I know FS doesn’t care for my opinion just like they don’t care for any feedback from their long time customers but I’ll write it down for closure.
First of all why I played up until now are the great gun- and swordplay and the dense w40k atmosphere. And I think casuals who are happy to invest 50-60 hrs into the game will have a great time thus my steam review will stay positive.
However as I invested a lot more time - 400ish hours - and would theoretically be willing to play more despite my friends having quit a long time ago. Yet it just isn’t fun anymore for me mainly due to following reasons:
Crafting:
I just had one too many of the far to rare high quality 375+ weapons bricked with perks/blessings I didn’t want. Seriously gear “progression” is basically the only progress you have in the end - and when the work of a week results in an item you know you’ll never use due to the bloody lock mechanic. Seriously - basically everyone wants the locks removed, yet Fatshark doesn’t care.
Difficulty:
For me there is just no difficulty level that is really fun anymore. I liked malice but I’m to good by now to still enjoy it. While damnation offers a nice challenge but makes many weapons I liked on malice unfun to use - eg Kantreal MG Ia or Mk II Helbore. So the difficulty setting that would be fun to me would be damnation numbers plus damnation damage (so no high int malice doesn’t fulfill this niche) but malice health pools. I know many don’t care for this so this would be something for a modded realm? But even if this wouldn’t be possible the ability to freely choose modifiers could already help…
Especially as scarce Ressource drops on anything below damnation seriously worsen problem number 1.
Absence of Solomode:
As I said atmosphere and weapon handling are the main reasons I played - weapon handling for me gets worse with higher difficulties and atmosphere is hampered by MP only. If I was able to include my spare characters as bots I could explore the beautiful maps at my pace, enjoy dialogue between the personalities I chose, gladly witness the synergies in skills I aimed for and admire the cosmetics I worked for…
But despite Solo mode having been promised for December now they don’t even talk about it anymore.
I’ll propably hop along if ever my friends play it again but I don’t see this to happen soon…
While I absolutely understand your opinion they marketed it with a solo mode, they promised to add a solo directly after launch and their last game before DT had a Solo mode - so in my opinion it absolutely belongs here.
And there are obviously tons of fun video games besides dark tide but no FPS that capture the grim dark atmosphere of 40k as brilliantly as DT.
Edit:
After thinking about it: A Solo mode is actually genre standard for four player coop games.
I still play. But I stopped grinding. Once got the ideal weapons setups per class. Not motivated to 100% collect every weapon optimised. Took months to get 2–3 ideal weapons per class. If I did decide to get whole weapon collection I estimate it would be 2 years.
Just playing the game casually now. No more crafting.
The last ‘content update’ broke me tbh.
With everything being as screwed up as it is, the fact they were making the cash shop rotate cosmetics again basically meant that they thought everything was fine.
In the same update that they bricked the game for anyone running an AMD card.
I’ve gotten three classes to 30, and levelling psyker further just…didn’t hold any appeal with how broken weapon acquisition and ‘crafting’ is.
Failshark is not the same company that released VT2.
The Failshark we see now does not care about their customer base in any way. Every action and decision they make is based off a profit margin. There is no reality in which Tencent approves any type of update that removes locks or gives the player base any control over their advancement. Failshark cannot “fix” their game because their game is designed from the bottom up to be toxic. Fixing it would mean removing almost every system they have in place and replacing them. This will never ever happen.
I actually agree with this a lot. If the spawns density and risk to my healthpool were damnation level i’d play against malice enemy healthbars for most enemies except monstrosities. Well i dunno, i’d need to maybe try it out again for sure, but that sounds fun.
Whatever secret illuminati lizard wearing human skin* is running the business should probably take note that its having the opposite of the intended effect.
A year after Liberation Day, courtesy of the red-dust bacteria, the humanoid, lizard-like aliens develop a resistance to the micro-organism and try to regain control of the Earth–only now, some humans are knowingly working with them.
They dont exist. Everyone knows they got annihilated in early 80s, by the man, who will become Emperor of Mankind in early 30000s.
Reason why i stopped playing this, is because i grew sick of having 120 fps on mourning star, and 49 fps in hab dreyko, without any enemy on my screen, with the same graphic settings. Seems to me like the onlyone who can otpimise fatshark game is Master of Mankind.
i have always admired IdSoftware, their games were always designed with players in mind. never money.
they knew that player happines (good game content, good perf, easy to install, no locksl) will bring game to the masses.
Games never had any invasive DRM either. Usually just simple license file with a key.
Even doom 2016 which was released via steam had crack folder in it, with cracked exe without invaside DRM protection that their parent company forced them to do.
Why FS cannot be the same? crack the locks, give us cracked .exe (and patch server with api to accept brake the locks calls…)
Your thread has been added. May your sacrifice to the corpulent shark gods finally break the shackles keeping many of us from once again joining the warband.
BTW - changing only one of those things would get me propably back into the game.
And reading the steam forums they seem to work at least on an offline solo mode - maybe in regard to an XBox-Release where the ability to play offline may be more important? I guess I’ll see - really big hopes for Rouge Trader to ease my 40k itch ^^
*edit:
Obviously that was a false conclusion - disapointed again. Should be used to that by now…
