Wrack & Ruin now applies 4 stacks of SB. It is downright BUSTED now. I’m able to apply 12 stacks in less than a second, which kills 99% of these riflemen and elite shooters nearly instantly.
Even if you are a staff user (why) I suggest you try it
Unfortunately, no, what is BUSTED right now is the Autopistol with pinning fire and its interaction where +power effects from stagger are buffing completely unrelated soulblaze stacks.
WHEN pinning fire no longer buffs the power of unrelated DOTs it will no longer be particularly useful.
I’ve enjoyed some of the weird interactions between DoT effects and power increases myself, though I haven’t tried pinning fire. I’ve been using Unstable Power on a Force Sword with standard Ascendant Blaze build, and it’s neat to be able to blast some baddies with my Purgatus staff and then swap at high peril to kill them just a tad faster.
That being said, I don’t really use Wrack and Ruin either. Giving up 36% warp resistance is way too costly to my Purgatus uptime.
Kind of hard to follow because I usually like input breakdowns and showing feats used.
I assume you’re using Ascendant Blaze to keep stacking more SB on warp deaths (and the feat that gives CDR on elite kills), otherwise I don’t know how you’re immediately getting 12 stacks of SB if it’s 4 from Wrack & Ruin and 4 from a single ability dump.
Ah okay. So my immediate thought now is that this isn’t as busted as you make it seem. On the tin, 12 instantaneous stacks is a lot, but this is a hypothetical situation created in the meat grinder.
Obviously you could have even made it 16 stacks, but in actual scenarios in missions you’re rarely ever going to get really good setup like this on account of teammates activating patrols (and shooters/gunners scattering), already being shot at/attacked by other enemies that would delay setup, etc.
Plus the 10% BB proc is very difficult to rely on. You can reliably force it with high firerate guns (autopistol/recon las) but you could end up in a situation where you have to kill a mutie or other specialist or end up proc’ing on a non-elite because of bullet spread, things like that.
Plus every operative has that power fantasy moment where multiple things in your build all do something at the same time and instantly kill a group of enemies. I feel like psyker has the least amount of opportunities and most of them are just kinda difficult to line up like this consistently.
I also wanna throw in that psyker is still really squishy and has terrible toughness regen opportunities compared to everyone else right now.
Interesting parroting of what other people have said.
It has nothing to do with coherency regeneration, though it is similar. It won’t work if you just took damage like coherency Regeneration, but you don’t need to be in anyone’s coherency to use it.
You can be by yourself and when at 5 stacks it will heal your toughness pretty quickly.
Try it if you ever get it.
(Edit)
As for not taking damage to take advantage of it, Psyker ult and dodge exist
Must be a matter of taste. On s Vet who can heal on ult? Maybe. On a Psyker who needs warpcharge to heal? 100% worth it. I’m rarely forced to take cover and BB like before I got it
Not to derail the original point of this thread but:
It’s nice but 3 perfectly rolled curios and a very specific blessing—that only one of the guns they have access to has—doesn’t necessarily address the operative-side issue of them having really bad toughness regen options.
Veteran can now have 95% ranged damage toughness reduction in Volley Fire. They have an infinitely stacking feat that gives them 25% immediate toughness and 25% regenerating toughness on specialist/elite kills.
Zealot’s Chastise immediately gives them 50% of their toughness back, on top of a very consistent 5%/s or toughness damage reduction on crit. They can also just heal themselves back to full HP reliably when they want to play around that.
Ogryn can have over 70% damage resistance consistently, have a raw +100% toughness regen in coherency, or get back massive chunks of toughness from blessings and feats just from attacking on any of their melee weapons and plenty of options exist on their ranged weapons, too.
Psyker has… 30% over 5 seconds from a BB kill. It works, but it’s not good. 10% from warp kills using the mk5 sword is arguably their best toughness regen setup operative-wise.
You clearly have a bias toward the autopistol which is valid (I do too because of how strong it is now), but it’s kind of dismissing wider issues by presenting niche solutions.
The only time I really need toughness is when I’m getting shot to bits, which is exactly when the blessing doesn’t work. It’s not really a big deal to heal somewhat faster when the situation is mostly safe anyway, or in a situation where you might as well be meleeing the enemies.
For a ‘unique’ T4 blessing it fails completely, and is just a ‘might be nice to have’ rather than the lifesaver the description pretends that it is.
It just gives another example of how broken interactions between blessings and talents can be. The issue with autopistol and Pinning Fire was pointed out before. This doesn’t invalide the W&R complaints I personally like W&R, without all this broken mechanics meta-gaming, but with recent buffs to few other talents, its niche at best. It’s an interesting option with Kinetic Barrage, Wildfire, if you like using elites and specials as SB spreaders and are looking for BB heavy build. Is it optimal or comparable in damage to other builds, without abusing Pinning Fire? Nope.
Pinning fire is busted. Even compared to slaughterer it is in its own league. It is on a ranged weapon, which is always a stronger and safer option than melee. It goes up to 100% power rather than 75%. And it is much easier to trigger 5 stacks of pinning (shoot something 5 times/use ult), than slaughterer (kill 5 things). It is easily the strongest blessing in the game, and if you don’t think it is going to see a balance pass you’re in for a sad shock. I suspect they are holding off on the nerf bat until they decide what to do about blessing locks though, as there are going to be a ton of salty players when their crutch blessing is wrecked.
