Seeing the player base shrinking and seeing as Fatshark is remaining tone def towards their player base, do you think Darktide will have any players left once Space Marine 2 comes out?
It will, but I highly doubt itâs going to have nearly as high of a playercount as it does even now. I never followed news on Space Marine 2 and honestly I donât care because every friggin 40k game makes you play as spess mehrehns (thatâs what makes Darktide special to me).
I might give Boltgun a try, though. Who knows.
I mean, these are quite different games, so Darktide will have some people left.
But real question is, will Space Marine have any people left when Space Marine 2 comes outđ¤
I donât think SM2 will deliver anything for the die-hard core of Tide fanatics that hover around 3-4k people regardless - weâll likely see player numbers briefly crater depending on the reception of SM2 and whether it lives up to the trailers, but theyâll probably bounce back to the same mediocre baseline eventually.
If itâs fun and engaging and the different classes are fun to level
Iâm gone for a while
And if the free updates for space marine 2 are good Iâll probably not return.
I donât think the immediate effect on Darktide numbers will be so dramatic that it becomes a ghost town as soon as it drops, but I wouldnât be surprised to see some folk pick one over the other. Really it depends on how good Space Marine 2âs co-op and multiplayer wind up being.
Best case scenario is that Space Marine 2 winds up being excellent enough that it not only is well worth getting stuck in, but FatShark feels enough of a pinch that theyâre forced to step up their game to remain competitive via more frequent updates and proper communication.
Theyâve felt so much of a pinch they slowed right down and delayed itemisation for several months
Darktide will never die, just like vermintide 2 never died. Even if there is not going to be a single update after the next one, there will always be someone playing. Thereâs definitely going to be a dip in numbers after SM2 comes out but itâll stabilize overtime.
Darktide is just too good of a game without any real competition. As of me writing this comment there is not even a single game or game in the making that is like darktide/vermintide.
You could call it copium on my part given how many people were saying the same things about Helldivers, but hope springs eternal.
Iâve given Boltgun a try and itâs not amazing but itâs definitely a fun little take on a DOOM-esque Space Marine game.
Iâm excited for Space Marine 2 but I wonât abandon Darktide for it, no siree Bob.
The best aspect of Boltgun was weaponising the âMy armour is contemptâ phrase by naming the armour pickups Contempt.
So SM2 is the new Darktide killer ?
Like HD2, PD3, and some other Iâve forgotten
The true Darktide killer is Darktide all along.
Meh Vt2 was also said to be the Vt2 killer.
It will probably knock down the player count a fair bit for the first week or so, but it likely wont effect it long term. It could even be good for Fatshark, by relieving a little bit of pressure off them a bit and giving the players a little break so Fatshark can cook something up while a lot of us are gone. Then when we do play Darktide again, maybe a nice update or two will be waiting.
Maybe killed isnât the word for it, but âsignificantly less successful than what it couldâve beenâ is more of a mouthful and isnât as catchy.
Itâs definitely one of the only games mentioned on the long list of âwill X kill darktideâ games I will actually check out.
As for whose killing the game, well thatâs easy. Months of hype that transform into âits been delayedâ carefully worded to never incorporate any other words than âdisappointmentâ and âdarktideâ. Never sorry, just âyeah we should do betterâ. Gets tiring to hear after a while, it was such a nice change of pace to have that one singular winning update (class overhaul) and the buzz around the game go positive for once. Figures that was just a flash in the pan.
Last week why ?
Also had never heard the term brownknight, will have to check that out
I think itâs a portmanteau of âbrown noserâ and âwhite knightâ
âbrownknightâ
The one good thing to come out this topic! Fantastic. Gonna start calling my friends brownknights now.
