accept their game as is vs. as advertised are the people who will come here and tell them they’ve messed up and/or are lying about it.
You’re probably right. All we can do is let them know how we feel, and keep calling them out on the BS. At least until so many give up on the game that it’s pointless and cannot be salvaged.
For as much crap as CDPR got for Cyberpunk 2077, the game was in a far more playable and complete state than Darktide… I played on PS4 (one of the LEAST stable platforms) and aside from the frequent crashes, terrible framerate and random amusing glitches, I was able to actually get through the game. Yeah, the fixes were nice and appreciated and started moving the game closer to what people thought was promised, but the game was at least “complete”.
Add to this that they were actually able to launch on multiple platforms at the same time and effectively update and patch as needed, we’re in a very different siguation.
Darktide is supposed to be a live service game. It’s a multiplayer horde shooter. The point is supposed to be replayability. In the current state, there’s not much value to playing the game once you’re at 30 (aside from hoping to get a lucky roll from the Armoury, Melk or the lousy “Gifts”.
