Worst Experience in Darktide?

I have not really had too many bad experiences considering my playtime, but i remember two.

One was a loner/stealth zealot on Power Matrix that was just speed running without killing anything while activating every spawn on the map and left me and the other two players to deal with whatever enemies he agroed.

While i was annoyed by his lack of contribution to the run, i was kinda enjoying having to fight all this stuff and figured he would end up fighting when we got to the first event so i did not try to kick him. But when we finally caught up to him he decided to just stand on a box out of attack range while me an the other players were doing the event, so we ended up kicking him.

My second one was in a group with two less experienced players and a knife zealot, i felt the run was going well, we had good enough pace but i was also making sure the two newer players were keeping up while the zealot was kinda rushing it and dying when he got overwhelmed.

Eventually we finished the run and the zealot must have been annoyed because he was fuming in chat asking us why we were wasting time and going so slow, called us some less than savory things and told us to make better builds, which i found kinda ironic since he spent 1/3 of the run dead.

All in all, not to egregious considering i got like 1.6k hours in the game.

My worst experience was on the map where you have to kill the captain at the train yard at the end. A troll player spawned in at that mid fight and just stayed there.

Me and the other player got to the end but couldn’t use the elevator as he was just staying in one spot killing any dogs or trappers that got to him. It was a late match on the mission board so no new players would spawn, only bots.

He didn’t respond to any text and just avoided hounds and trappers and stayed there. Tried kicking but because we had a bot with us I don’t think we could finish the vote.

I think I just left the game running and did some other stuff until he was gone because I’m stubborn and didn’t want the troll to win so beat him at his own game then blocked him afterwards.

Edit: forgot to say that the guy had the skulls frame and I think that was before the penance nerf…so he was a long time player. That made it much worse imo.

Maybe not the worst, but just now - I needed diamantine to complete Melk contracts for Ogryn so I thought, let’s do some nice and relaxing auric missions.
Quick Play – low visibility sniper gauntlet. Oh…

Ogryn, ogryn, zealot and vet.
So… Let’s start running everywhere! Let’s leave mob shooters, so they can plink at the Ogryn toughness. Let’s leave behind marked gunners, so there is nowhere to fall back to. Yeah.

I admit - I’m not the best ogryn, don’t know when too plant the shield (except DH or some monstrosities) - I avoid it because unless my ass is in the wall there will be always something behind me, or it’s a que for a trapper to appear with nurglings choir. But seriously.

Maybe I’m getting weird habits from Havoc, maybe I still don’t understand how to play ogryn, but I’m dead set on doing things slow and smooth.

Could I be better? Oh, Emperor Yes. Planting shield in the fire was not good idea (I was trying to cover said vet from 3 gunners while he picked up other ogryn and I didn’t notice it was getting toasty below my fingers, must have been on the edge of fire), which lead to my death (and other ogryn’s too). Remember – instead of “move! fire” is better to wait and then lecture ogryn about not planting shield in the fire).

I also had two other tard moments, but relatively small - if I was playing vet I would try to mitigate those instead of lecturing ogryn about planting shield WHEN THERE ARE SPECIALISTS AROUND.

Should stealth vet go kark himself? Definitely.
“Leave, you and your ogryn friend”
No! Out of spite I’m gonna play. Except I’ve muted him.

Guy got blown up by burster - died and left on his own taking rushing zealot with him.
Apparently we were to noobish to play with us.

We’ve got 2 brand new Vets by the 3/4 of the map and we finished missions without further complication or deaths. Oh, and without being surrounded every karking moment.

I’m just writing that because with all those “low level players” topics I wanna see if it was someone from forum or not.

I think I posted that story in a different thread in the comments but gl finding it.

The tl;dr is: one guy didn’t want anyone else to take grims and I told him: “that’s too bad, I still need them.”
So then he rushed ahead to find the first, pick it up and then discard it. The same guy was terrible at the game and kept insulting me and the other guy that told him off. Eventually I muted him.

