Why is the game not being worked on?

Having played around 1300 hours on Steam, I’m increasingly asking myself: what is even going on at the studio? For clarity, I’ll break down my grievances into several key aspects: maps, heroes, gameplay, and cosmetics.

Maps. Why aren’t you adding new maps or modes (like FoW)? But the problem isn’t just that. Why not bring ALL the missions from the first game over? Let our useless wizard Olesya Pimenova create another illusion — and that’s it. I understand it would require rebalancing for the second game’s mechanics, but are you really too lazy to spend time on that?

Heroes. As someone who has read some books and is familiar with Warhammer Fantasy lore, I’m genuinely irritated by the Necromancer class. It’s an incredibly childish class with terrible in-game lore, which is why I’ve only played it maybe 2–3 times (while my other heroes are around level 300+). It’s a pointless class whose presence in the game is unjustified. I genuinely regret that Saltzpyre didn’t manage to finish off Sienna in Vermintide’s lore. Perhaps the Necromancer is interesting gameplay-wise, but its presence turns the story into a childish game where motivation boils down to “let’s kill someone to make up.” The main Vermintide story and the Drachenfels DLC are decent — there’s a clear and important task for the Empire. But the “A Parting of the Waves” map is just blatantly stupid in terms of lore (again, because of the Necromancer).

Gameplay. Moving on to what I consider a more objective part — gameplay.

  • Why doesn’t completing Cataclysm give, for example, double the chests (or their equivalent)? This would motivate our ever-whining community (which whines about every grimoire picked up or Sienna’s accidental fireball) to collect books on the highest difficulty.

  • Right now, I only play Cataclysm with the Twitch mod. Why does activating it require connecting to a random stream? Why can’t you just play with random events without connecting?

  • Why does the Twitch mod have a Minotaur event but no Beastmen patrol event?

  • Why can’t you independently enable any weekly modifiers (without extra rewards, like in the normal mode)? For example, I really liked the Tzeentch event in the Twitch mod, and it would be great to be able to enable any modifier for an extra challenge.

  • Why isn’t there flexible mission configuration? A good solution would be a custom difficulty system: settings for enemy resistance and health, special spawn frequency, the ability to disable the annoying Minotaur (subjectively), adjustment of enemy numbers in hordes and patrols, and proper mod support. There’s a sea of similar gameplay ideas, but for some reason, you’re either afraid to implement them or simply don’t care.

Cosmetics. And finally, the most subjective part — skins. Personally, I consider almost all glowing and donation skins tasteless and ugly; they break the game’s atmosphere. “Runeforged” glowing weapons for Bardin can still be understood, but Kruber? Saltzpyre? Glowing skins are the peak of laziness: you just change the glow color. You can’t even be bothered to come up with unique descriptions for event items. Why not make unique weapon models that people would want to get for their lore and design?

The donation skins are also puzzling. There are some very high-quality and thematic ones. For me, the gold standard is the skins for buying the first game (they could conditionally be considered donation skins). From the store, I really like, for example, Kerillian’s Lion’s of Chrace skin and “Naieth the Prophetess.” But tell me — why? WHY is “Naieth the Prophetess” NOT AVAILABLE for Sister of the Thorn? Maybe there’s a lore explanation for this (I’m not a big expert on Wood Elves), but then how do you justify the “Count Boris Todbringer” skin on Bounty Hunter? That’s a completely inappropriate skin. Who is the genius who came up with such ugly sets as “Solstice Warden’s Garb,” “Reikland Rover,” “Gambler’s Glamour,” “Count Boris Todbringer,” or “Isabella von Carstein” for Pyromancer?

At the same time, the game has excellent, detailed skins: “Champion of Ubersreik,” “Wulfhart’s Array,” “Armour of the Blazing Sun” (except the helmet, perhaps, but that’s my opinion), “Varagvalg,” “Wizard’s Motley,” and others. Why can’t you make new work in the same philosophy? Why, instead of unique and atmospheric models, do you release childish nonsense for some unclear audience? If I want total absurdity, I’ll install a mod for Total War: Warhammer — it has proper mod support, and I won’t have to pay for your garbage.

I understand that the words of one player mean nothing to you and your community managers. But I just wanted to speak up because this is still one of the few quality games in its genre in the Warhammer universe, and it saddens me to see what you’re doing with it. My opinion is largely subjective, but I hope many veteran players share it.

Personal opinion here but I am surprised we have gotten as much post launch support for VT2 for as long as we have for a game that’s almost 10 years old (god I feel old). I feel like I have seen more new maps for Vt2 than Darktide :stuck_out_tongue:

For the necromancer I like the idea of making pacts with lesser evil people to confront a greater evil. It’s out of necessity. Need all the help you can get in the end times. Enemy of my enemy if my friend and all that. As well as just the stuff around whether it’s the sister or not in some way shape or form.

