Will Darktide still have players once Space Marine 2 comes out

Fatshark logic in a nutshell

Space marine 2 is not a coop 4 players if I am right.

And not every player here play for the warhammer universe. I liked the universe when I was young, but actually I don’t care of the universe itself.

Definitely fits the bill.

woaaoow this will thoroughly kill Darktide
a co-op mode thats gonna be fun for a night with the boys and never come back to

That’s both subjective and speculative ol’ boy. It means next to nothing until we know what the game will actually be like to play.

It’s fully coop but with 3 people instead of 4. See above:

Campaign… not missions.
I never made in coop a game with a campaign…
less replay interest

Didn’t they also say it’ll have a PvE mode ?

There’s both a coop version of the whole singleplayer campaign and a different, standalone PvE Operations mode, which is we will likely see further expansion later in the game’s lifecycle. That’s where most replayability will be found. Then there’s the PvP mode, which seems like it’ll be pretty popular.

that’s definitely what I’m saying

(for legal reasons I’ve been advised to clarify that indefinite delays will also, in fact, make me ditch the game)

I enjoyed the first Space Marine enough years ago, but I am not particularly interested in a sequel.

I played Space Marine during the years when Gears of War was still a popular franchise, so everything blended together well. The multiplayer was also enjoyable, but I am much more interested in Darktide than Space Marine 2 because, as you know, I am not a huge Warhammer fan, more of a casual one, and I prefer the human aspect to roleplaying a walking tank of flesh.

Also, I am one of the few Dragon Age fans who are extremely excited for Dragon Age: The Veilguard, so maybe it is just me being weird? xD

Serious cope right here

They also have a dedicated mode outside of the campaign with just missions. Which is exactly what Darktide is. Might wanna read a bit more carefully. They have 3 coop modes: Campaign, Missions and PvP

Nah the cope is people hoping a game that plays totaly diffrent gonna ā€œā€ā€œkillā€ā€œā€ another game.

The game probably fine and fun for a playtrough and maybe som co-op with the boys but not the same gameplay at all.

But hey maybe I’m wrong and this game will save gaming and kill off Darktide, helldivers, warframe and why not wow while it’s going
Maybe every genere of games will just shrivel up and die in the light of nice graphics and generic gameplay

At the very least it will still have 2 lol. I dont think that is enough to keep it going but i play it with my wife often. Its not a perfect game but its fun and we have a good time.

People are hyping up SM2 because it delivers on all fronts that Darktide failed to or broke their promises:

  • An actual story
  • Weapon customization
  • Actual character customization with colors and armor parts
  • 6 distinct classes with trees
  • and possibly much more

Not to mention the visual being on par or better, as well as a seemingly much much higher enemy density (which is something FS sadly nerfed since the console release)

We want FS to know that their minimal effort behaviour isn’t going to fly when SM2 comes around. All it needs to do is deliver somewhat on the melee experience. A lot of people, myself included, prefere the first person style of Darktide and the deep melee mechanics, but I’m ready to jump ship if SM2 delivers.

FS as a company should simply be ashamed of the potential they squandered with this.

Honestly, what happens to Darktide and it’s playerbase is dependent on FatShark not other games.

First and foremost, the Itemization change NEEDS to give players what they’ve telling been FatShark they want since forever. If that fails, I think it’s done.

But, what’s probably as important is what FatShark does after that. If they keep up this pace of new content I think it’ll die out soon anyway. 6 months and barely anything? So, content twice a year and we’re maybe looking at two maps and a couple weapon-variations and that’s it, in a year? Nuh-uh. FatShark NEED step up the pace.

This whole argument of ā€œit’s a different gameā€ that people keep using isn’t really that great of a dismissal. Yeah obviously not any two games will be literally the same. That’s why they’re two different games. It’s all about how closely adjacent they are and that’s where the comparisons are worth considering. Of course this wont play the same as DT, it’s not trying to. But will there be a considerable overlap in the player bases? Of course there will be. It’s perfectly logical to follow that up with ā€œwhich one will be better received/played more by more people?ā€. So far, in my estimation, SM2 is going to hit closer to its self-designated mark than DT did on release or have even up to this point. That’s a thought worth considering, seeing as both games will be coop horde games set in the same universe. Of course SM2 wont kill DT but it’s not like anyone is seriously making that case, is it?

Wait isn’t that just weapon differences and PvP only ?

It’s weapons and some version of a skill tree with different abilities for each class. Plus the various coop/PvE missions mentioned.
