trashhammer feels terrible when it comes to flak armor…etc.
Killing one trash mob is not much of an achievement with that pathetic damage cleave. Nothing should feel as bad as trashhammer, I wouldn’t wish it on anyone beside the flamer/trashhammer clowns who chose to use it.
So they could lop it off and make it a blessing. Like blocking bullets with the force sword, its so weak its disgusting it needs both blessings for damage but this is a thing. +damage on stagger is the only thing shield can offer in this game, at least there’s only 4 total.
The latrine shovel seems to do decently. The overhead will oneshot a shooter for sure, the cleaving heavy will do it with aura +10% and some stagger before it(including the previous attack).
The latrine shovel has almost as fast a sequence of moves as a knife (push attack → light 1 → light 2) and if you have Skullcrusher you throw out some good free damage stacks to horde on opening/loop to clear even faster. Skullcrusher is even a poor man’s thrust with no charging commitment on elites since you usually lead in with a fist. Shovel is extremely underrated, embrace poop scoop.
The only good melee weapon on the biggest strongest meleeman in 40k human lore is swinging pillows unless he brings a BullyButcher and his best gear is his guns lmao. The power maul is such a dissapointing weapon.
It really should change, there’s a lot more impetus on his melee but not many options for not bashing the same horde around for 3 minutes until the animations stop twitching.
Ogryn is a melee class.
Ogryn’s machineguns (and shotguns) are overperforming right now.
Maybe they should get a slight nerf, and some of the ogryn melees should get a slight buff in turn.
It would define the role of the ogryn more clearly, result in better balance and better feeling when playing ogryn on the frontline.
Well I was saying Rippergun was perfectly fine from the gate and they just needed to fix the low reserves on Mk 5. Then we arrived at today. I wouldn’t agree that Stubbers are that good, only Gorgonum is super strong. But that’s primarily because it hits things far away and staggers very hard, like none of the other Stubbers can shoot dogs off teammates, and it quickly floors a Reaper like a Kickback shot only with 12 and a bit times more ammo total.
Yeah… I have switched to the power maul since I wrote this. I still love the shield, but the DPS is just too bad. If we are farming monstrosities I bring it to tank the demon hosts (which is broken, this win-button should be nerfed into the ground).
Naaah man.
Ogryn is the last class that should get nerfed.
Buffing melee would be a good thing though.
I wouldn’t say his ranged weapons are in any way stronger than the ones from the other classes and he doesn’t have any way to deal with elites that are quite far away (if you don’t have box) as pretty much every weapon is more suited for close to mid range.
Ranged wise I think he is in an okay place atm compared to the others but it still feels wrong to be the biggest guy dealing the least amount of melee damage.
Clubs are over-specialized into single target heavy attacks. The cleave damage of clubs, paul, and shovel are way too low and the drop off is pretty absurd. I personally don’t have a problem with the 3 target damage cap, nurgle boys are tough, but somebody should be getting hurt besides the first dude hit when a man-sized hunk of metal comes plowing through a crowd like a truck.
Cleavers are pretty good without slaughterer except for the Krourk mk IV. That one’s attack patterns are way too single target focused to have a damage table meant for horde clearing.
Ogryn’s strong af guns are kind of a mercy, really, lol.
I think it is pretty clear what i meant. No need to fight windmills.
Ogryn machinegun and shotgun are definitely not „normally good“.
When an ogryn whips them out to shoot at a horde, there is no melee combat for anyone to engage in.
The enemies just fall over and die (unless they are crushers).
A melee focused class should probably not run through the entire mission with their gun in hand, killing everything with bullets.
A melee focused class should probably not just swap to ranged and quickly delete a horde with a storm of bullets.
My issue with these guns is not how they perform against specials or elites, but how they delete hordes and effectively turn the ogryn into a ranged focused class.
I did not suggest a „nerf to the ogryn“. I suggested a redistribution of power, achieved by a nerf to specific ranged weapons and a buff to most of the ogryn melee weapons.
The class would perform better at what it is supposed to do and it would be a straight buff for everyone who does not play ogryn as a ranged class.
I do not think that the ogryn is overperforming overall. I think that the ogryn overall works pretty well, but could use a few buffs.
But two of the ogryn’s ranged weapon types are overperforming against hordes to such a degree, that they can make the ogryn more effective as a ranged class, than as a melee class. This causes many ogryn players to basically run and gun through the entire mission, playing the backline and leaving others to deal with the frontline (which is the ogryn‘s place to be).
Ogryn’s shotguns and machineguns delete hordes almost like pre nerf zealot flamer.

Either way, ogryns should probably receive a melee buff before getting some of the ranged weapons nerfed anyway.
I am unsure if I’d call the Ogryn a tank, his larger health pool makes it so that if he does do a misstake it is not as punishing as for other classes but even with his built in damage reduction you are still using dodge, push, staggering or knocking down foes, sliding or charging into a shooter group to tie them up in melee combat to avoid damage, same as everyone else.
Crowd control is great to have, if you can combine it with damage which the other classes gets to do. But just relying on crowd control is flawed, mainly because knocking down an enemy is worse then just killing it. Just having one weapon that is good at clearing a horde should not exclude any possibilty to increase the damage of his other melee weapons.
As long as the game has a split focus on both melee and shooting saying that one class should not have a decent ranged weapon because that class is deemed a melee class is something that I can not agree with. There is a great choice of good ranged weapon for Ogryn, but they always come with some form of drawback.
I keep trying Mk 6 but I just find its way too slow and the H2 unavoidable out of most loops (which is terrible and still stuck in pre beta animation speed, which also affects basher). H1 isn’t as bad.
Mk4 can at least push → H2 and the lights are faster, the AOE is less but the horde situation of high difficulty is you cleaving into a meat wall so just having hitmass in your swing is the key. It also has those stabs and H1 to not be nearly as miserable at elite killing. Like if we could actually headshot with it I would almost call it good.