Me and a 2nd guy were really annoyed at this idiot that joined a mission with grims to then try to dictate anyone else not pick them up. We tried to kick the guy and didn’t rescue him but the 3rd guy didn’t participate.

So I had to run ahead, get the 2nd grim and then the 1st guy tried to grief as hard as he could to make me lose the grim. Blow up barrels, take heals, not fight along side me, everything you can think of. Luckily for me, he was much worse and I too good for those strats to work but it was still insanely annoying to have to carry such a massive d!ckhead.

In the end, I kept the book and didn’t get into extract until this POS was kicked.
After a few minutes, the 3rd guy agreed and we kicked him right at the end.

I think I posted this in a “we need VT2s mission end timer back” - thread and I posted that story as a reason for why we shouldn’t.

Every player void of self awareness that plays on difficulties far beyond anything they’re capable of is always my worst experience.

With Xmas new players and PS5 release. A lot of new players jumping into Auric. Which is what I don’t understand when regular T5 would get them orange weapon anyway.

Maybe it’s penance related or they think it yields so much more plasteel.

It is time to just give T4 orange weapon reward so people aren’t pushing themselves beyond their means and enjoy the game at difficulty they are comfortable with and yield same reward without dipping into T5 or above.

So you’re stuck in a place where you either do regular T5 because you can carry or you re-matchmake Auric until you see right platform and true level on team. Auric Maelstrom is done for as full of Auric Survivor chasers so there is a lot more down, quitting than other difficulties.

So it’s T5 Auric, re-match make til you see right team. hub_hotkey_menus mod is god send to get into menus quick without needing to run around terminals.

The reliable alternative is official discord, which is very solid experience but sometimes you want to jump in and play without having to organise a team first.

Scoreboard should be native because it gives a player reflection on self performance. They will start to think Auric is easy then realise who did heavy lifting. Anyone can hang back and pad out horde kill count, but really it is the one taking out elites, crushers, disablers, priority targets etc.

If scoreboard is considered “toxic”. Easy, then make it only show to player once group disbanded.

You’ll notice with true level mod. A lot of new players and few really high level account players. But hardly in the mid tier, it is like they all the middle players quit the game. The game is riding on new players and long time players are more rare or simply quit.

Out of the thousands of matches I’ve played, I can only think of a handful that have been negative experiences.

One time, I’m pretty sure a guy was using mods to get visual indications of relative special locations…

But truthfully, the few negative experiences I’ve had have almost all been the usual stunted loser bigots, like in most online games.

No scoreboard, is the same thing as hidden MMR in other games.
Comparison is the thief of joy and you’d rather not be honest with your playerbase when it comes to their inadequacies. If you can make them think they are better than they actually are, they feel good / better about themselves.

If you show a bad player their inadequacy, they won’t enjoy the game as much because they can’t lie to themselves about how good they think they are. Now they have proof for exactly how good they actually are.

The only time I’ve heard people say that they think they aren’t good enough was in havoc when I needed to solo clutch and this decent player had to spectate. That’s when he realized how he likely couldn’t pull of what he was seeing me pull of and he felt inadequate.

I told him he’s more than good enough for what we’re playing, which was true imo, but that didn’t stop him from leaving after the failed mission by saying that he needs to get better.

He took the right lesson with him and the right kind of motivation but I bet it didn’t feel too great to see someone play better, compare yourself to that and then think you’re holding that team back. Doesn’t matter if that’s true or not, you feel that way in either case.

Im not the one making 2 year old posts about getting rekt by a barrel i dont even remember that guy i just found it funny he posted a screenshot with my name in it

party finder, plain and simple.

some idiot flippin his lid is background noise at most.

given the random nature of well… randoms i’ve seen my fair share of “stupid”, but those interactions are just that:

fools putting their deficits on display and getting agitated at the face of their own failures.

thats no water off my back, chances are i beat the age-class of his father back in the days of unreal tournament and quake 3 to the point some quit the game for good after beating them 100 : -3

whats more there to proof?
in general i carry reliably in auric maelstrom, get in a few good clutches as well.
nothing a random dude throwing a hissy fit could call into question by high pitched chihuahua noises.

oh and having others muted on default is also a temendous boon.

