Why are these cosmetic challenges not only impossible, but also discourage the core fundamentals of this game?

Yeah but most of them require you finishing the mission so that isn’t valid for all of them, especially the harder ones.

Why do you feel the need to show off skill level? That seems like a rather insecure behavior. I’m fine with some things being like that, but right now literally ALL the cosmetics are locked behind these egregious challenges. And I dont think they’re a good representation of skill either as they require you going out of your way to get them - you likely didnt get them through just playing like normal, you had to alter your method of play (leaving and rejoining at the end, asking team not to hit boss, etc).

Honestly, I think these penances should either be things that teach players good 'tech’s to use (like the Ogryn pants one to counter charge a plage ogryn, cause it teaches you how to cancel a very dangerous attack) or things you work up too. Like, instead of ‘20 people off ledges in 2 seconds’ on psykinetic or ‘head burst a leaping plague hound’ it could be ‘kill 50 enemies by flinging them into the abyss’ not a ‘do it in a time frame’ but a ‘work upto it over time’ type deal, same with the hounds and instead (especially with how hounds movement is completely gmod levels of jank) could be something like ‘save team mates from hounds x times with brain burst’

Its not insecurity its getting a tangible reward for having achieved a task. Your attempt at trying to undermine my stance is akin to saying why get paid for doing work?

Its a reward that shows you did X task, participation trophies are pointless and hold no intrinsic value as there is no rarity or limitation to whom can posses it.

For Psyker i have achieved all bar the Monstronum ones so far with normal gameplay. For Ogryn i have achieved all of them naturally even the eye ball one (which i didn’t know about) because we were suck behind a bunch of ragers and i knew there is a timer before the eye resets so i yeeted a grenade to nail it. We still died but i was rewarded for my attempt at getting the objective done so we could hold our corner camp position mid horde.

Veteran seems perfectly possible to do all challenges normal through play if you play well bar the 1005 accuracy no ammo finish mission.

Gotta say, after having a couple of quickplay missions held up for ages because someone wanted to hang around in an area to spawn more enemies so they could try and complete a penance, that I’d definitely prefer them to be things that incentivised working as a team.

The 100% accuracy on Veteran is especially stupid.

  1. You need to get 100% accuracy and have no ammo left

This creates problem where on Diff 4+ you rely on Vet to sniper range elites/specials but he will hesitate to not lose 100% accuracy. It’s against co-op experience.

  1. The easiest way to do it is to wait for boss. Dumb all ammo into boss with 100% accuracy and then never shoot again till end of mission. On Diff 4-5…

This againt creates toxic co-op experience where you Vet will now refuse to snipe anything, won’t have ammo to do it, creating extra work on rest of the team, potentially throwing a game becasue he doesn’t want to miss a shot. Again, this is against a co-op spirit of game.

  1. This kind of “challenges” are sourece of exploits. Like just before map ends on Diff 4-5 dump all your magazine somewhere. Leave ammo for one shot only. Disconnect from game. Your friends wait for you to reconnect. Reconnect, shoot that 1 ammo into any mob. Since disconnect resets your “stats” you have no 100% accuracy and 0 ammo left.

This is obviously also not good to rely on disconnect exploits to do them.

Overall it’s ironic how “scoreboard in V2 is against our philisophy of cooperation” but then they give you challanges like “without friends you won’t do it” or “work against your team, risk game for seflish challange to get skin”.

My favorite is the one where you have to run in and overcharge as psyker, effectively killing yourself to complete a penance. Trolling at its finest!

The challenges are direct opposite of cooperative gameplay, which is strongly encouraged by the game.

Most of the guides and tips for these most busted Penance challenges I have personally seen have not been about actually doing the challenge, but how to cheese it by disconnecting.

This massively highlights how fundamentally bad the challenge design is. If majority of players are actively looking to cheese them instead of playing them the problem is solely with Fatshark’s design decisions, and thus they should be revisited and readjusted accordingly.

I still want to see a video of the developers completing the challenges if they refuse to adjust them.

I understood perfectly. You are correct that 90% may still be too high. Basing that on comp player stats in pvp games is ridiculous.

Regardless, any high accuracy based achievement is going to encourage people to do the bare minimum of shooting and mostly melee, which is silly.

I made a very clear comparison that involves more than just pvp stats, wether you’re able to grasp it or not is none of my problem

They are gimmicky as hell and the only thing it promotes you throwing a mission straight into the garbage for trying it.

Just wiped because some rando was trying to do their penance. They apologized twice, once at the very beginning before we even had an encounter, and then later again because they knew they were going to be trash for the team. Indeed, they were. When things got spicy, they did nothing that helped. No one had fun and they didn’t get their penance. Why is this baked into the game!?

It doesn’t even work properly anyway

Self explosion doesn’t do enough damage to kill most elites even on malice, that means you need all three of them to be damaged already

Cliffhanger doesn’t register, we just grouped with multiple psykers to try to cheese it, i pushed ~30 poxwalkers off the ledge (into the void, no ground below), my counter is still stuck at 7

And in any case when the overwhelming majority of your playerbase has to resort to dirty cheese to try and unlock your challenge (when it works), it’s a design failure altogether, not an achievement medal

Just jumping in to say some of the penances are trash and in desperate need of a rework. VT2 challenges could be a pain but i don’t remember them derailing so many games. I honestly feel like they came up with some of these over the course of an hour or two without playtesting anything.

It’s a challenge, it’s supposed to be challenging and not easily obtainable.
My opinion is that most of the challenges are too easy & the rewards are very unremarkable. If all the challenges are in the beta that is.

Solo a Beast of Nurgle is easy, it’s slow & will never catch up to you. All you need is a full team that protects you from Hordes & Specials. Challenges should not just be progression for playing the game. It should be doing things outside the normal gameplay.

Challenges should be harder, more in line with Vermintide Legendary & Cataclysm challenges. Also reward more unique cosmetics, not just different plain colours.

I agree with all the above. These challenges force the player to counterplay their own team thus promoting toxic gameplay. Being totally honest I will brute force the Zealot penance until I get it, I undertsand it screws over the team but: A - Its a cosmetic of which ftshark have not yet given me the digital deluxe version cosmetics OR provided other in game cosmetics to not be so bothered about this particular one nad B - They have added this to the game and made so many of these challenges for every class counteractive to teamplay so they must want this style of play in their game.

Now I know the latter could be considered malicious compliance but if thats the only way to get these stupid and arbitrary challenges to add “flavour”. Until Fatshark decide to make them less counteractive I will continue to let my team die and derail harder games just to get my cosmetic as im sure many others will

I love our CMs and Hedge has done a bang-up job for the most part, but this response seems… less than ideal. Great news that some of them are changing and I appreciate getting a response at all, but “Then don’t pug them, make some frienz and coordinate” is patronizing and unhelpful. It leaves me with the impression that forcing you to do these challenges as part of a coordinated group was actually intentional.

Solo players or people who don’t have a full group shouldn’t be punished like this.