Cataclysm shouldn’t give more rewards than it already does like the frames. The hardest difficulty should be for the sweats with bragging rights. You don’t want casuals going to CATA farming red because it has a better chance at giving them what they want. I think your ultra hard game difficulty should be for people who enjoy that difficulty in and of itself and not for some in game reward otherwise you have cata quick plays filled with people who probably shouldn’t be there.

Not sure what separates a veteran from a non-veteran but^ if it helps.

Where you been? They added four maps just last year, the new trilogy that ends with Well of Dreams, and the Return to the Reik. All free. Not to mention Chaos Wastes and its many updates.

This thread start from some wrong information, as we know that there is still some content scheduled for Vt2.

And Vt2 did get some substantial update this year:

  • Verminous dream Chapter 2
  • Verminous dream Chapter 3
  • Feast of Grimnir
  • Return to the Reik

With Versus also getting a modified map too (Grudge served cold).

And we do also know that a new weapon dlc is planned for this year (which was meant to release in2025 but was pushed back to 2026)

To avoid people rushing into Cata for loot. Cata and Champion have the same rewards to keep Cata from being a purely elective difficulty that player go into to play harder content.

Cause that’ll need a dev to make a new model, and fix possible animations problems that could come from it, which changing colour and hue…can be done quite easily.

And they said the maps require not porting, but reconstruction.

IMO everything FS does for VT2 is lagniappe. Unless the ROI, even after all the years, still fully justifies the work. If that’s the case: Yay!

Learned a new work

“a small gift given to a customer by a merchant at the time of a purchase”

They do sell cosmetics (which need players to return to see/buy; and there is also that weapon dlc they’re planning for this year

Memes aside, I have had more than my fair share or rants and frustrations about the pace of FS development but I’m going to have to say that this past 6 months has been pretty speedy (compared to their previous languishing pace).

Verminous Dreams was pretty good overall, I enjoyed the Feast of Grimnir and the last map Return to the Reik is pretty sweet (even if you take into account I get my ass kicked defending the beach 70% of the time XD)

My personal take on VT2 is this; FS have carved themselves a niche and unique way of representing the GW Fantasy IP and it sometimes feels like they’ve got this fabulous jewel in their hand and just don’t know what to do with it. It is, of course, still a business - with a business model and financial demands but, still feels like something set apart from many many other games. Not many do anything like VT2 as the spiritual successor to L4D2.

I dislike Necromancer purely as I think Victor would have shot her dead by now, the reaction of the others notwithstanding. Gameplay for her I’m meh, and actually when I’m play WPoS and I can’t see sh*t because of the flames I’d happily cave her skull in with a hammer and righteous judgement ….but this is true of BW too. I could see how it’d advance the story further through the end times and sets the scene for Vampire Counts to Ally with the Empire out of necessity but still…. meh. Vic should have caved her head in while she sleeps. I’m not over it.

Cata is paywalled. Giving more rewards for Cata is pseudo-PTW and would be a bad move™ .

And historically, Balance patches/weapon DLC make me nervous as they’re almost required to be slightly too good to increase sales.

Apparently he did try to kill her. If you play Parting of the Waves with all characters except Sienna, there’s voice lines that trigger where they get in a HUGE fight about it. Like everyone was yelling at each other for several minutes, most intense voice lines I’ve heard from them for sure.

It gets worse. Saltzpyre, who more than anyone knows a necromancer when he sees one, would have put Sienna out of our collective misery then and there but for the others. Knowing that Kerillian would never stand for it, he clobbered her first - making a lie of one of my recent assertions, I suppose - then squared off against Bardin. Would have been the end of the Ubersreik Five then and there but for one miscalculation on Salty’s part. Given how a necromancer did for Kruber’s old regiment back in the day, he assumed Markus would be right behind him. And he was, in a manner of speaking. With a rock.

Turns out it takes more than labels and superstition to shake Kruber’s friendship once it’s earned. Good for him.

Honestly while it can work lorewise, it did hurt the narrative that Sienna has had since Vt1 (as in showing that she wasn’t the criminal that Salt thought she was)

im a simple FS customer i see “first time” meme i like

Necromancer is a pretty good class and lorewise? You forgot that this is endtimes right? Endtimes threw all lore overboard lol. And also, i guess in times where the very existence of the empire is in danger, even victor would understand that either you try to fight side on side with the necro, or your beloved empire will be ashes. The gameplay of the necro is imo also very satisfying.

Maps - we have many and i guess there there are many more to come

Skins - yeah most are lazy

New weapons - i am afraid of, fatshark will need another year to rebalance them after they have been released

Twitch & Deeds and modifiers from the weaves - should be modifiers which you only have active via ticking a box. Or, at least the deeds should be craftable

The only thing I can agree on is cataclysm and the skins. I agree that cata should be more rewards, however most people playing it already have BiS gear. For skins, yeah classes like zealot have pretty dumb skins, and the dlc classes don’t have many options.

I’m a bit baffled that this thread is lacking even the slightest thought about Fatshark beeing a company with employees that need to make a living…

Adding or changing a dlc that has a new higher difficulty from the base game and gives you extra rewards is p2w so nty OP.