NEVER and i mean never could a random voice chat have saved the run when it usually comes after the :poop: hits the fan .

short, precise, honest and rude callouts with my gaming buddy in ADVANCE got value throughout the match, random gibberish is playint the blame game more often than not.

at the sight of matches going south i switch into overdrive, unpleasant voices on top is at most a negative distraction.

bonus round :

never :joy:

Votekick was in, but there were 2 of them. Steam friends ofc, and they kept trying to defend their actions on Reddit with brand new accounts that wouldn’t let them post.

this is ridiculous on so many levels, dude lost every bit of credibility he might have had up to this point.

in essence, planting without pinning a daemonhost is a sign of utter defeat and the aknowledgement you’ve lost control and rely on a hail mary.

shield is an effective tool gathering and keeping the aggro in an active manner.
kite, draw, reposition etc all the while you goat gunners into melee.

a plant is the opposite of good encounter control, in essence giving up on any and all mobility.

the fact another player would “need” such a scenario to even proceed is the confession of total lack of movement skill and scenario awareness.

if a situation got you into a corner with the only “option” left being a shield plant most likely the whole team fkked up to let it come this far and usually it cant be salvaged anyways.

in all the 800+ matches uploaded i had 1(one) attempt of corner planting with gunners/reapers/bulwarks and crushers pinning me in, dropping a medpack under my 4ss.

on came a grenade flying and set it on fire.

what did save the run was a bot replacing some alt+f4 model player, picked me up and charge was refreshed.

my mistake? commit to the corner without checking the cooldown of my ult.

lesson learned? use ult primarely to maneuver instead of squeezing in that tiny amount of extra damage.

good trade in the long run if you ask me :+1:

In DT to date it has to be 6 months ago when I was doing the smelter factory finale with pubs (they were all lvl 40-80 iirc). I was on a psyker with a ranged build not made for clutch. After starting the finale, I spent the first 5+ minutes tagging the objectives and paving the way there and back over and over, still prioritizing sticking with the team only to watch the lot of them pointlessly fight the endless horde, fail, and die.

From that point on it took a good 15 minutes or so of rezzing the team 3 times total while with no exaggeration soloing 100% of every single step of every objective from start to finish. The others never even made the attempt to move to help, but just stayed to fight where I rezzed them & died over and over.

The only thing I had time to say in all this was something like “focus objectives plz”, plus the tags ofc. So I never antagonized the team in any way, just accepted it for what it was. We all start new after all.

But after all that when I was finally done and we finished, one of them put a long angry rant in the chat about how I sucked and everything was my fault. That I should’ve stuck with the team… I mean I wasted a good 5-10 minutes and 3 full-team rezzes total doing just that, desperately clearing the way for them to help them move and do the mission. All to see them completely ignore it every time.

I’ve never blocked someone faster or more angrily than I did that person. One of the most absurd combinations of shameless, narcissistic, ignorant, inept as all heck, stupid, and toxic all packaged into one I’ve seen online in a long, long time.

Some stealth zealot decided in 2nd half of mission of power matrix to go full speedrun and open/aggro across the map. Killed off 2 team mates as he would simply stealth past horde/crushers leaving the mess behind.

This is why we need hard segments where team must gather before allowing next doors to be opened.

Yea well I run 3x +3 stamina and 3x CDR dash zealot. After the 2 team mates left I thought screw it under normal circumstances I would just leave but I did the same to him. I let myself get damaged and rinse the med station from 4 charges to 0 in 10 secs. Opened the next door and pulled everything I could back to him and double dashed away to let him get downed. I got hit over edge by pox, which is perfect as that ends the mission run anyway. Yea he knows what I did and I told him “So you know how it feels”.

Thankfully Darktide doesn’t have that much of a problem compared to other games.

Next time though I’ll just leave. Not nice to contribute towards the problem.
